Is Search Visibility actually weighted by search volume at all? Everyone seems to think so, but that seems completely wrong?
-
As I've been exploring Moz more, I've been looking into search visibility and what it actually represents. While searching for answers on Moz, I've seen several posts that all seem to think the search volume for keywords matters at all for the search visibility metric, and I'm wondering why anyone thinks that, when everything from Moz seems to indicate otherwise.
https://moz.com/help/guides/moz-pro-overview/rankings/search-visibility describes the calculation as taking the CTR for each keyword, based on rank, summing those, and dividing by the number of keywords. This describes a simple, and completely unweighted by search volume, average.
This means that if you are tracking 10 keywords, and rank #1 on 5 that have a search volume of 0-10, and are unranked on 5 that have a search volume of 70,801-118,000, that would generate exactly the same search visibility score as if you rank #1 on the 5 high volume, and are unranked on the 5 low volume.
The above all makes search visibility look like a much less valuable metric than if it were appropriately weighted by volume, as well as potentially very misleading, since the % relates solely to the number of keywords in your analyzed segment, rather than to the % of search volume that you're obtaining (unless a) all of your keywords are the same rank, or b) all of your keywords have the same volume).
Am I missing something, or is everyone just giving Moz way too much credit when it comes to the value of the search visibility metric?

If the question is about the "visibility" of a page for a specific keyword then visibility does not need to be weighted by volume. But, if you are asking about the visibility of a page or a website for a basket of keywords, expressed as a single number, then keyword query volume becomes important.

Visibility is one of those metrics where the method of calculation varies from tool to tool. So maybe people are talking about a visibility score other than the one you linked to.
Some tools show visibility score as a whole number, then search volume matters. TBH, from the article you've linked to it seems more like a CTR metric, not Visibility, but that's my biased opinion as I'm used to whole numbers.

How do you run ranks now for clients that aren't in your local area now that Google customizes search results based on location?
How do you run ranks now for clients that aren't in your local area now that Google customizes search results based on location? What tool/service have you found that gives accurate rank results? To me it seems like there is no guaranteed global #1position any more, or is this the situation for only certain types of searches? Likewise how can anyone tool give a global accurate rank score?

How to run down the actual source of a 404 error that is reported.
In my 404 errors, the second entry is as follows: URL: http://www.virginiahomesandforeclosures.com/listing/0428387-lot-k-commerce-park-franklin-va-23851/REWIDX_URL_CDNimg/no-image.gif Is there a simple way to find the root or page in which this error was generated? IF I visit this page " http://www.virginiahomesandforeclosures.com/listing/0428387-lot-k-commerce-park-franklin-va-23851" without the attached gobble de gook, I see a good page. So bottom line its possible it could be in one of my sitemaps, but I have 50 of those so its time consuming to search thru all 50 for each error like this since I have so many. I am pretty sure its not in my sitemaps, since google has not picked up any of these errors and they have crawled over 12,000 urls so far. When google gives me a 404 error I can click on the link and find what pages they found the link and go there and correct it at the root. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have more than 1,000 of these errors with the bad url with the junk attached to the end and have not been able to isolate the cause yet. Thanks in advance.

Link from Dr. Oz web site not being seen, what are we doing wrong?
Newbie so this may be SEO 101... Quick back story: My wife Lauri is a Dream Expert who has been on over 5,000 radio shows, TV shows like Good Morning America, the Today show, the View, in major magazines and newspapers, the list goes on and on, I'm not bragging actually the opposite. Lauri barely exists online and to top it off we don't seem to be getting any "link juice" from some big sites that have linked to us. Here is just one example of many: Our site: theDreamZone.com Here is a page on Dr Oz site that links to us, anchor text at top right "Click here": When you use On site Explorer this link isn't there, what are we doing wrong? Our plan is to build a new site (LauriTheDreamExpert.com) and get these links and many others pointing to us correctly so she can get the exposure she's earned. Lauri was also on the Dr Oz TV show : Watch it if you like. Thanks for any wisdom, Mike

Local search block seems to mess up ranking calculations!
Time and time again i see SEO moz come out with a new rankings report and tell me that I've gone up or down in the rankings by 9 and I get really excited. Then i go look at the search and once agian we are in the exact same position! What it seems like is sometimes SEO Moz decides to count the local search block, and other times it decides not too. Is there any way to fix this? To make it always count the local search block would be preferred.

Can I see search volumes against my keywords?
I love the keyword tracker tool on SEO Moz. However I can't work out how to see search volumes for each keyword. So while I know how I am ranking for each keyword.....I have to open a separate spreadsheet to see the local Google Monthly search volumes and then cross-refer the two, which is clumsy and time-consuming. Is there a way to amalgamate the two? It seems like such a major flaw that i'm sure its there, I can't work it out. Thanks all, Dan

Crawl complete, but nothing changed?
Hi everyone, According to my account, the crawl diagnostics were completed yesterday. However, the duplicate page titles that it mentions aren't correct. The changes that I implemented several days ago are not being shown in the report. When I click the duplicate page title links, the latest date in the graph is 3/26. However, it says the crawl was completed on 3/30. Does it take a few days for the reports to match what the crawl actually discovered?

Ranking reports don't seem to match reality
seomoz shows our site at #1 for a keyword that we're actuallly #2 we seem to rank #2 even when I disable personalization (setting URL token) or using incognito mode on chrome. Any insight on how seomoz verifies these ranks, and if I can place credibility in them?
