How do i fix my duplicte page issues on Prestashop platform?
-
I have tried many things such as rel-canonical, duplicate url redirect modules, but still im looking at over 70 duplicate page titles. Most of this is because the same title is used across all the pages and im not sure if this is possible to change. (ex: http://apostolicclothing.com/15-modest-womens-dresses, http://apostolicclothing.com/15-modest-womens-dresses?p=2)

Hi Nathaniel,
Sorry to be late to the party, but I just noticed this because I was doing some research on Prestashop and SEO. (Considering helping a client on that platform.)
I came across a person who might be able to help you - Lesley Paone.
Lesley is "an expert in PrestaShop development and is also a PrestaShop certified developer. He is also one of the global moderators of PrestaShop's e-ecommerce forum, which is one of the largest e-commerce forums on the internet. He is also an SEO relating to e-commerce sites and is very active on the SEO forums for Moz as well." You can find him on Twitter at @lesleypaone, on his site at dh42.com, and by private messaging him here on Moz.
Good luck!

So....is there no other way to fix this? so far i was told to change the robot file and to change it back but no other fix?
-
oops i already added that to the robot file, will remove it. Its definitely a pagination issue. I have multiple pages but of course being a database backed site, i cant change the titles of each page (at least i don't know how to in SQL). Thanks for the catch, i've been trying to fix this issue for almost 6 months with non canonical tags, etc but I'm still getting all the red flags.
-
**(what Andy stated above, sorry Andy, that's a disallow, not a noindex). **
Whoops - good catch
-
Are these issues caused by pagination? Page 1, Page 2, Page 3 things? A canonical is not exactly right. A noindex would be best, (noindex, follow) specifically, just make sure that tag isn't put on page 1. You want page 1 in the index.
I would no suggest disallowing the crawling of the pages (what Andy stated above, sorry Andy, that's a disallow, not a noindex).
I am not sure how to change this for just the paginated pages though. I'd look for a noindex module in the Prestashop Modules area.
-
I would have suggested a rel=canonical, but as you can't get this working, have you thought about just no-indexing those pages? Adding the following line to your robots.txt should solve it:
Disalllow: ?p=
Then add this to the robots tester in Webmaster tools before committing to it.

Form Only Pages Considered No Content/Duplicate Pages
We have a lot of WordPress sites with pages that contain only a form. The header, sidebar and footer content is the same as what's one other pages throughout the site. Each form page has a unique page title, meta description, form title and questions but the form title, description and questions add up to probably less than 100 words. Are these form pages negatively affecting the rankings of our landing pages or being viewed as duplicate or no content pages?

Home page keyword effecting internal page ranking
Hello, My client has a second keyword for the home page that is competitive. The home page is not being ranked for this keyword. Instead, an internal category page is ranking. This internal category page is more relevant than the home page - it shows the categories for the actual products that this term refers to. But everyone around us in Google's page results has far more backlinks than the internal page, and we're all heavily optimized for this term. My question is, is it safe to pull the second term off of the home page or is this internal page strong because it is somehow being strengthened by the home page optimization?

What if Paginated Pages all have PageRank?
Paginated Pages, page 2,3,4 etc.... they aren't supposed to have a PageRank, right? If they are only linked to from themselves, only the original page, Page 1, is supposed to be showing PageRank? I'm trying to double check that I am handling this right. I'm not using canonical, or noindex or any of that... just using rel next and prev, which I thought would be fine. Thoughts?

Rel canonical Issue
I have a huge rel canonical issue showing up on my website, and I'm not sure that I fully understand why. To my knowledge, this is something that comes about when alternate urls are used to link to the same page. However, this is not a technique that I've used with my website, yet it's still raising a flag on just about every page. http://bit.ly/jYyTYN Can anyone enlighten me on what's causing this? Thanks

On-page: Over optimized images?
Hello guys. I have a small question about an on-page optimization for images. What I have: good title tag / good url structure good content (NOT keyword shuffled, its real content, for real people) images / gallery uploaded to folder named same as article name. For example: Great tips for bloggers [article name], great-tips-for-bloggers [folder name]. So my question is: Will Google harm me for this "too good" paths to images, article related image filenames, with mask like [gtips-img01], and if all images have titles / alt tags? Thank you guys.

Should one page with markers or six separate pages?
Hi - I'm working on a site that was set up with 6 bios on one page, with markers jumping to each person's name. I was thinking about separating those into 6 different pages, but not sure if that's the right thing to do. Advice about keeping the bios on one page vs splitting them up? (Am I more likely to rank for those peoples' names if I have a unique page, or is the one page url with each different marker in it, just as good?) Ranking well for those names isn't a huge goal of the site, but it would be nice to make the choice that would help with that rank. Thanks for your input Emma
