Facebook Like to Download and Page SEO
-
Hello, I am adding a Facebook Like to Download button for each piece of free content on my website and wondering if a feature like that would be bad for the page SEO.
-
Google might be able to read the link, but it's bots will realize soon enough that the link do not lead further to information/download page immediately on click.
-
The links are still showing in the page source code, so that would mean Google is still able to read it right?
-
Getting on the root of y our question, I don't think this would hurt your SEO directly.
the only consequences (then you'll determine if you already took them into account or not) I see are this ones:
- if you're not allowing users to see the link, it means you're blocking google too, meaning you're not getting your pdf indexed
- it would be harder for tracking purposes, as you'll have to do double click, you can still track downloads but again I think things get a bit trickier
- As Ajay correctly says, you may have issues with the Policy team in FB, as you're forcing likes to get downloads. This was already discouraged from FB to get people to follow a page in order to participate to contests. I don't think it will be huge but you ahve to take this possibility into account.
My recommendation would be that if you want people to like your site, ensure you provide them a reason for it, not just force him to do so, you want engaged likes which may return back to your site not stand alone likes that will not match your real users pool. Hope that helped.

I don't think it would be a problem unless you are messing around with site data using this as a dubious technique for getting likes.

Hi Vijay and thank you for your response. I am not actually blocking a visitor from the full page, it's just blocking them from viewing the download link. Once a visitor clicks the like button, the download links appear. Is that still bad?
-
Yes, it's not a good thing for SEO to block users and robots from going through page content without Facebook.
Sometime back Quora.com had a similar feature, wherein they would let robots crawl the content and rank their pages, however whenever a real visitor would come to the page, they would ask for sign up / sign in before proceeding further.
This created higher bounce rate , google as well found out that something is wrong and they lost ranks. They have now removed the option and give access to full page to users and bots alike.
I hope this helps, please feel free to ask further questions.
Regards,
Vijay

Social Media & SEO
Hi Does anyone have any good articles or case studies on how SEO/Social compliment each other? I know the benefits, I just need something tangible to show management, which justifies me spending more time on it. I currently do a lot of onsite SEO, but I know we're missing the content marketing/social media aspect and it's something I want to push. Any help would be great 🙂 Becky

Google + and SEO
Hello, A couple of competitors that I keep an eye on over the last couple of months have been really going for the Google + links and according to Opensite explorer they have over 200 social page metrics for Google +. I was just wondering if there has been an update that I have missed that gives follow links for Google + or does Google + affect Domain authority? And if so can I just use my own Google + account to create these social page metrics or does it depend on someone else sharing my posts? Many thanks

WordPress plugin for Facebook login and comment
I've read the WordPress reviews for several plugins that support FB login / comment, but the reviews are generally mixed. Even the plugin developed by FB received terrible reviews. Can you recommend a WP plugin that supports FB login? Best,

Is social media going to be the king of SEO?
Hi, Bit of a discussion really, every article out at the moment talking about SEO mentions how Social Media will take over in 2013. Is this really the case, should every SEO be focusing a large amount of time of Social Media? Far as im concerned I do a few things, try and build the social lists on different networks such as Facebook & Twitter also trying to get the list to engage with my posts and secondly social sharing from onsite content. Thats it at the moment.

I have a client involved in a FB like for a like scheme. This sounds unethical to me and likely against FB rules. Anyone know about this?
So they recently made me an administrator so I can add links to articles and other optimization information but they appear to be paying another agency to engage in like for a like campaign. I am very uncomfortable with it. I started noticing these weird messages from other folks on FB saying things like "I liked you page now check out mine and like it back." What are your thoughts?

Is Tumblr difficult to Optimize? Is Tumblr bad for SEO?
To All, I love Tumblr as a social media marketing tool and blogging platform, especially for niches/brands with strong visual content possibilities. But I've never had much luck in getting good rankings or even getting some pages/posts to index. I've come across many blog posts like this one: http://danzambonini.com/tumblr-seo-and-why-i-moved-to-wordpress/ But is Tumblr really bad for SEO? I mean some folks who know a lot more than me(like Wil Reynolds and Jon Cooper) run Tumblr blogs, so it can't be that bad, right? Any tips or guides on how best to optimize Tumblr blogs would be great. Thanks, Jon

How do you moderate facebook comments?
I added facebook comments to many pages on my site. Does anyone know how you can moderate (or even see) what comments have been left? If I go to facebook.com/insights for my website it tells me that I have had 15 comments this month. But, if I go to "popular pages" it shows me 1 page. If I click on that page I can see that one comment. But where are the other 14? I really like the idea that when people leave a facebook comment on my page it goes on their friends' news streams and then my site gets more exposure. But, if I can't moderate my comments that would not be good!
