Hi Herbet, in addition to the great resource Moosa Linked to above, you may also want to check out our Beginners Guide to SEO. Actually, I'd make sure you understand and get some experience implementing all the concepts introduced in the Beginners Guide before tackling a few small to medium eCommerce sites, and then moving onto a large one once you've gained some valuable experience and built up your confidence in optimizing sites . Optimizing a large e-commerce site e-commerce site is quite involved, and is a huge investment of time and money.
To answer your first question, though, if you only have the resources focus on adding custom titles and page descriptions for your site OR schema tags at first, I'd definitely start with the titles and page descriptions. If you don't write your own and properly mark them up, then the search engines will have a much harder time figuring out what your pages are about, and will populate the page titles and descriptions for them in search results with whatever they can find on your pages.

It´s a lot of work! Thanks Chris! I´ll take note

Talking from the experience e-commerce for a big website is one hell of a deal and if it’s a competitive market you need to deal with lots of stuff. You have to deal with everything from Meta details to UI, UX, schema and more.

This post covers the initial game plan but there is always more to it.
Hope this helps!

There are a lot of elements to consider when doing an eCommerce SEO campaign and both schema and your page titles/meta descriptions form just small parts of it.
Are you currently researching how to SEO the site or are you at a point where the majority of work is done and you're looking to refine schema/meta info?

Schema is slowly picking up and would be very beneficial and will be deemed important by search engines as its a joint effort by Google, Bing and Yahoo!.
Meta tags on the other hand have always been important. Page Title being the most important here.

My Website stopped being in the Google Index
Hi there, So My website is two weeks old, and I published it and it was ranking at about page 10 or 11 for a week maybe a bit longer. The last few days it dropped off the rankings, which I assumed was the google algorithm doing its thing but when I checked Google Search Console it says my domain is not in the index. 'This page is not in the index, but not because of an error. See the details below to learn why it wasn't indexed.' I click request indexing, then after a bit, it goes green saying it was successfully indexed. Then when I refresh the website it gives me the same message 'This page is not in the index, but not because of an error. See the details below to learn why it wasn't indexed.' Not sure why it says this, any ideas or help is appreciated cheers.

What crawler do you recommend for finding orphaned pages on a website?
Is there a crawler that you guys recommend for finding all pages, including orphaned pages on a website? A data export is not feasible. I saw a question from back in 2013 and was wondering if anything has changed since then in regards to crawling orphaned pages. Do most enterprise systems already have this built into their crawler? Or is it best to get a crawler like Xenu or Screaming Frog or Deepcrawl?

Website not ranking but the blog is!
I am hoping someone might be able to help me, I am doing some work on a website. A new version of the site was recently launched and since then rankings have plummeted and the new blog pages are ranking better! When the new version of the site went live, the domain changed to the non-www version, plus an incorrect robots.txt file and we have never really been able to fully recover (both of these things were beyond my control!). The robots.txt file was corrected and some of the external links links changed to the non-www but there is a 301 redirect in place so changing to the non-www shouldn't have been the reason to drop the site out completely. Before the launch of the new website, the site was ranking on the front page of Google for a lot of relevant keywords such as outdoor blinds, outdoor blinds Perth, cafe blinds, patio blinds, etc. The quality of the links is pretty bad and I am attempting to remove them before doing a disavow of all the really bad quality links but unless we were really unlucky I don't think it's the links right now that are causing the problem. I have ran the site through numerous crawl tests, checked the robots.txt, there are no messages in GWMT, the pages are indexed but I have a feeling there is something wrong with the site that is stopping this site from ranking well. If anyone could give me any insights I would be really grateful. I know the site could be better structured from a keyword/ structure perspective but the site was ranking fine!

How can you avoid duplicate content within your own e-commerce website
One of the e-commerce websites I am working on is giving me a lot of duplicate content errors because all of the products are the same, just different sizes. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this problem or should i just ignore it? Someone in the office brought up the idea to just use an i frame for all product descriptions. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
