Magento- Temporary Redirects
-
Hey guys!
My organization just launched an eCommerce site and we are receiving a lot of temporary redirect issues. How do you solve this issue (36k of them) within Magento Enterprise?
1. All settings have been changed to 301 redirects but I am still receiving the same errors during my crawl report.
2. Website URL = www.CanyonOS.com
Any support or advice is greatly appreciated! Oh and if you need any toner, you know where to go :)!
Sincerely,
-
The errors are appearing because users are immediately redirected to the login page. It doesn't actually matter whether these are 301 or 302 redirects because you're not looking to pass link equity anyway. The easiest way to deal with this is to tell crawlers (like Moz's and Google's) to ignore stuff they couldn't see anyway because it's only shown to logged-in users.
I generally block the /customer/* folder in robots.txt to avoid issues like this. And if you have a wishlist in the primary nav that's worth blocking, too. You could also just remove the Wish List link when users aren't logged in. The idea is to tell the crawlers to avoid any portion of the site where a login is required. So you could just upload a text file to canyonos.com/robots.txt that looks like this:
user-agent: *
disallow: /customer/
disallow: /wishlist/
These lines will block the entire folder, so you should only do it if there's nothing in the folder that search engines can see. In other words, use this line if everything in the folder is behind a login (it usually is in Magento).
Google's info is pretty good here:

Hi Umar,
Thank you for your response. We moved from an old WP site that we only used for B2B content, the site did not have any product content. We currently use MageWorx SEO Suite, but we have been unable to fix the redirect and duplicate page content issues.
Our last crawl report (moz) showed that we reduced the errors from 36k to 24k. All of the redirect issues are from wishlist, checkout, and comparing URLs.
Any suggestions?
Thank you for all your help!

Hey Bryce,
First of all best wishes for your site and I'll surely visit it to get a toner if you give me a good discount
Coming to your question, is it a new site or you moved the old one? For dealing all the redirection issues, my developer usually go with this extension and it's pretty good,
http://www.magentocommerce.com/magento-connect/optimise-web-s-mass-301-redirects-for-404-pages.htmlCould you please tell us which crawler report you're referring to, is it a Moz crawler or some other one? And, when you fixed it? As sometimes, it does take some time to report things correctly.
Umar

Links>TopPages: Mostly image URLs: Good for SEO? Redirect obsolete ones??
Looking at my "Links > Top Pages" report shows the top fifteen being image URLs (jpg files). Weird or normal? Clicking the "View Links" icon for a few of the image URL's shows that the best links in the list have DA in the 30's and 40's, and some PA in the 20's. But the linking sites have names that SOUND pretty crappy (from sites with names that sound weird or spammy) QUESTION 1: Do links to image URLs... A) help the overall SEO of the site's HTML pages, B) only help the specific page the image appears on, C) or are they of no value to the regular pages? QUESTION 2: What to do with the obsolete images? (images still hosted on our site, but do not appear on any pages) If I remove the images, the links will be lost. Which is good if the links are hurting us, but it would be bad for our SEO if the links are helping (unless we 301 the obsolete images to current ones) Thanks!

Do you get link equity from a redirect service?
When using a redirect service, do you get link equity from the redirect service or only from the linking website? Using opensite explorer in Moz, always shows me directory and redirect services as most important contribution for the domain authority. But I'm questioning if this is true. P.S. I'm not asking if link equity is passed from the linking website. That question has been answered many many many times. (hint: the answer is yes). H58xHAl.png pGH7e48.png

SEO impact of redirecting high ranking mirror site to the main website
During SEO audit for a client I noticed that they had over a dozen duplicate websites that are carbon copies of the main website. This was done via CMS platform and DNS. One of the mirror sites has about 400 indexed pages and has Moz DA of 42 and 137k External Equity-Passing Links. Full metrics comparison is attached. I originally planned on doing rel="canonical" on the mirror site but the CMS vendor never even heard of it and is refusing to implement it in the header. My only other option is doing one to one 301 redirects. Since the mirror site ranks well, even competes with main domain for some positions on the 1st page of SERP, what will be the impact after the redirects? Is doing 301's still the best option? Thanks! Magento Site "Title Missing or Empty"
Hi everyone . . ..bear with me as I am "noob". My moz analysis brought up a few "critical" issues, one of which was a missing or empty title for a page. That page is: http://www.thirdcoastsigns.com/sales/guest/form Which does not even appear to be a working page . . . so I'm at a bit of a loss ow to fix this. I suspect it's a little bit of SEO expertise and a little bit of Magento expertise. Thoughts and suggestions welcome! P.S. Look forward to my NEXT noob question about a bunch of pages I have flagged as "Pages with temporary redirects". Stay tuned!

Getting Redirect Loop and Oauth Error When Adding Facebook Page
Hi all, I keep getting the following error when trying to add my Facebook page. It worked fine in the past and has suddenly stopped working: The webpage at https://graph.facebook.com/oauth/authorize?client_id=142287725855094&redirect_uri=http%3A%2F%2Fpro.seomoz.org%2Fcampaigns%2F173488%2Fsocial%2Fcreate%2Ffacebook%2F127833296954.html&scope=read_stream%2Cuser_videos%2Cuser_photos%2Cuser_photo_video_tags%2Cmanage_pages%2Cread_insights has resulted in too many redirects. Clearing your cookies for this site or allowing third-party cookies may fix the problem. If not, it is possibly a server configuration issue and not a problem with your computer. I've tried clearing cache and deleting cookies. Any other ideas I would try? Thanks!

301 Permanently Moved Redirect
After completing a crawl of my website: www.getyourphotosonchavas.com I noticed that all of the pages had a 301 Redirect? There is this huge amount of what appears to be corrupted

data for each of these pages: Please see the attached Crawl report and a test ran from a crawl spider. It looks like each page is a 301 redirect to itself? Can anyone please tell me what all this means? 301-Redirect-crawl.jpg 301-Redirects.jpg0 -
Experencing page authority issues after a 301 redirect
We just completed a build of a new site and used 301 redirects to retain our page authority. In the first week all the interior pages reported a page authority of 1 after 2 or so weeks the page authority began to look more accurate but they were still not as high as the original pages. The strange thing is that when you click on the link to a page the page authority populates correctly but when the page finally finished loading the PA goes back down. Has anyone ever experienced this and if so how did you fix it? Thanks!
