Reasons for change in organic traffic year-over-year
-
Need some help in answering the concern of my client.
My client is concerned that organic visits from the 1st and 2nd quarter of 2016 are LESS than q1 & q2 of 2015. Overall there was about a 15% variance.
Basically, I am trying to explain why the 2015 quarters have more organic traffic than 2016 (over the same time frame)?
I have explained that to the client:
- There are external factors that affect SEO such an increase in competitor presence
- That we have been focusing on generating quality traffic to the site rather than just quantity
- That Google’s new SERPs layout is pushing organic rankings down
Unfortunately, my client does not believe the above points to be valid, despite the fact he is still receiving the same amount of conversions, with less traffic.
Why would his traffic be less in 2016? What else could cause this?
Any help would be appreciated so I can help him.

Are you filtering spam referrals in your Analytics data? A lot of SEOs noticed that spammy Analytics data declined significantly in the first quarter of 2016. (Unfortunately, the spam data has definitely come back over the last 2-3 months.) If you aren't filtering out spam and the site had a lot it in 2015, that might account for a 15% drop in overall traffic reported.
Your points are valid, but cover your bases to ensure there are no hidden issues. You should perform a technical audit and risk assessment of the site if you haven't done so already. Check for crawl issues, page speed, content duplication, and risky backlinks (to name a few).

Drop in Organic Traffic
Hi all, last Thursday (1/31) our organic traffic and conversions fell off the map, going from 15% of our traffic to just over 5%. We've started creeping back up, we were nearly 7% yesterday, but I'm wondering if anyone else experienced an extreme drop in traffic or any advice on what we should be doing next. We are currently building links from University and government organizations and are always creating fresh content on our blog and website pages. One thing that we thought of is this timeline corresponds with when we created a Google + local listing for our company. Is there any possibility we stopped appearing in as many national search results since we have a local listing? Our domain is www.dishcostsless.com. Any advice would be very helpful. Thank!

Title changed in local pack, unchanged in local plus?!
Google seems to have pulled the title from the homepage and put that as the title in the local pack in the SERP for my targeted keyword. The local plus page title remains unchanged. Any way to influence this back to the way it was? The local plus title looks much better in results (even though it's just the brand name (which is the same as the domain name) and not the city + industry).

Changes in Sitemap Indexation in GWT?
I've noticed some significant changes in the number and percentage of indexed URLs for the sitemaps we've been submitting to Google. I've been tracking these numbers directly from Google Webmaster Tools>Site Configuration>Sitemaps. We've made some changes that could be causing the changes we're seeing, but I want to confirm that this wasn't just a change in the way Google reports the indexation. Has anyone else noticed major changes, greater than a 30% change, in the indexation of your sitemaps in the past week? Thanks, Joe

Are you seeing changes in your sites today? Panda 2.2?
I've heard rumblings of some Panda sites recovering in the last few days and wondered if the talked about Panda 2.2 has been rolled out. My own site (which actually had a significant boost after Panda) has seen a significant increase in traffic today (started about noon EST yesterday) and a nice increase in Adsense revenue as well. How are your sites doing?
