Google Webmaster Tools is saying "Sitemap contains urls which are blocked by robots.txt" after Https move...
-
Hi Everyone,
I really don't see anything wrong with our robots.txt file after our https move that just happened, but Google says all URLs are blocked. The only change I know we need to make is changing the sitemap url to https. Anything you all see wrong with this robots.txt file?
robots.txt
This file is to prevent the crawling and indexing of certain parts
of your site by web crawlers and spiders run by sites like Yahoo!
and Google. By telling these "robots" where not to go on your site,
you save bandwidth and server resources.
This file will be ignored unless it is at the root of your host:
Used: http://example.com/robots.txt
Ignored: http://example.com/site/robots.txt

Thanks again for the response. Looks like it just took a little more time for Google to resolve the issue. No more errors. Didn't do anything but resubmit Sitemap and Robots.txt.
Thanks for the tips as well. I am going to post one more question in another thread.

Jeff,
I was only able to find only ONE URL in the sitemap that is blocked by the robots.txt that you've posted in this question.
Check the image attached.
The URL is: https://www.bestpricenutrition.com/catalog/product/view/id/15650.htmlWhat did I do? A manual search of all the disallowed terms in the sitemap.
Also, you might want to take a comprehensive read at this article about robots.txt. It helped me to find that mistake.

Thanks for the quick response.

Yes...Google Webmaster Tools is giving examples...and they are basically all the product pages.
-
Did the Add Site under Google Webmaster Tools yes...this is from that new 'account'.
-
Yes...we are fixing that.
You see anything in that robots.text above that would indicate we are blocking https product pages?

Hello Jeff,
Just some routine questions to establish a base line:
- Have you checked that the sitemap doesnt include any of the disallowed URLs?
- You said that there was a movement to HTTPS, have you created a new account for the new domain?
- Im seing that the robots.txt has the old URL for the sitemap, without the HTTPS correction.
Let me know.

I'm struggling to understand (and fix) why I'm getting a 404 error. The URL includes this "%5Bnull%20id=43484%5D" but I cannot find that anywhere in the referring URL. Does anyone know why please? Thanks
Can you help with how to fix this 404 error please? It appears that I have a redirect from one page to the other, although the referring page URL works, but it appears to be linking to another URL with this code at the end of the the URL - %5Bnull%20id=43484%5D that I'm struggling to find and fix. Thanks

Which product URL to include in Sitemaps?
Hi Does the product URL's in Sitemaps affect the sub-categories authority too? For example, if I have a product with 2 URL's and which have a canonical tag: **/brands/michael-kors/bags/**jet-set-double-zip-wallet/ **/women/accessories/wallets/**jet-set-double-zip-wallet/ If I make the main URL "/women/accessories/wallets/jet-set-double-zip-wallet/" and set that as the Canonical URL & list that URL in the XML Sitemap, will it also mean the "/women/accessories/wallets/" category will get more authority and increase it's power to rank? Thanks Frankie

What are the negative implications of listing URLs in a sitemap that are then blocked in the robots.txt?
In running a crawl of a client's site I can see several URLs listed in the sitemap that are then blocked in the robots.txt file. Other than perhaps using up crawl budget, are there any other negative implications?

How do I get my pages to go from "Submitted" to "Indexed" in Google Webmaster Tools?
Background: I recently launched a new site and it's performing much better than the old site in terms of bounce rate, page view, pages per session, session duration, and conversions. As suspected, sessions, users, and % new sessions are all down. Which I'm okay with because the the old site had a lot of low quality traffic going to it. The traffic we have now is much more engaged and targeted. Lastly, the site was built using Squarespace and was launched the middle of August. **Question: **When reviewing Google Webmaster Tools' Sitemaps section, I noticed it says 57 web pages Submitted, but only 5 Indexed! The sitemap that's submitted seems to be all there. I'm not sure if this is a Squarespace thing or what. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!!

Google insists robots.txt is blocking... but it isn't.
I recently launched a new website. During development, I'd enabled the option in WordPress to prevent search engines from indexing the site. When the site went public (over 24 hours ago), I cleared that option. At that point, I added a specific robots.txt file that only disallowed a couple directories of files. You can view the robots.txt at http://photogeardeals.com/robots.txt Google (via Webmaster tools) is insisting that my robots.txt file contains a "Disallow: /" on line 2 and that it's preventing Google from indexing the site and preventing me from submitting a sitemap. These errors are showing both in the sitemap section of Webmaster tools as well as the Blocked URLs section. Bing's webmaster tools are able to read the site and sitemap just fine. Any idea why Google insists I'm disallowing everything even after telling it to re-fetch?

Google webmaster tools says access denied for 77 urls
Hi i am looking in google webmaster tools and i have seen a major problem which i hope people can help me sort out. The problem is, i am being told that 77 urls are being denied access. The message when i look for more information says the below Googlebot couldn't crawl your URL because your server either requires login to access the page, or is blocking Googlebot from accessing your site. the responce code is 403 here is a couple of examples http://www.in2town.co.uk/Entertainment-Magazine http://www.in2town.co.uk/Weight-Loss-Hypnotherapy-helped-woman-lose-3-stone i think the problem could be that i have sent them to another url in my httaccess file using the 403 re-direct but why would it bring up that google bot could not crawl them any help would be great

How to remove crawl errors in google webmaster tools
In my webmaster tools account it says that I have almost 8000 crawl errors. Most of which are http 403 errors The urls are http://legendzelda.net/forums/index.php?app=members§ion=friends&module=profile&do=remove&member_id=224 http://legendzelda.net/forums/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=166 And similar urls. I recently blocked crawl access to my members folder to remove duplicate errors but not sure how i can block access to these kinds of urls since its not really a folder thing. Any idea on how to?
