How is a competitor franchise ranking all for all 3 Local results with unclaimed G+ pages in a search for the national corporation?

My company is an individual franchise of a national corporation - every franchise is operates as [National Corporate Brand Name] + a chosen descriptor such as "Premiere" or the names of the owners such as "Smith Jones".
A logged-out Google search for just the national brand name returns the corporate website first, followed by the website of a competing local franchise and 3 Local listings for their offices. These listings are all unclaimed and unverified on Google+ and have no reviews or posts.
The corporate Twitter is next, followed by my franchise's website. The corporate Facebook is the last result on the page.
How can this competing franchise rank for all 3 Local listings with unclaimed pages? My company operates several more offices than the competitor in the same area and I regularly post to their G+ pages which I verified several months ago. Is it because the competitor's website just holds significantly more weight in Google than our own? A search for the brand name + the town where our offices are in does usually return our Local listing pages, but that limits our reach to those specific towns. Anyone have any insight on this?

I agree with Miriam, without further details, it is really hard to say what is going on. However, depending on where you are actually searching from does factor into the results as well as the website associated with the listing. Additionally, the number of citations a location has and how well those citations match up, meaning name, address, and phone are all exactly the same, can influence local listing rankings as well.
Whether or not the competitor has claimed their listing isn't really a huge factor in determining rankings. The fact that your competitors website outranks yours is an indication as to why those local listings may appear to be more relevant to the search, and therefore rank higher, than yours.

Unfortunately, without being able to investigate the actual situation, it's not possible to even begin drawing a conclusion on this. It's perfectly okay if you are not able to share the specific details of your business, but it will limit the specificity of the feedback you'll receive on questions like this one.
If you are stating that both you and your competitor have real, staffed physical offices, then you are both in the running for the same local rankings and if the search is local in nature, you can do a point-for-point comparison between your web presence and theirs to see how they may be surpassing you in certain important areas.
That being said, what you are describing is a branded search, for your company's brand name with no geo modifiers. I have run into a few situations in the past where the name of the business is generic enough that Google is confused by the intent of users searching for it. Let me give you an example of this.
Let's say you had a non-profit organization called 'Opening Doors'. Google then gets a user query using the search phrase 'opening doors'. Instead of Google recognizing this as your company's name, they think this is someone searching for a locksmith to open their door. So, the non-profit's concept of their brand name search is being confused with Google's concept of a local search for a locksmith.
Could this be playing a part in what you are experiencing? It's a weird phenomenon, but it does happen. The fact that Google is displaying a 3 pack for your query indicates that they do already sense that there is something local about the query, but whether what I've described is the answer to your situation, I have no idea.

Phone number inconsistencies - local search
Hi, Can you help me with something that is probably straightforward? A website which displays a different phone number to visitors to the one in the source code is using this for tracking purposes I assume? Since the phone number in the source code matches with the local citations I am assuming that there is no harm here in terms of local ranking? Thanks

Can you help me find out why these competitors are outranking?
I have been compiling metrics comparing this site (http://brightandclearpools.com) with two competitors (http://www.barracudapoolservice.com/ and http://peoria-pool-service.com). Nothing is really screaming out to me why they are outranking Bright and Clear Pools. BCP has higher page and domain authority stronger citation profiles more customer reviews more content better site/on-page optimization This is for organic rankings, keyword phrase 'pool service Peoria', I am using the Peoria geomodifier in an unpersonalized search. Although the client would be using both the keyword phrase with geomodifier 'pool service Peoria' while using a device in the Peoria area. An attachment for user metrics are in the response below. Searches without adding my city
Hi all, I have a small IT business and run it out of my home. My main keywords are: "Computer Repair Services". I have been optimising my site for awhile now. I am in Douglasville GA. If I search: "Computer Repair Services Douglasville" I am on pages 1-3 at any given time. I also show in maps on page 1 at times. If I only search "Computer Repair Services" I am nowhere to be found. I see other companies in my town listed but not me. I am missing out on opportunities from everyone outside my small town who does not include the city in the search. Also from all nearby towns. I know I do not have many backlinks and I need more Domain authority. I have run Open Site Explore on a competitor and his site has less authority and links than mine. He is always listed on page 1 without the city in the search. Can someone explain how I can be found without using my city in the search. Thanks

Help tracking phone number calls from Google Plus & Yahoo Local
Hi, I own a business in United States and serving multiple locations around US. I have listings for all my locations in Google Business as well as in Yahoo Local. To track the phone calls that are made through Google & Yahoo, I have provided a 2 different phone numbers in these listings in order to track it effectively. Recently, I read that even the tracking phone numbers will rise an inconsistent NAP in Google local ranking factors. If such is the case, how can can effectively track the phone calls separately from these business listing? Does anyone have any better idea for this? Thank you,

Is getting a top position in a local results block acheiveable if you are outside of the central zone ?
Most of the keywords / phrases we are targeting have the city (London) appended to it ie. service name London, service name in London etc. The business of the site we are working on is located in London, but not in central London. Because of this i think the site is not being ranking as well as it could be (compared to other sites that in the centre or nearer to the centre with seemingly lower profiles, including have no reviews on their Google + Pages). The site itself is relatively strong fluctuating between 3rd and 5th spot for the target phrases in the organic listings, but because of the local block which sits under position 2 our site always towards the bottom of the first page. We've submitted the site to all the relevant local directories and listings sites, got 3 google reviews on the Plus profile and added the correct local html schema markup to any of our sites pages where our address is mentioned, but still we are sitting at around #12 on the local listings block (when you click Map results for...) at the bottom of the 7 local listings. So the site dosnt seem far off being on the front page, but I feel ive exhausted the optimisation i can do, any ideas how i can make any gains in these local listings ?

Issues with Claiming a G+ Business Page
We are working with a client and their marketing consultant who set up a Local Listing service to help local citations, Yahoo, Google+, etc, etc... We have their G+ business page and it is verified, however, as we are new to helping them out, we don't have access to the page to make edits. Here's the catch, neither does the client, or the consultant or the listing company/people. Question: How can we go about claiming this as "our" page in order to help the client out, get it edited/optimized and then keep record of it so this doesn't happen again? PS - Typically, there is an option for a business page to "Is this your page?" or "Manage this page?" at the bottom, but I don't see one of those buttons. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Brain Teaser - Dead Link Ranking in SERP's
Hello Moz Brains. Came across a site that is coming up for "caliber signs and imaging" which is a brand I'm working with, and a few things have me baffled: 1. The link in the SERP takes you to an error page (you can manually access it by dropping the www.)

2. The entire site is setup with iFrams (header frame, body frame, and footer frame) navigating throughout the site keeps the single url and only swaps the body content.
3. The site if for a sign company but the blog area served in the iFrame is in Indonesian and seems to about some soccer matches.
4. The business associated with this site is in AZ, but they are coming in local (Irvine, CA) results with a dead page and no locally relevant content. I'm I missing something or is Google missing something? The site is "http://calibersigns.com/" and it belongs to a company in AZ. -- it comes up for "caliber signs and imaging" (in my case on the 3rd spot) or even worse "caliber signs and graphics" where it seems to be at the top, with all the surrounding content being the true brand -- which makes it look like my clients Google+ reviews and other endorsements belong to them. I have my local setting set to "92618", Irvine CA Would love some feedback on this and your opinion on how we should proceed? thanks in advance0
