Do I use H1 tag for logo or page content?
-
Should the h1 tag be used for the main page content or the logo?
I understand the original method was too H1 the logo with the main search term, does this still hold true or should it be content focused?
-
No your brand name will always be your brand name. If they search for that your brand name should come up no 1. So do not waste a H1/SEO opportunity unless the boss demands it. The searcher is looking for you, you should rank no 1 for your brand name so in that instance the H1 brand name has no impact.
The exceptions could be where the brand name is or includes the keyword target etc. So may need to think a little more laterally. So if the company is called "Health Insurance Inc" & and is chasing the word Health Insurance. In that instance making your H1 your brand name... or part thereof is a good idea!.
The H1 should be helpful to both google and the customer - so frame your H1 in that light for each page.
Hope that assists.

Thanks interesting, makes good sense.
So to clarify an exception might be if you were promoting brand name? -
No the H1 is important for google. It helps match a searchers intent with the page. ie if looking for beds ... then ideally the H1 has the word bed in it. Additionally it assists in comforting the customer they are on a relevant site if the H1 in some manner matches the keyword (searchers intent) that was typed in.
The H1 assists in telling google what you page is about especially if the content on the page is not clear. There impact has been reduced but I believe still significant and simple enough to implement and do properly. Each page should answer a customer query so consider them as content title tags that help tell google understand what the page is about.
Each page should have a unique H1 tag and only one that describes that pages content and contains the target keyword for that page.
Hope that assists. To clearly answer your query. The H1 should not be your logo.. though there maybe rare page exceptions.

Hi All, Need a suggestion on it. For buttons, I am using links in tag instead of "ahref". Do you know that can Google read links inside "div" tag? Does it pass rank juice? It will be great if you can provide any reference if possible.

Is single H1 tag still best practice?
Hi Guys, Is having a single h1 tag still best practice for SEO? Guessing multiple h1 tags dilute the value of the tag and keywords within the tag. Thoughts? Cheers.

I currently have a canonical tag pointing to a different url for single page categories on eCommerce site. Is this wrong ?
Hi Mozzers, I have a query regarding canonical tags on my eCommerce site.. Basically on my category pages whereby I have more than 1 page, I currently use next/prev rel and also have a canonical tag pointing to the View all version of that page. This is believe is correct.(see example - http://goo.gl/2gz6LV However, from looking at the view source on my other pages, I have noticed I have canonical tags on all my category pages which are only a single page and these canonicaltag are pointing to a different url. I enclose an example . Please advise Category page - http://goo.gl/Pk4zYl This is where the canonical tag points to - http://goo.gl/EwKv26 Another example Category Page - http://goo.gl/4gWTdD This is where the canonical tag for that page points to http://goo.gl/qm4HV7 Should I either make sure that categories that are only 1 page , don't have a canonical tag at all ? or do I have a canonical tag on say every page on my website for safety pointing to the main url for that page. The later, I imagine would be a belt and braces approach but I don't want to screw up anything if it's not advised? Please help/ Kind regards Pete

Using author on every page of website?
I'm currently get to grips with schema and one thing im using is author on my blog posts and seeing my photo etc on organic searches which are related. I see one of my competitors is using author on every page on their website, not just blog posts etc. Are there any recommendation when it should be used? Should it be site wide or is it really intended for blog posts etc? Would it be wrong for me to use on every page of my website as one of my businesses is myself as a lone person? This is what you get when searching for driving lessons in just about any town! https://www.google.co.uk/#gs_rn=15&gs_ri=psy-ab&tok=LS_DOrAHswmHC9_8AJZEJA&suggest=p&pq=driving instructor brighton&cp=20&gs_id=1k2&xhr=t&q=driving+lessons+crawley&es_nrs=true&pf=p&sclient=psy-ab&oq=driving+lessons+craw&gs_l=&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.47244034,d.d2k&fp=45c2f917e11bca99&biw=1680&bih=843 Any comments welcome! Apart from not do it to start with? I am thinking 301s won't work as I want the URL to work. And rel=canonical won't work as there is no actual page code to add it to. How to Remove Joomla Canonical and Duplicate Page Content
I've attempted to follow advice from the Q&A section. Currently on the site www.cherrycreekspine.com, I've edited the .htaccess file to help with 301s - all pages redirect to www.cherrycreekspine.com. Secondly, I'd added the canonical statement in the header of the web pages. I have cut the Duplicate Page Content in half ... now I have a remaining 40 pages to fix up. This is my practice site to try and understand what SEOmoz can do for me. I've looked at some of your videos on Youtube ... I feel like I'm scrambling around to the Q&A and the internet to understand this product. I'm reading the beginners guide.... any other resources would be helpful.
