Outbound links
-
We are working with a large, global customer that has asked us to link to their website from about 5,000 pages of our website. The links would either point to one page on their website, or they would point to specific pages throughout their website.
Is this a bad thing from an SEO perspective, as in - would either of us be penalized from search engines for doing this?

Both great answers - thank you Sean and Brighton College.
This just confirms my suspicion that it's not a good idea. You know that sickening feeling you get in your stomach when something doesn't feel right? That's the feeling I got when approached from our customer about doing this. I think that gut instinct as Sean alludes to has a lot of truth in SEO.
I agree with both of you on "it's better to have a few good outbound links" and "the more inbound quality links vs outbound, the better."
Thank you!

If it is a Wordpress site (or something similar) with a link in the "blogroll" for example, I don't think either would be in deep trouble, but it might decrease your rankings. TIn the situation I described, it is acommon practice and is natural. However, it wouldn't help them too much as all the links come from one site. I would not recommend it though, you do not want a high number of outbound links. Google might think its a directory or something similar and decrease your rankings. Ideally you want a higher number of inbound links than outbound links.
Hope that helps

It is not a good idea to link to one page or one site from every page of your site, these 5,000 links will not give them much if any benefit and it may harm them.
If you are in related industries they would probably be better off getting a few links from you from a few pages that are best suited to be linking to pages on their site.
Linking to another site should only be done if you can justify it by asking yourself if your visitors would be interested in the content of the page you are linking to.
I hope this helps
Sean

Link Value
My question is how valuable is getting a link from a PA 71 with roughly 20 links on it. I guess I am saying how many links from a PA of 30 would be a comparable indicator. I understand there is an almost exponential value of authority as they go higher, but I am looking for a good explanation from a technical aspect. Hypothetical Scenario Would a person be better off pursing 20 links from PA25 pages, or would you be better only getting 1 from the PA71 all things equal.

Why Links from Top Level Domains doesn't Pass Link Equity?
Hello, I have a doubt about Equity-Passing links report of OpensiteExplorer.org According to Sam Weber http://moz.com/community/users/432678 links which pass value from one page to another including followed 301 and Meta refresh links are under Equity-Passing links. I am surprising after looking at the links report generated by opensiteexplorer.org. Most of the article and directory links which have low DA and PA are under Equity-Passing links. Whereas websites like EzineArticle or Articlebase which have good DA and PA are not found in either Equity-passing links or under only nofollow category. Please suggest me if the report of Opensiteexplorer is not good enough or the links from the site like Ezine Article doesn’t pass the link equity. Thanks.

No Follow Links
On my campaign report from SEOmoz I have noticed that all my 3 competitors have 99% followed links versus 1% no-followed links. Should I do the same? How can I check were are the no-follow links on my site? I have found some tool online but it shows me that there are only 2 no-follow links on my website which are both www.cloudflare.com while SEOmoz report shows me that I have 1031...where can i view this links?

Internal Linking Structure
I have a question about internal linking. I am trying to rank for the term 'entertainment agent' and wonder wether I should go through my blog posts (50 or so) and link the words 'entertainment agent' to my homepage which is optomised for the keyword. Will that add any SEO value? Should I be directing any 'link juice' from my blog posts to the main pages I want to rank or will that look unnatural?

Where are all the sites that are linking to me?
I need to compile a list of all the siters linking to my site, but my open site explorer analysis shows very few links. I know for certain that there are many many more sites linking to it (it's an academic site and there are links to it from a lot of academic directories). What am I doing wrong?

Reciprocal Link Exchanges?
I have a spanky new website with absolutely no incoming links at all. Someone suggested a link exchange site (LinkMarket.com). But I thought that doing reciprocal links was being penalized by Google. Does anyone know if link exchange works, and if so, what the best link exchange sites are? Thanks, Dan
