Will presentational HTML tags actually be having a negative SEO effect?
-
Hi All,
I have been using some scanning tools as usual and I keep getting notified about presentational HTML. I'm not involved in the web design but if this is actually having a negative effect then we need to get it changed.
Can anyone advise?
"pages of this website were found to use presentational HTML elements and/or attributes. It is widely regarded that use of presentational HTML like and
should be avoided."

Thanks again Robert,
I have been really trying to perfect our site so we can get the most from it. Judging by yours and others replies, it's as good as it's going to get and any more tinkering will be splitting hairs.
Thanks for the info, onto other things

Jamie,
Again I agree with Alick and I would say this regarding anything where there are suggestions to do or not to do: You have to take them in context and look at the overall picture. You can take any website that we have recently done a lot of SEO on and I will still find little things that could be changed.
An example is if you use a tool like Google Pagespeed Insights. There are going to be a lot of recommendations but once a site is within a reasonable range, you can get into total overkill. An example could be that while it is nice and helpful for sites to utilize a CDN, frankly, not every site needs to.
Hope that helps,
Robert

Hi Jamie,
No not at all, you can use such tags and attributes.
Thanks

International SEO - Hreflang tags and URL Structure
Hello, I wonder if any SEO internationalisation experts can help. We are a UK centric business with a .com domain which all our traffic currently goes to. We have been growing in the US and are therefore looking to internationalise our website by building out some US pages using the subfolder .com/us. Since the keywords we wish to target in the US are different to the keywords we are targeting elsewhere, when implementing hreflang tags is it possible to use a different URL for the US page? So let’s say we are targeting ‘estate car’ generally but want to target ’station wagon’ as the keyword for the equivalent US page, can the URLs be different? Example: General page: www.example.com/estate-car US: www.example.com/us/station-wagon Hreflang tags: Would that be the correct implementation? Any help or guidance would be much appreciated!

Cumulative effect
<a name="_GoBack"></a>I have a real estate client who creates individual property sites (mini-sites), each with their own URL (123MainStreet.com), each linking to 2 or 3 diverse pages on the main broker site (main site). There are a couple thousand on these pages at any one time, feeding into a large broker site. The SEO effect of these mini-sites is that there are many incoming links to the main site from various URLs, however, the mini-sites have little SEO relevance, given that there are few, if any inbound links to the mini-sites themselves, and the mini-sites only exist for the market life of a property. My question is: Does it make more SEO sense to create a series of pages (externalsite.com/123mainstreet) on a single site that already has good traction and relevance? The inbound links to the main site will have more relevance, but they will all be coming from the same domain (or subdomain). And although the links will all be coming from the same external site, the inbound links will be from a variety of pages on external site to a variety of pages on the main site. Any insight would be appreciated.

Multiple H1 tags on same page
Hi Mozers I have a doubt regarding H1 tags. I know H1 tags will not give some special SEO value. But is there any issue if we are using multiple H1 tags on a same page? For example on the seomoz.org blog home page I saw 16 H1 tags (seomoz.org/blog). Is that ok to use like that? Can I completely ignore all my worries about H1 tags?

New Forum: SEO considerations.
We're going to add a new forum to our website. We don't anticipate very large volumes of users. I read somewhere in The Art of SEO that forums should be 'built in bbPress'. I'm very much a programming novice so I'm still trying to get to grip with the basics of forums. I'd be grateful to know the main SEO considerations (however basic) that I should tell my web developer who is building the new forum.

Will changing page extensions from .html to .php require a redirect?
Hi. We are launching a new website and our .html page extensions will be replaced with a .php page extension. Example: www.theideapeople.com/web_design.html (current url) www.theideapeople.com/web_design.php (new url) Will this require any special treatment to maintain the page SEO ranking? Does it make a difference if you use a .html or .php? Thank you for your help and insight! Jay
