Analytics Data Messed Up
-
I have a website that gives very unatural data in Analytics.
First for some reason my paid search traffic and organic traffic seems to be pretty much the same.
If I pause my adwords ads my organic traffic go down if I start them it goes up.
Anyone else had this problem before?
-
Hey there Lynn,
I think that indeed the problem is because of some redirect issues I had.
Thanks for the advice!
Keep up the good work!
-
Hi there! Did Lynn's answer do the trick? We'd love an update.

Hi,
This is likely due to either an incomplete linking between your adwords and analytics accounts or some sort of redirect issue on your website which is confusing your data and showing paid traffic as organic traffic.
For the first issue check and make sure your adwords/analytics accounts are linked correctly and make sure you have auto tagging turned on.
If that is all set up ok and you still have the problem then check out this guide to making sure server redirects are not stripping out variables which help identify paid traffic to analytics.
Usually double checking these items will solve these kind of issues. Hope it helps!

_First for some reason my paid search traffic and organic traffic seems to be pretty much the same. _
If I pause my adwords ads my organic traffic go down if I start them it goes up.
_So Inside the Analytics platform there is a section called paid traffic. There is also a section called organic. _
Organic goes up whenever my paid traffic goes up. Organic should not do that. Organic should be a steady line if not increasing since my keywords are increasing in ranking.

I am not 100% sure of your question. Your google analytics is total traffic - so it includes paid. So if you turn off paid and it shows no traffic that suggests you have little to no organic traffic.
Do you have webmaster / search console linked up to the website?
Hope that assists.

How having very little organic traffic can make your paid search and organic search being the same in analytics?
-
It sounds like you have very little organic traffic. In fact only paid traffic. What does search console / webmaster tools say? How much traffic is being generated according to WMT's?

Does referral exclusions remove the ecommerce value from Google Analytics?
Quick question on Referral exclusions. We have a client that just rebuilt their Magento website, referral data from Paypal was never an issue, the site properly attributed to source. New web devs finished the site and all purchases through Google Analytics from PayPal Is now showing as referral traffic. Doing research on the issue the suggestion was to create a referral exclusion in GA from PayPal. My question on that, will the ecommerce value default to the previous referral or will it delete the e-commerce value completely from what is gathered?

How can I tell if I am using Universal Analytics?
On my Google Analytics page it says at the top "Upgrade to Universal Analytics Upgrade to get a deeper understanding of your users through new tools and more accurate data." Below that it talks about how to do it. I do not see what they are talking about for "Select an account and a property, then click Universal Analytics Upgrade." But if I can into my change history is shows Changed By-System Property "http://www123.com" started transfer to Universal Analytics processing." This was on May 22nd and it hasn't said anything since. Why does it keep telling me to do it if it already has? It doesn't say transfer complete anywhere so I don't know if it finished or not.

Alternative to Google Analytics
Hey Everyone, My company has just changed the order processing software we are using and it's causing some issues with Google Analytics conversion funnel tracking. Specifically, there is one point in the funnel where making certain selections (which about half the people do) causes the page to reload. Also, on the login/register page, if they miss a field, the software tells them missed the field, but loads a new page which has a different URL which is not a part of the funnel when a mistake like that isn't made. All of this is causing Google Analytics to report people as leaving the conversion funnel when they really haven't. About a third of the traffic is being shown as exiting the funnel with the exit URL being the exact same URL as the step they are supposedly exiting from (example: the visitor enters on page1, moves to page2, Google is showing that they exit on page2 and go to...page2. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to deal with this in Google Analytics? If not, do you have a recommendation of an alternative analytics program which can deal with the situations mentioned above? PS - Changing the way the checkout software works does not appear to be a viable option. Kurt Steinbrueck

Google Analytics
Hello In Google analytics you can obtain the number of visits as a result of non-paid search. You can also set up custom reports to find the number of organic searches. The numbers are different, so what is the obvious difference between these two metrics that I'm missing. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Neil

Google Analytics Options
A couple of months ago, I read about a new web stats application that is real time but more importantly let's you track user actions on a page (i.e. which buttons were clicked for example). This information would obviously be very helpful in continuing to improve site performance. Anyone have suggestions or know the name of this application? I do not mind paying but am not looking for an enterprise class application.
