Search directories, are they worth it??
-
I pay Yahoo, sorry Aabaco.... a lot of money every year to be listed on all the little search directories. I'm told this helps my SEO efforts, but I don't see where? Is there a page on MOZ that would tell me this, I'm interested to know the truth about this? I'm kind of new to seo so please answer lightly...

Hey Miss Thurman,
Great question. No doubt you've been googling ways to quickly increase your site's rankings and one of those is to get external links and one of the easiest ways to get external links is to put your info on a ton of online directories... Unfortunately that information is outdated. Nowadays, the links you receive from online directories are basically worthless. The only thing the directories are good for any more is having your business info out there for other people to find.
So I highly recommend that you check local directories to ensure that your business information is correct, but beyond that, I wouldn't worry about them that much. MOZ has a service called Local Listing which will automatically update your businesses' info across a number of listing sites, that others also pull their info from. It keeps you up to date on your submissions, whether there is a duplicate listing, or incorrect listings that need to be removed (some they remove for you, others must be removed by you).

If you're talking about being added and local directories you can do that using mozlocal  this will increase your local presence but search directories that are random  directories for the sake of being directories or not relevant are worthless and will harm you unfortunately.
If you are listed in a directory like recommended by moz  and other high-quality listing like distilled.net/u or University
You are in good hands. You have to be very careful of the type of directory in which you place your website.
If it looks little fishy don't do it
I hope this is of help,
tom

Anyone notice a change in local search traffic between May 9th to May 12th or it was it just me?
My ranking tool didn't show this but GoogleMyBusiness Insights did show traffic has dropped between those dates. Please see screenshot below. URL: https://www.screencast.com/t/FSD1jvFlHl Has this been caused by local algorithm update? Please help!

VERY specific Google search result not showing
Hello, I'm doing this google search "Peruvian Lilies Delivery To Athens, Alabama globalrose", in the hopes of this page appearing. It does not! Does anyone know why this page (or most pages in out local.globalrose.com subdomain) aren't appearing on Google search results?

How do I rank inside the knowledge panel in the "people also search for" section?
Hello fellow Mozzers, In Google's knowledge panel there is a section at the bottom that says "people also search for" and a list of competitors is displayed. I'm hoping to get some information I can use to get my client listed there on top of the local organic results. The more SERP presence, the better. Attached image should provide clarity to those who are confused. I suspect I know the answer to this question, but since I can't find a source to verify my beliefs, I'm crowdsourcing. Thanks in advance! NhoihY1

Has Google Local search algorithm changed in the last 6 months?
My organic search results have increased, but I noticed that my Google local search results have dropped drastically. Â I haven't changed anything on the local side. Â I consistently get reviews. Â In my industry, I have more reviews (all 5 star) than anyone else. Â It actually shows weird results, like competitors that have no reviews and don't even have all of their information filled out. Â It is even showing competitors that are out of business. Â I have a lot of citations with the same NAP. Â I use Moz local for this purpose as well. So, I am wondering if the algorithm has changed and if I need to update my profile to match it. Thank you in advance!

Why is the incorrect city name being appended to search results when that search is done from a completely different city? Screenshot Included
Hi Guys, This is weird. Â When searching "generator rentals" from within Vancouver/Lower Mainland and on a mobile device, our organic listing is ranked #1. Â That is the good news. The bad news is that for some reason the title returend is: Â Generator Rentals & Temporary Power Distribution - Edmonton". Â The "-Edmonton" is dynamically added, but I have no idea why. Â Edmonton is in a completely different province than Vancouver... over 720 miles apart. The only thing I can think of is that there is some sort conflict with our Google places account. Â You see, we do have an Edmonton branch. Â I have setup two branches... one for the Coquitlam/Vancouver branch and one for the Edmonton. Â And as far as I can tell, both are setup correctly. A screenshot from my iPhone has been linked (http://imgur.com/9YvyLDB). Any ideas would be appreciated. Â Thank you, Jarrett 9YvyLDB

Multiple locations and local directories
Hello, A client has opened a new office in another city. I have created a local landing page for this city. Now I want to build citations for it. However, I have already set up directories like Yelp/Yell  with the primary/original address in the original city. Is it OK to set up new citations using the new city local address. The company name stays the same obviously. So I will have duplicate listings on the directories for the same company. Will this work? Thanks for any help

New design for Googles Local Search results. No more "7 Pack"
Hello MOZ-People,
Local Listings | | Andre-S
since yesterday I see (here in germany) for many keywords, that the local results in Google (the so called "7 Pack") is just a "3 Pack". AND, and this leads to my question, for keywords that suggest Google that you want to rent a vacation home, I see the possibility to enter the dates for arrival and departure (see the pic). But for now, it seems that changeing the dates has no impact on the results. Has anyone a clue, what Google has in mind with these dates? Is the an official Google response I have missed? Thank you for your answers. Best regards

How is a competitor franchise ranking all for all 3 Local results with unclaimed G+ pages in a search for the national corporation?
My company is an individual franchise of a national corporation - every franchise is operates as [National Corporate Brand Name] + a chosen descriptor such as "Premiere" or the names of the owners such as "Smith Jones". A logged-out Google search for just the national brand name returns the corporate website first, followed by the website of a competing local franchise and 3 Local listings for their offices. These listings are all unclaimed and unverified on Google+ and have no reviews or posts. The corporate Twitter is next, followed by my franchise's website. The corporate Facebook is the last result on the page. How can this competing franchise rank for all 3 Local listings with unclaimed pages? My company operates several more offices than the competitor in the same area and I regularly post to their G+ pages which I verified several months ago. Is it because the competitor's website just holds significantly more weight in Google than our own? A search for the brand name + the town where our offices are in does usually return our Local listing pages, but that limits our reach to those specific towns. Anyone have any insight on this?
