In addition to the Beginner's Guide to SEO, I'd also suggest reading through the Beginner's Guide to Link Building. Especially if you're looking for information on off-site.
-
Yes, definitely read the beginners guide.
Okay, this is just off the top of my head about issues other than on-page content. Consider in whatever order:
-
Original choice of competitive niche. If it's too tough to compete or is so nichey there is no search traffic, you can't win no matter what you do.
-
Link profile https://moz.com/researchtools/ose/ Is the content good enough or are you in some other way able to promote quality links to your site?
-
Site architecture. How far from the homepage is any given page? Try for two pages or less.
-
Site speed (hosting + code) https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/
-
Mobile friendliness https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/
-
Google Search Console fixes/improvements (errors, indexability, html improvements, etc) https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/home?hl=en
If you have a site that is targeted to a niche that you can/should compete in (and where there is traffic), with a good link profile, constructed properly, loading fast, mobile friendly and not too broken, you ought to succeed to some degree. And then just don't forget the good on-page content!
Best of Luck! ...Mike

Hi Abie,
I would start with https://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-seo and take it from there. Good luck!

Best practice to 301 NON-WWW pages?
Hi Guys, Have a site which has 302 redirects installed for pages like: https://domain.com.au/ to https://www.domain.com.au/ (302 redirect) Is it worth changing the redirect to a 301? This is a large site, like 10,000 pages. Also does anyone know how can this be done via Magento? Cheers

Pixel tags impact on SEO?
I was asked by our IT if switching to a tag management company that removes the pixels from our site and is replaced by a javascript would have a negative impact on SEO. I have not been able to find anything that discusses this: Does anyone have experience with this? Has it caused any issues? Has it caused any issues? How do crawlers see pixel data, and what do they do with it?

Need Guidance On SEO Campaign
Hello, my website is www.mybluedish.com and I am launching an SEO campaign to increase our rankings, especially for the keyword 'satellite internet'. We used to be ranked #5 for this keyword and Google made some changes about 9 months ago that dropped us way back. We have recovered a lot back to #18 now, but have been stuck here for a while. I want to step up our SEO campaign and have come up with the following campaign. Could any SEO's please tell me if you think the following is the make up of a solid SEO campaign or if it should be adjusted? Thank you. 12 new blog articles/month 24 Articles submitted to 10 different directories each (total of 200 article directory submissions)/month 1 basic Press Release from PR.com/month 200 do follow blog comments/month 10 paid blog posts (on other people’s blogs of PR 1-5)/month

Best SEO Practices for Top-Level Navigation Structure
OK - First of all, thank you to those of you who view and take the time to answer our question. We are currently in the middle of re-designing our golf packages website, and we're trying to decide the best way to structure our Main Navigation for maximum SEO benefit while keeping user experience in mind. The top key phrases we are currently targeting: 1) Myrtle Beach Golf 2) Myrtle Beach Golf Packages You can find the current navigation structure we have come up with here: http://www.myrtlebeachsitemasters.com/index2.html So our question is this: We have subdivisions of: Golf Packages, Accommodations, Golf Courses Is it in our best interest to: A) Get rid of the subdivisions and consolidate them to one page? or B) Simply "NoFollow" the subdivisions within the Main Navigation? We are concerned about the subdivisons for 2 reasons: Too many internal links in Main Navigation The "first link only" rule with Google affecting our additional internal links on existing pages. THANK YOU again to those of you who take the time to answer this question. We really appreciate any clarification on this issue.
