Impact issues when switching from .com to uk
-
Buon Giorno from wetherby UK 5 degrees C and rivers bursting their banks everywhere
This site http://www.sandtoft.com/ has requested a switch in url forwardfing in that they want the following to happen:
When u enter the .com url it forwards to the .co.uk domain (the opposite from what it is today ie when you eneter .co.uk it switches to the .com url)
So my question is please...
"Will changing the .com url to .co.uk via forwarding affect SERPS in any significant manner" My view is the impact will be a minor dip in the serps followed by a recovery.
Any insights welcome

They already have Google confused and they are serving up .co.uk pages in the index
I agree with the move for a UK site to have a co.uk domain just make sure you are doing it accress the board, properly forwarding the .com and updating all sitemap.xml files and internal navigation
P.S.
-
block your plugins folder in robots.txt
-
check webmaster tools for duplicate title tags and make them all unique
-
Optimize your title tag you have <title><a class="l" href="http://www.sandtoft.co.uk/resource-centre/photo-gallery/photo-gallery-images/?photoID=634&DSID=12">Sandtoft Roof Tiles - Photo Gallery Images</title>
should be something more like <title><strong>Grey Slate Roof Tiles</strong> | Sandtroft Tile Store</title>
with the description of the tile at the beginning of the tag, not the name of the company, that's your domain name you'll already rank for that.

I did a similar thing not too long ago (maybe 9 months ago) for a friend. To cut a long story short he only usually averaged 50 visitors a day coming on to his website from Google and about 400 visitors as direct traffic. He ran a large scale offline marketing campaign and the printers managed to screw up his domain name so he wanted to do the same thing as your client.
I anticipated a similar effect to what you expect in that SERPS might drop slightly but then recover. However, his 50 visitors a day dropped to around 25 a day for 3 months and all his rankings (not that there were many terms he ranked for anyway!) dropped off quite badly. After 3 months, they recovered quite well apart from one search term.
I think on a larger scale operation such as yours, the data and figures might represent a real life answer a little more than my data set on such a small scale website... Due to this its hard to say whether you will see a similar effect on your clients website.

Hello I have a Magento Store View issue!
Hi guys hope you can help - we have recenetly added a couple of "store views" to our magento website, in order for us to break down orders from channels that feed through M2e pro. What is great is that it gives us a little break down on amazon, ebay and the store sales separate, depending on which we select. However - we have ran into a issue with duplicate content, mainly on pages such as the checkout? /checkout/?___store=default&___from_store=m2e_ebay /checkout/?___store=default&___from_store=m2e_amazon Issue being the above - I am hoping we can keep how we have broken down the store for a quick reporting instance by day. However how do / if I can - get round this?? Surely if I was to redirect on the checkout it would cause issues. Any advice greatly appreciated Kelly

SEO-impact of mouseover text on header pictures
Hi, what do you reckon of taking away the mouseover effect on the header pictures seen on www.viventura.de/reisen/peru?

We are thinking of eliminating the mouseover text to make User Experience even better but are worrying that our ranking might go down when doing so. Any experiences, any help is highly appreciated!

Sitemap and crawl impact
If I have two links in the sitemap (for example: page1.html and page2.html) but the web-site contains more pages (page1.html, page2.html and page3.html) is this a sign for Google to not to crawl other pages? I.e. Will Google index page3.html? Consider that any page can be accessed.

To 301 redirect or not to 301 redirect? duplicate content problem www.domain.com and www.domain.com/en/
Hello, If your website is getting flagged for duplicate content from your main domain www.domain.com and your multilingual english domain www.domain.com/en/ is it wise to 301 redirect the english multilingual website to the main site? Please advise. We've recently installed the joomish component to one of our joomla websites in an effort to streamline a spanish translation of the website. The translation was a success and the new spanish webpages were indexed but unfortunately one of the web developers enabled the english part of the component and some english webpages were also indexed under the multilingual english domain www.domain.com/en/ and that flagged us for duplicate content. I added a 301 redirect to redirect all visitors from the www.domain/en/ webpages to the main www.domain.com/ webpages. But is that the proper way of handling this problem? Please advise.

Impact of Adding a Mobile Site
Hi, we ranked very well for keywords trophies and trophies and awards on our home page, trophycentral.com for quite a while (many years). Recently we dropped off the charts, but are not sure why. So we posted this issue last week and got some great suggestions and are in the process of addressing them. However, we are now wondering if we caused this issue when we launched our mobile site a few months ago (timing makes sense). Has anyone had trouble with a mobile site impacting their traditional site? I am wondering if maybe google is splitting the traffic to the trophycentral domain and the m.trophycentral.com domain? Here is the code we have< script type="text/javascript" src="http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/sportsawards/mobile-redirection.js">script>Appreciate your comments!

Caninical issue
Hello all, I have a problem related to "canonical issues" that I would like to get your view on: The issue: Our site: http://www.texaspoker.dk/ has a "canonical issue" with the home page. We added a redirect to www.texaspoker.dk, but this hasn't solved our problem. In the latest "too many on page links" analysis made with SEOmoz' exelent SEO tool, we get the following error: http://www.texaspoker.dk(101 on page links) http://www.texaspoker.dk/?page=2 (on page links) So, made simple, the analysis tells us that both http://www.texaspoker.dk and http://www.texaspoker.dk/?page=2 has too many on page links. How do I eliminate / remove the unwanted http://www.texaspoker.dk/?page=2 and how did it, in the first place, get there? Thanks a lot!
