Writing unique meta titles for canonicalised products or not?
-
Hi all,
I have a question (duh): I have like 10 colours of the same product. I will make one colour the canonical, do I still need to write unique meta titles for the others? I am almost certain it doesn't add value at all, but wanted to double check since I couldn't find it anywhere.
Thanks a lot in advance and have a great day!

Bernadette said it well. It won't necessarily hurt you, but user experience is very important. It's helpful to see unique information about each page in the meta when a user searches for something; that way, they know to click on your page for their search.
Also, it's a great best practice to give every page a unique meta description and title no matter what.

No, you do not need to write unique meta titles for the others. However, you may want to swap out the name of the color so that the title tag of the page reflects the page that the user is on. This is really more for 'user experience' since than for the search engines or for SEO.
For example, if someone likes one particular color, they may choose to bookmark that page in their web browser. If they bookmark it, then the title tag would appear in the title of the bookmark--so having the correct product information there (the color) would be helpful.

Combining products - edit existing product page or 301 redirect to new page?
We want to combine existing products - e.g. 'hand lotion' and 'body lotion' will become 'hand & body lotion'. As such, we'll need to combine the two product pages into one. What would be the best route to take in terms of SEO to do this? My initial reaction is to create a new product page and then 301 or 302 redirect the old products to the new product page depending on if the change is permanent or temporary. Would you agree? Or am I missing something?

Generating a meta-description
What are some things I should know before implementing a process whereby (public) user account data is used to generate a meta-description? I can't find much information in the existing forums. Are rich snippets a better option in 2015?

What should I title my homepage tab?
Our homepage tab just reads "home." Am I missing out on something with that? Should I re-write the tab to our brand name or a general descriptor? Best, Ruben

Title Tag
Is there any value in adding semantically similar words in the title tag? For instance, I have an alcohol rehab website www.alcohol-rehab.ltd.uk, I offer local search pages too. Would the title tag "Alcohol Rehab Bedfordshire | Alcoholic Rehabilitation Clinics Beds" Be more valuable than "Alcohol Rehab Clinics Bedfordshire | www.alcohol-rehab.ltd.uk" And is is worth while having the url in each title tag? Also is it worth while (seo wise) writing a description tag for each page, other than for a call to action that is?

A Lot of Duplicate Meta Descriptions
Hi Everyone Its polesandblinds.com newbie here again, I've Just been in Webmaster tools and see my site has: 278 Duplicate Meta Descriptions 13 Long Meta Descriptions 4 Short Meta Descriptions 304 Duplicate Title Tags We are Using Magento version. 1.6.0.0, It seems that our description content which is unique per page (200 to 300 words) is somehow getting put into the meta description, which I confirmed when I viewed the source code, however its not showing in the meta description boxes in magento. I would say its been like this since the re-launch of the site in December 2012. example page http://www.polesandblinds.com/curtain-tracks/ view-source:http://www.polesandblinds.com/curtain-tracks/ My BIG worry is how Google views this and what effects it may have or had on a site. My site has taken quite a big hit on rankings since the Google updates. I'm really looking forward to your responses good or bad. Many Thanks Jonathan

Duplicate Page Titles and Keywords
Still new to this SEO world, so please bear with me. I have an eCommerce site so one of the issues is duplicate content and page titles. So what I was thinking was this...for each product that I sell I have 4 or 5 keywords that I have targeted. For example for personalized iPhone cases I have decided on: iphone 4 case personalized, monogrammed iphone 4 case, personalized and monogrammed iphone case, preppy phone case, personalized iPhone case, monogrammed iPhone case For each of my products I was going to a product description (ie: trendy color block diagonal stripes) and a targeted keyword. But I was going to rotate the keywords through so as to try to avoid the duplicate page title issue. Will that help? Thanks much, Shara

Attributes vs. Separate Products?
I carry a line of products that come in 4 sizes and 15 colors. Is it better to have separate products for each combination (Red Large, Blue Small, etc), or a product for each size with attributes for the color, or something else? Also, should I put the brand name in each product name, or only put it in the category that contains that brand? Thanks.
