Website Traffic Drop After Switch

Hey guys, two weeks ago we switched over to the new website, however we've experienced about a 20% drop in Google Organic traffic and it does not appear we are getting indexed correctly by Google. On search results it's not using the meta description and the links still point to the old pages.

Hey guys, big thanks for everyone chiming in here. We did do the fetch as Google and don't have any rel canonical and we didn't move to any other domain (even kept the same IP) We've dipped down -8% in Google, which is very expected with such a large switchover but the 25-% drop in direct traffic is what has been hard to figure out. At first I thought it might search traffic masquerading as direct (as several articles have noted) but that is only down -8%. It might be technical of nature, perhaps the analytics code isn't firing correctly somewhere. I was just curious what you all had experienced with a major re-launch... Up until this point the site was last overhauled in 2007.

Some good advice has already been given. Also, it's not un-normal to experience a traffic dip after migrating a site. It's only been two weeks and I would expect you to begin recovering that as more time goes by, redirects are crawled, etc.

- Make sure you don't have canonicals to old urls
- Redirects are 301
- Make sure you use the Change of Address tool in GSC

Hi there.
I always do request for recrawling website in GWT (fetch as Google). If your website is not large, you can request recrawl of each page to make sure all of them get enough attention
Otherwise, just do recrawl for index page and check "Crawl this URL and its direct links".

Website Redesign & Ensuring Minimal Traffic/Rankings Lost
Hi there, We have undergone a website redesign (mycompany.com) and our site is ready to go live however the new website is built on a different platform so all of our blog pages will not be copied over - to avoid a large web developer expense. So our intention is to then leave all the blog pages as (on the old web design) but move it to the domain blog.mycompany.com with 301 redirects inserted on mycompany.com for each blog post pointing to the corresponding blog.mycompany.com. Is there anything else we should do to ensure minimal traffic/rankings are lost? Thank you so much for your help.

Ranking drop after new website
Hi there, I have a new client who has just had a new website built (by someone else). It was quite a major change as it was 12 years old and has just been moved to Wordpress. However although they are by and large happy with the new site, they have lost a lot of their rankings in Google. The content and menu structure is apparently identical. I told them I didn't think this was unusual but I'm not sure how easy it will be to get them ranking again. Where are they likely to be starting from? Is it a case of starting from the beginning or will there be some residual ranking capability left over? Or can they expect a full recovery over time? I was going to start by looking to see if things like tagging and meta data has been filled in (I will add the site to my Moz account) but is there any way of comparing the old site with the new for SEO purposes? SEO Tips for Affiliate Website
Hi all , I would just like to have an expert Opinion on SEO for Affiliate Website . Basically if I list all Third party products (Amazon/Affilate Window etc ) on my website and then the customer will be redirected to the Affiliates website to make a Purchase will there be an issue with SEO (Lots of Outgoing Url's) and Will the website not rank for Important keywords or will it be hit by any penalty ? I heard it's not good for SEO , any work around this ? If this is case How come cashback Sites rank well with no issues , although the concept is basically the same ? Any Tips or Advice appreciated as how to get this done safe . My Preferred Option would be with Magento Shopping Cart or second option would be with Wordpress Cart only in case this provides some SEO benefits over Magento by some plugins .

Switching over to wordpress
Hello fellow Mozers! I've searched to see if I find an answer, cant seem to find it. Is there a way to do a blanket 301 redirect? I am moving a site that has all pages end with .html extension over to wordpress. I was wondering if I could set up a rule that says redirect all pages with .html extension to a version of the page with no extension. I will keep the same url with the exception of the .html extension. http://www.website.com/page.html to http://www.website.com/page/

My web developer says that a m.domain.com is duplicated with the domain.com, and he recommends a responsive design. What is better for SEO positions in mobiles devices. Hello, Im working on a clients website and I have 2 box's. One is a subscription box and the other is a newsletter sing up. Subscription box is a google feedburner where every time there is a new post, it automatically notifies the readers.
