Brand Migration Issues
-
My company is in the midst of a brand transition and is experiencing some difficulties in migrating web content to a parent company domain. When content from the old domain was migrated to the parent, there were rel-canonicals set on top level pages of the old domain referencing its equal on the parent destination. Then each sub-page was redirected to the parent company.
What I have found is that the only pages that indexed on the partent domain were the top level pages. I am having a hard time figuring out why the sub-pages won't index. Does anyone have advice on how to handle this? Would reactivating the old URLs and setting rel-canonicals help? Also when should 301 redirects be implemented?

Hi there
I would run through this migration guide to make sure that you took every step in moving the old site. It sounds like you did this in a messy way and I'm not entirely sure what you did. If you are moving content, 301 redirects need to be in place immediately.
I would also read into Google's resources on URL changes.
This is all kind of cloudy, so make sure you run through the resource above and that should help you.
Let me know! Good luck!

Organic Brand Clicks/Traffic Drop - Why?
Hi Moz Community, I've been reviewing Search Console and have been noticing that there has been a consistent drop in brand clicks. The overall number of keywords (especially for the top 2 pages) have been increasing, according to SEMRUSH, however, traffic and sales are still in decline. There are no algorithmic and manual penalties, in addition, paid search activity has been increasing in the leadup to Christmas. Has anyone experienced this and potentially advise how to diagnose and resolve this issue?

How to handle knock-off product leveraging your brand keywords?
Hello all, I fear this may be a bit of newcomer question but maybe you can help me out. My business is in a highly competitive market, and when you search for our branded name many of our competitors show up in search results well before us (who don't contain, or even reference, our brand name on their site). We're trying to take a proactive approach to content development and site enhancement, but I am wondering if there's anything on the defense-front that we can do to better own our brand ranking in SERPs. Thoughts? Suggestions? Should I be reading SEO 101? Thanks

New Product. New Brand. Gmail/Authorship Questions. Need Advice.
I'm in the process of developing a new product and brand name and would like to create all the social media accounts (FB, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc), including G+ and want it to have it's own Gmail ID like ABCXYZ@gmail.com, so I can set up all accounts using this Gmail ID and if needed down the road, have someone else help manage the accounts so they have that login and my my main Gmail login. My question is, does Google frown upon setting up new Gmail IDs under the same name "Patrick McCoy" as I have my name tied to my personal Gmail account and my company's Gmail account "whiteboardcreations@gmail" both with G+ pages and URLs of /+PatrickMcCoy1 and /+PatrickMcCoy2 respectively. I'd like to have Authorship associated with the new product website and also want the new product to have it's own G+ Business Page to post updates, info, etc., which is why I'm getting a little confused on how I'd do it the right way, What would you do or does it really matter... can my new Gmail account of ABCXYZ@gmail just be /+PatrickMcCoy3 which is associated to my new product/brand name? Thank you and look forward to the feedback!

Anybody else seeing branded organic traffic decreasing and direct traffic increasing? Anything to do with Google auto-filling URLs?
If so, what could the reasons for this be? Maybe because of Google auto-filling URLs? Thanks for reading!

List Quick and Dirty places to seo-tag images/content for new brands
I'm helping a new brand (service industry) to try to dominate the first page for their own name. They have a name that also exists in another state AND a negative Yelp review which (shows up #4, whilst they show up #1 on google unpersonalized search). Aside from Linkedin/Facebook/twitter, what are good places to Tag Images and have them show up under the search for this company's name. This is a picture/heavy industry (jewelry) and I'm looking to create profiles on several sites that would immediately show up if I tag the content properly. Are quora/pinterest good choices? I need to grab-bag as many properties as possible. Secondary question: would these properties on quora etc, respond well to exact-match anchor text links to shoot them past the negative yelp rating that is showing up #4 for their brand?

Brand SERP Domination
Hi Mozfans, I've been asked by my management to try and "Dominate" our Branded SERP (I've also posted this question as a private question to the Moz staff but would love to know what the community thinks of this or if anyone has "Brand SERP" experience); For our brand name, the first page SERP currently looks like this; ================================ Current SERP 1 (Google UK): Our homepage (with the 6 pack of prominent pages beneath it) An advert that we control An advert that we control An advert that we control An advert that we control One of those random business directories - we don't control the listing Something not related to us at all Something not related to us at all One of those random business directories - we don't control the listing Something not related to us at all ================================ As you can see from the above list, we are already dominating the top 50% of our branded SERP page, however management would like 100% (of course). Now two obvious things that are missing from our Branded SERP page are our Facebook Page and our Twitter Profile, however, how do I get those to rank? I believe I read somewhere (it might have been on the SEOmoz/YOUmoz blog) that the answer is to build links to those profiles (with your brand name as the anchor text). Would that work? We currently use an external SEO company for our link building so could it help if we asked them to build links for us pointing at those two social profiles? Also, are there any other methods for dominating a branded SERP? What would you recommend? Thanks in advance everyone! Regards, Ash

BRAND STACKING!!!1!11! (angry fist)
I have been noticing a pattern with my highest ROI keywords. The company I work for sells a ton of different brands. Over the last month one by one my ranks are droping down by about three to the parent companys brand stack. Now I know that Google favors brands but it seems in the last month they have become much more aggressive with brand stacking. Has anyone else noticed this problem or has there been some action on the part of Google to make this happen?
