How to arrange taxonomies when many mean the same thing?
-
Hello
I'm trying to figure out the category/taxonomy structure for my website which will be selling "Colored Contact Lenses"
I'm a bit confused because, there are several search queries which sort of mean the same thing, for example "Halloween Contacts" are sort of the same thing as "Colored Contacts" people searching for Colored Contacts may potentially be looking for "Natural" styles, however many are looking for crazy styles, aka "Halloween Contacts" or "Crazy Contacts" Crazy contacts and halloween contacts, being the exact same thing just different choice of words from the searcher.
So I'm trying to think of what to do for categories/link structure... I believe i should start with a primary category .com/colored-contacts/ then .com/colored-contacts/halloween-contacts/
But what about crazy contacts? Should I keep going, .com/colored-contacts/crazy-contacts/ which will have the exact same products listed?
I'm kind if going crazy thinking about this lol, any thoughts and advice would be highly appreciated.
Thank you!

I agree with Andy, except that I would set the categories and the navigation bar for usability over pleasing the search engines. Blasphemy, I know on an SEO Q&A forum. Seriously, though, your #1 goal is to keep it as simple and uncomplicated as possible for users to find your products. SEO aids that, but it is not the goal in and of itself. The goal is more clients/sales/users.
If you haven't done this already, put your categories/navigation sections on 3x5 cards or sticky notes, and then arrange them on a table or wall. Cross-reference the navigation words you are using with the search terms by which people look for this product to make sure they are user-friendly
What taxonomy works and would make sense to your users in terms of getting to your products the easiest and fastest? Then use that one.
A complicated taxonomy that makes sense to robots but not to people will increase your bounce rates and not your sales. So...go for the users.

Hi,
There are many ways to do this depending on your site and structure.
Are you doing this to try and get the additional phrases into Google, or for usability once someone lands on your site? If you are doing it for Google, you will want to avoid duplication of pages based on naming / keyword conventions and try not to create lots of pages that only have the basics to differentiate them.

Will a blog post about a collection of useful tools and web resources for a specific niche being seen as negative by google for too many links?
SEO newbie here, I'm thinking about creating a blog post about a collection of useful tools and web resources for my specific niche. It'd be 300 links or more, but with comments, and categorized nicely. It'd be a useful resource for my target audience to bookmark, and share. Will google see this as a negative? If so, what's the best way to do such a blog post? Thanks

So many internal links to the same page
Hey guyz,
Technical SEO | | atakala
I'm working with a client that has a page which has many internal links to the same page .
Let me illustrate it.
So as you can see I have a page which is called in the image "page" :D.
As you can see, the **page **has many links to the solutions.htmls' anchor links which mean they are basically the same page ( solutions.html)
Is it going to be a problem for us to do that ?
And is there anyway to handle this problem?
Thank you for you patience. And sorry for my bad english 😄 4deRc1W.png0 -
Nginx vs. Apache, All Things Considered
Hey Peeps, I've been struggling lately with a new static site, and I'm looking for anyone's opinion who's had to optimize a site using Nginx. I understand that Nginx is recommended for static sites, however I want to avoid being in a situation where I can't do things like write redirect rules the way I want to. Considering that it will be hosting a Static site, are there any features or functions that Nginx lacks when compared to Apache, such as ability to write rewrite rules, etc.?

New Title and Desciptions on page is visible does that mean index postion is also
Hi, I have a question, Suppose I change some content on my web page, i.e. Title, Description, some body text. And then several days later I see this changes have been reflected within the contents displayed to me when I do a google search. I also notice that at the same time that these contents have been displayed to me that the position of my site has either dropped or increased by several positions. Is it a reasonable assumption to attribute the position change to the changes I made on the webpage or is there usually a delay in position movement upon changes visibly being displayed? Thanks,

How to move many domains form an address to another?
We need to move a site from a domain to another one, and there are also hundreds or even thousands of subdomains to move. What would be the best practise to do it in order to save at least some of the visibility in search results?

Too many 301s?
Hi there, If there is a website that has accidently generated say 1,000 pages of duplicate content, would the seo be hurt if all those pages were re-directed to the origional source of the content? There are no plans to re-write the 1,000 duplicate pages, they are already cached and indexed by Google. I thought about canonical tags but as they have some traffic and a little seo value i thought 301 re-direct would be more appropiate to the relevant pages? I am also right in thinking you would be able to remove the 301 in the .htaccess file once the index has updated? Also once removed the 301 - i could use those urls later from scratch if i wanted? Any info much appreciated.
