Blog Commnets
-
Since they are nofollow, are blog comments worth while making in a link-building campaign? Seems to be some controversy about the amount of value nofollow links add.
-
Mass comments on blogs is a spam technique- big time. Although, blog commenting should not be a SEO exercise- SEO is an added benefit of it. It should be more of an engagement activity than anything else.
-
I think if you choose carefully blog commenting can be worth your time. It might not do a ton with SEO (although I think a no-follow is better than no link at all), but it can certainly help you establish relationships with other members in your niche's community. What I would do is try to become a regular on some authority sites (and not post a link at first). Once you are comfortable you can occasionally post a link or two.
I would still say on an effective scale of 1-10, blog comments could be a 2-3 at best. Your time is probably better spent getting links from other sources or building good content. I'd be very pick with the blogs I went after.

My opinion on blog comments?
a) Creating lots of blog comments on irrelevant sites with generic 'thanks for the post' comments just looks spammy. As others on here said, it doesn't look good and can raise a flag.
b) the approval rate for blog comments is really low, most are no-follow (pagerank doesn't flow) and it is hard and time consuming to find blogs with a good pagerank . You're much better spending the time it takes to make a blog comment working on content that could potentially get thousands of natural links.
c) Lastly, there are some rare exceptions when you might get a link from a blog comment that is worthwhile. Engage in blogs that you feel fit your niche to build reputability and you may find yourself gaining from it - but don't use them as a method of link building.
-
Totally agree, mass blog comments could make your business look like spammers, I myself delete a ton of comments from our articles.
Also the last WBF explained a bit about nofollow links, but what it means is that if a site is getting links naturally there will be a lot of different kinds of links to it, some will be nofollow and some will be follow, if a site only has follow links, then it could be a signal for link buys and raise a flag.
-
I would not spend time making them. If they are nofollowed they are not supposed to be helpful for rankings.
Also, a lot of the blog comments with links that I see are very ignorantly worded and make the owner of the target website look like an illiterate fool. And ignorant comments on a spammy blog might put a bad odor on your site.
They might be more valuable with the competitor's link on them.

Getting two BOTW.org listings? Regular drirectory + blog directory?
I have a start-up website. It's a niche market that's not all that competitive. I'm trying to get going with some basic link building, and I'm trying to focus for the time being on some recommended directories: BOTW, yahoo, business.com, etc. I already have a regular BOTW directory listing, accepted a few days ago. I'm wondering if it's worth also getting a BOTW blog directory listing? So two BOTW listings, the first pointing to the homepage, the second would point to the blog. If there is meaningful link juice to be passed, would there be an advantage of having two links? Or will the one I already have suffice? Also, since the site is new, I only have a few blog posts. Is BOTW likely to reject me because my blog is too thin? The posts I have are content-heavy (1000-2500 words per entry), but there's just not a large total quantity yet. Normally I wouldn't consider it, but they're having a cyber-monday sale today where it's 50% off the regular price, so it makes the decision easier. Thanks.

Need feedback: Should we move our blog from blogger to our e-commerce site?
Hi, I write the blog for an e-commerce site that sells swimwear www.allwetbeachwear.com. The blog is currently a blogger blog that lives off the domain. I have always thought that having a blogger blog for the site looked unprofessional yet might be good for SEO since google owns blogger. However recently we are making SEO improvements and want to create more internal links to keep up with our competitors. I am thinking an on-site blog might be good for SEO. What do you recommend for the best SEO results for our site? -keeping on blog hosted on blogger -creating a new blog on our e-commerce platform -hosting the blogger blog on a subdomain of our ecommerce site Thanks!

I have created 5 model specific blog sites which deliver links to my core site.
I post about 500 words of unique relevant content weekly to each model blog site. Each week, seo smartlinks delivers keyword anchor text links to my core site with a 3% keyword density. I have been doing this for 3 months and my core site traffic is stagnant or slightly down. Is this a good practice since its relevant content, or am I writing for nothing? Also, am I in danger of over optimized anchor text?

Blog Directories
Will links from blog directories to our subfolder-located blog within our website help the ranking of our overall site? In other words, will it just help the rankings of the main blog page (where the directory links are pointing to), or will it pass the link juice to the rest of the site? Thanks!

Does PA matter much on blogs like tumblr, wordpress.com?
I've been exploring setting up pages on these type of sites. When searching for key words I've discovered the following... If a sites DA id let's say 83, the root domain you create is also an 83 (not 100% but most I've looked at) The PA starts at 1, but there seem to be a lot of these blog sites that rank for my key word searches even though the PA is a 1. So... I was wondering the value of attempting the get the PA of mine greater than one with back links. The blog page will link to the corresponding page on my main site. Is it worth the time, or PA in this case is not really much of a ranking factor in creating link juice? What I'm asking is that will a page on let's say joemastriano.blogspot.com/ (whatever) get more link juice to the page i link it to if the PA was 25 and not 1?
