Redirect 301 & Wild Cards

Afternoon All!
Question, I am having trouble getting my head around redirects and I am wondering if someone could help me on this....
We recently changed our website and although were using the same database, were using a different URL structure. So for example...
Old URL siteurl.com/products/product/moredetails/merlin.id1553.html
New URL siteurl.com//vertigo/dl/product.php?p=1553As you can see the product has the same ID number, just in a different directory. What I'd like to happen is....
If you go too siteurl.com////.idXXXX.html then you are 301'd too siteurl.com//vertigo/do/product.php?p=XXXX
Obviously XXXX is the ID number of the product in our database.
Any thoughts? I need help!
Thanks in advance.

Excellent! It matches up nicely with the example you provided, and always good to have someone on hand to make sure everything works as intended. Glad you found a good one.

Ryan,
You were spot on, hired a chap to do just that. If anyone in the future is interested in the solution it was just this...
RedirectMatch 301 ^(.)/(.)/(.)/(.).id([\d]+).html$ myurl.com/vertigo/dl/product.php?p=$5

Hi Richard. This is a fairly complicated redirection scheme you hope to achieve. I'd hire out for a someone skilled in Regex to pull it off smoothly.

301 redirect not working
Hi there! I have recently moved a domain that has been indexed by google and setup redirects so that it forwards to the new domain. It seems like the only redirect that actually is working is the canonical and main domain but every other page and or page nested within a folder are not working. Here is an example of some of the redirects. Am I doing this wrong? It seems to be going to the new domain but can't find the actual pages.... RewriteEngine On

domain.com/pl/ etc. Soon I plan redesign, new CMS and I plan to register 9 new ccTLDs. My question is: Can I 301 redirect domain.com/ru/ to domain.ru without having some bad effect on domain.com? I mean, the main domain, com is not going to be affected by permanent redirect of one url to completly new domain right?0 -
302 to 301 redirect confirmation
Hi guys, Fairly sure of the answer from what I've read so far, but I just wanted to doublecheck I have it right. Page A gets a significant amount of referring, followed traffic, and also ranks in Google. Page A uses a 302 redirect to Page B (on a completely different domain), which means that 0% of Page A's link juice is being passed on to Page B. If I were to change the 302 redirect to a 301 redirect, then the link juice passed on to Page A from the followed, referring traffic will be (mostly) passed on to Page B. Is that correct? Cheers, Jez

What tools produce a complete list of all URLs for 301 redirects?
I am project managing the rebuild of a major corporate website and need to set up 301 redirects from the old pages to the new ones. The problem is that the old site sits on multiple CMS platforms so there is no way I can get a list of pages from the old CMS. Is there a good tool out there that will crawl through all the sites and produce a nice spreadsheet with all the URLs on it? Somebody mentioned Xenu but I have never used it. Any recommendations? Thanks -Adrian

301 redirect Issues
my clients site is www.greenbayharvest.co.uk When you enter that URL it redirects to www.greenbayharvest.co.uk/shop, dont ask why, thats the way they set it up and thats what im stuck with. So, how do i resolve the 301 issue here. we want all things to point to www.greenbayharvest.co.uk, in terms of SEO but does the fact that there is a redirect going to /shop make this an issue? we appear to have: www.greenbayharvest.co.uk/shop www.greenbayharvest.co.uk greenbayharvest.co.uk greenbayharvest.co.uk/shop all these URL's go to the same same page so what is the best way to correct this? thanks for any help on this Lee
