Hello everyone,
We have to filter traffic from spam website like
So we created custom filter with
Filter field: referral
While verification of filter there is error displaying i.e. This filter would not have changed your data. Either the filter configuration is incorrect, or the set of sampled data is too small.
Please help in resolving issue..

2 things you should test for yourself Alick, and these are simple tests.
#1 Setup an Analytics property and do not put the code on any site. You will still see referral traffic from darodar, social-buttons, simple-share-buttons, etc. Think about it one second, the code is not on a site or server, so how would blocking them in .htaccess work, when there is no server with an .htaccess file.
#2 Setup another view in your account, with the only difference being filters setup to block referrals from spam bots. Now these 2 are on the same ID and would have the same traffic. If referral was made into direct traffic, then the numbers would still be the same, but you'll find the number is reduced the same amount as the spam traffic.

Hi Richard,
No offence intended, Richard I have tested with my site and what I have replied above is absolutely true & If you still don't believe me I am sharing two articles one is from moz itself other is also from authoritative source.

What Alick proposes will not work. Social-buttons.com falls into the category of a ghost referral, meaning they are spamming Google Analytics and never actually go to your site. Also, creating a Filter in Analytics does exactly what it says, it creates a filter and keeps the session from counting. It is not somehow converted to direct traffic, it is completely removed.
The test if the filter is working is simply faulty. It looks like your regex is correct and it should work, just check back in a couple days to see if they are gone.

Hi Ravi,
By filtering It will just hide the problem as then the traffic from spambot will appear as direct traffic in your GA reports and you will no longer be able to measure the impact of the spambot on your website traffic.
*Do not exclude the referrer spam website from the referral traffic via ‘Referral exclusion list’ - this will not solve your problem.
If you have access your .htaccess file (or web config if you use IIS) and add the following code:
e.g
RewriteEngine On
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^https?://([^.]+.)*social-buttons.com\ [NC,OR]
RewriteRule .* – [F]
You can do for similarly for other website as well.
Hope this helps
Thanks

Search traffic hit after switching magazine to subdomain
Hi there, I'm fairly new at all of this and would appreciate any help with understanding why our website has taken a hit in traffic. We curate an online magazine, which was previously accessible through: forensicoutreach.com. It was receiving about 2,000+ unique visitors per day up until a week ago, when we changed a few things. However, the magazine doesn't reflect what our business does, so we created a product-focused web presence on forensicoutreach.com, and moved the magazine (which everyone loved) to library.forensicoutreach.com (DA 37, PA 1). We thought separating the properties was a good idea, but now I'm not so sure. Our traffic on library.forensicoutreach.com is 1,500 (so 500 less than usual!) and our main property has about 56 unique visits a day. It's pretty substantial. A few questions: 1. If we move the library to forensicoutreach.com/library, will that make any difference? 2. Where did we go wrong here and how can we fix it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Stripping Out Referral Spam
I'm working my way through Google Analytics adding filters to all Spam referrals. 1. Am I doing this correctly:- Filter > Custom > Exclude - Campaign Source > Filter Pattern - Website address 2. I understand I can also strip out referral spam from past data Can anyone tell me how to do this or direct me to a blog or article about this? 3. Who on earth are Semalt, and why do they keep changing their URL and bombarding our websites? Appreciate any help. Christina

Tracking Google places (7 pack listing) traffic in google analytics
Is there a way to see Google Places traffic (traffic from users clicking through the 7 pack listings) segmented in Google analytics ? Normally is it just lumped together with the organic traffic ? Can you see the search phrases used to find your site, or do they also show up under 'not provided' when from Google Places. Im aware i can see some limited data in the Google Places analytics, but these seem to be 2 days behind when ever i view them.

Big Traffic Drops in Bing
I have a client that has been struggling with their organic traffic the over the past several months. We figured they had been hit by Penguin and some of Google's other algo changes...But I just dug in a little deeper in Google Analytics, and their traffic is actually up year over year for Google organic, but they are down 75% + for both Bing and Yahoo organic. They drop seemed to occur around April, 2012, and they have rapidly lost Bing and Yahoo traffic ever since. Can anyone help explain why this might be happening? A Bing and Yahoo algo update? Or just fewer people using those search engines possibly? I'm not quite sure how to make up for all the lost traffic in Bing and Yahoo. Any suggestions are appreciated!

How to see traffic for specific keywords in GA
Hell guys, What i want to achieve is to generate a list of specific keywords showing traffic for a certain periode of time. I also want so be able to compare this time period with historical data. I want a list as shown in: Traffic sources -> sources -> search -> organic. This shows a list of keywords generating traffic out of the organic search results. When you use a filter you can only use one word so it seems. I just want to create that list but with the specific keywords i choose to display. I tried advanced reports and advanced segments but that doesn't really give me what i want. The idea behind this whole thing is that i want to give my client an overview of the traffic received on the words we are optimizing for. this traffic has to be compared to the previous month so they can see clearly if there were changes. Thx !

How Can I Record .zip Traffic in Google Analytics
The company I am with shows traffic coming in to .zip files in Google Analytics. The traffic being recorded stopped a while back, but I know people are still downloading/visiting these .zip ULRs. I'm not sure how they were recording/tracking the .zip URLs (in Analytics) before, but I'd like to track them once again. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks
