January 2013 Google update affected my projects ?
-
I am running 400+ projects. Mostly all projects keyword rank has been effected recently. IS there any new update from google between 10-19 January 2013 ?

This seems more of a link algorithm with a mix of keyword rich urls update.
We also track around 20,000 keywords on a weekly basis and can see a big flux. This seems more like Google devaluating some of the backlinks or sites in masses which is causing this.
There is no specific pattern which we can see. It seems more of the small business websites getting hit than the Brands.
But again too early to single out specific reasons.

I agree Marie it the wrong date and from what i have seen it has impacted too many sites in the UK8% of more than the 1.8%V mentioned in the tweet. Nearly all the verticals and niches we track have had changes in rankings and some very odd results. A search like UK VPN In google.co.uk has seen a number of service providers replaced with details of UK University VPN services and even the University of Kentucky in the top 20 results. I can't for the life of me see how those results would match the broad intent of the search.

Google did refresh Panda today (the 22 of Jan) but this would not have caused the traffic drop between Jan 10th and 19th that the OP had.
-
Google confirms it as Panda. More details over here- http://searchengineland.com/google-panda-update-version-24-1-2-of-search-queries-impacted-146149

Regardless of what Google officially says, there is/ was an update around 17 Jan 2013. We track 50,000+ keywords on weekly basis and we saw 6x times SERP movement than we see every week.
For us, this was bigger than Penguin or Panda. Would take some time for rankings to stabilise after which there can be some consensus as to what happened.
Marie - thanks for sharing the link. I kind of agree with you that google will use the disavow tool data. But knowing google, I don't think they will do manual checking for more than 1000 sites? They can simply calculate top 1000 domains disavowed across all disavow requests and then use that data ? But I think that update will come in future. This looks like a version or penguin ?

There has been no official word from Google about an update. A lot of people have been grumbling in the forums however about something going on. When Barry from SERoundtable commented on this Google stated that there was no major update but that the algorithm is always changing.
There is also speculation from the team at Branded3 (see this post - http://www.branded3.com/blogs/google-moves-towards-continual-link-devaluation/ that Google may be changing how they detect bad links. If I understand it right, the idea is that instead of devaluing bad links in bunches every time Penguin refreshes, Google is devaluing bad links as they crawl.
I have another theory. I am wondering if Google is starting to put into use the information they are getting from the disavow tool. So, let's say that a whole pile of websites have included spammyarticles.com in their disavow.txt file. Google evaluates the site and decides that it only exists to provide spammy backlinks and as such devalues all links that are coming from this site. I have no proof for this, but it's a possibility.

I noticed some changes on Monday and the Google dance seems to have been going on ever since. Some keywords are changing positions by the hour. Agree with Ask Hopper than it will be a few weeks before it settles but it looks like a link based issue.

Have a watch of this video from Barry Schwartz and you will see many have found this but nothing has been announced.

Hi Yes updates to the algorithm are in progress right now and ongoing, I would suspect that it is going to take few weeks now to settle down before you get any real information on your actual page positions for your keywords and phrases.

Google not detecting Hreflang
Hey everybody, We recently migrated our .co.uk to .com/en. Google for some reason is saying that the .com/en version has no hfrelang tags - even though they are clearly there and have had the same implementation as other language versions of the website. We also did a previous migration 6 months ago for the german version of our website and no hreflang problems there. We add our hreflang tags to our sitemap - which you can find here:

Could the EMD update affect my domain?
My domain is: http://www.freescrabbledictionary.com/ "Scrabble Dictionary" is a huge keyword in my niche where I used to rank top 4. Do you see this domain as possibly being hit by the EMD? My Google Analytics does not show that I was initially hit back in Sept 2012 when it first same out.

What's going on with google index - javascript and google bot
Hi all, Weird issue with one of my websites. The website URL: http://www.athletictrainers.myindustrytracker.com/ Let's take 2 diffrenet article pages from this website: 1st: http://www.athletictrainers.myindustrytracker.com/en/article/71232/ As you can see the page is indexed correctly on google: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:dfbzhHkl5K4J:www.athletictrainers.myindustrytracker.com/en/article/71232/10-minute-core-and-cardio&hl=en&strip=1 (that the "text only" version, indexed on May 19th) 2nd: http://www.athletictrainers.myindustrytracker.com/en/article/69811 As you can see the page isn't indexed correctly on google: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:KeU6-oViFkgJ:www.athletictrainers.myindustrytracker.com/en/article/69811&hl=en&strip=1 (that the "text only" version, indexed on May 21th) They both have the same code, and about the dates, there are pages that indexed before the 19th and they also problematic. Google can't read the content, he can read it when he wants to. Can you think what is the problem with that? I know that google can read JS and crawl our pages correctly, but it happens only with few pages and not all of them (as you can see above).

I disappeared from Google, but not Bing?
A few weeks ago the company I work for created a website called Nabceptraining.com in hopes to find clientele who are looking to become NABCEP Certified. So we installed WordPress and a nice looking theme that we edited, and we saw that without any real content on the page we were already rank 12 on Google! We never even submitted our site. So we decided to Search Engine Optimize our website to gain even better rankings. So on the first day we added an SEO Tool that would allow us to change the page titles and descriptions on our site, a Sitemap generation tool so we could submit the site to Google, Bing, and Yahoo. At the end of the day we submitted the site and was beginning to create our content. That next morning our ranking was gone and we were not to be found on Google, but we were rank 3 on Bing!? What happened? Why did we disappear? We didn't receive any messages from Google on the webmaster tools saying we were blacklisted. Does anyone have an idea?

Example of Google Indexing my Feedburner Links
As you can see, there are 2 results for the same page. One is the correct page URL, the other has the Feedburner parameters at the end: http://www.thewebhostinghero.com/articles/improving-user-engagement-with-the-right-blog-commenting-system.html http://www.thewebhostinghero.com/articles/improving-user-engagement-with-the-right-blog-commenting-system.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+thewebhostinghero+(TheWebHostingHero.com) Can this cause duplicate content issues? Can I prevent Google from indexing my Feedburner links? My Feedburner settings are already set to noindex, what else can I do?!? 22cfThX.png

UK website ranking higher in Google.com than Google.co.uk
Hi, I have a UK website which was formerly ranked 1st in Google.co.uk and .com for my keyword phrase and has recently slipped to 6th in .co.uk but is higher in position 4 in Google.com. I have conducted a little research and can’t say for certain but I wonder if it is possible that too many of my backlinks are US based and therefore Google thinks my website is also US based. Checked Google WmT and we the geo-targeted to the UK. Our server is also UK based. Does anyone have an opinion on this? Thanks

Google places listing gone crazy
I have a google places listing that was doing great and was consantly on the top 3 for most of it's keywords. About 3 weeks ago google declined my listing (it was on the same account with other listings that violated google guidelines). The listing still showed up on google while it being reviewed (i assumed that it because this listing didn't violate an guideline.) About a week ago google started showing reviews from Insiderpages with my listing that belonged to a competitor. Today, they fixed that and added a link to my right insiderpages page but weird things started to happen.... My listing started to appear as a NON VERIFIED liting. My website is no longer on the listing. The phone number listed on the listing belong to a competitor!! All the citations are still mine including one from my site! Should i report it to google? i'm hesitating to do so, we are loosing a lot of business as it is with most of our listings down and i'm afraid this might be a small error that if i'll address will take longer to solve. My listing link: http://maps.google.com/maps/place?um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=appliance+repair+nyc&fb=1&gl=us&hq=appliance+repair&hnear=0x89c24fa5d33f083b:0xc80b8f06e177fe62,New+York,+NY&cid=14321731230878083852&ei=01AXTum3J4mmsQKl_KxS&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=placepage-link&resnum=9&ved=0CJ0BEOIJMAg Thanks!!
