Link Building for Ecommerce

I need help - I'm trying to boost the rankings of a competitive category page - Leather Office Chairs
First I'm thinking I need earned links - but for something like leather office chairs thinking of interesting, unique content people would love to read & share is proving difficult.
I am struggling - can anyone help?!

Here's a good guide from moz on this topic. https://moz.com/learn/seo/search-operators

Hi
This is actually what I've been working on for the past few weeks, health implications of poor office chairs - stats to back this up in an infographic & a couple of articles to support this. & why you need an ergonomic workspace.
Then as we have a new school chair range, I've done one on back pain in children & the health implications.
Thank you for your other tips! We have a lot of ranges which I find really hard to be creative for - e.g. cupboards.
Most of these blogs also charge to put content on their site & I know Google is against this - what is everyones view on that?
Just need a bit of inspiration!

Run queries in google to see what your competitors are doing. Find articles that help with inspiriation, and then write a better, unique version to help bring additional value to the customer.
An example query I just tried real quick was
- "leather office chairs" inurl:blog

I believe that a retail site should have an article library where there are articles about how to select the proper product, how to use it, how to maintain it, how to enjoy it, history about the product, trivia about the product, and many other topics.
The decisions about what type of content should exist in this library are guided by the customer questions that you receive every day. As the library grows it answers more and more customer questions and this reduces your need to respond to questions by email. Many people find the answer in your library and don't need to ask you. Many people don't know about your library and write and you respond with a couple of links to library articles instead of composing a lengthy reply.
Your customer service people are already being asked these questions, they are probably already writing replies or they are answering the questions by phone every day. If you have customer service people who know more about your product than anyone else on the planet then they can be your source for the content that you need. But, if your customer service people don't know anything about the product and can't answer these questions, then you should do something about that so they can do a better job. Then they will become your source for the content that you need
If you are serious about doing a good job in your space, having customer service people who can help the customers, then you will have a program in place to educate them about your products. On the basis of the above, every retail site should have a growing content library.
However, the most powerful site in the retail SERPs is going to be an information site with a small store.

Infographics are always a good place to start, sharing them on social media and e-shots. Blogging is a key way though, we face the same trouble of having to write content for products that don't gain many links however you can always be a little more creative with the blogs. We published an article on our PVC strip curtain range featuring in movies and tv shows and simply published it on social media, unique and fun but also breaks up the salesy blog posts too! Perhaps take a look at health and wellbeing blogs/websites and try to work with them to create a post on comfort in the workplace? (office chairs encouraging good posture and avoiding back pain, etc). Infographics can be created to be small help/info guides like top 10 products in office/spend vs splurge on office equipment etc. I think content/blogs are the best bet to gain links to a product page but it'll take a bit of brainstorming to come up with new and unique ideas - start your thought process with 1) what blogs are published about this product 2) what do my competitors do 3) what do my customers want (key questions asked on google) 4) how can i make this interesting and creative.
Hope this helps!

Hi
Haha very true. You have some great ideas, I definitely need to think outside of the box and spend more time on research - I just feel sometimes when I'm researching I'm not spending time on things like onsite optimisation. Now our team is bigger, I should be able to pass some of this work on.
You'd suggest setting up a new blog to do this though? And not on our own blog? Alternatively, could we get articles like this put on other relevant blogs?
Thanks!

Disavow links established in 2009??
Sorry for the length, but I believe this is an interesting situation, so hopefully you'll enjoy thinking this one over a little. Thanks for taking the time! Historical Information We’ve owned and operated printglobe.com since 2002. In late 2009, we acquired absorbentprinting.com and operated both sites until Mar, 2015, when absorbentprinting.com was redirected to printglobe.com. The reason we chose to redirect absorbentprinting.com to printglobe.com is that they were same industry, same pricing, and had a lot of product overlap, although they did have unique product and category descriptions. We saw a long and steady decline in organic traffic to absorbentprinting.com in the last couple of years leading up to the decision to redirect. By the way, while I understand the basics of SEO, neither I nor anyone else at our company could be considered an SEO practitioner. Recent Information An SEO firm we used to be engaged with us reached back out to us and noted: “I started looking through your backlink and it looks like there has been a sharp increase of referring domains.” They included a graph that does show a dramatic increase, starting around November, 2015. It’s quite dramatic and appears anything but natural. The contact from the SEO firm went on to say: “After doing a cursory review, it looks like a handful of these new links are the type we would recommend disavowing or removing.” We do little in the way of “link building” and we’re in a relatively boring industry, so we don’t naturally garner a lot of links. Our first thought was that we were the victim of a negative SEO attack. However, upon spot checking a lot of the recent domains linking to us, I discovered that a large % of the links that had first shown up in AHREFS since November are links that were left as comments on forums, mostly in 2009/2010. Since absorbentprinting.com was redirected to printglobe.com in Mar, 2015, I have no idea why they are just now beginning to show up as links to printglobe.com. By the numbers, according to a recent download from AHREFS: Total # of backlinks to printglobe.com through mid-Feb, 2016: 8,679 of backlinks “first seen” November, 2015 or later: 5,433 Note that there were hundreds of links “first seen” in the months from Mar, 2015 to Oct, 2015, but the # “first seen” from November, 2015 to now has been 1,500 or greater each full month. Total # of linking domains through mid-Feb, 2016: 1,182 of linking domains first seen November, 2015 or later: 850 Also note that the links contain good anchor text distribution Finally, there was a backlink analysis done on absorbentprinting.com in April, 2013 by the same firm who pointed out the sharp increase in links. At that time, it was determined that the backlink profile of absorbentprinting.com was normal, and did not require any actions to disavow links or otherwise clean up the backlinks. My Questions: If you’ve gotten through all that, how important does it seem to disavow links now? How urgent? I’ve heard that disavowing links should be a rare undertaking. If this is so, what would you think of the idea of us disavowing everything or almost everything “first seen” Nov, 2015 and later? Is there a way to disavow at the linking domain level, rather than link-by-link to reduce the number of entries, or does it have to be done for each individual link? If we disavow around 5.5k links since Nov, 2015, what is the potential for doing more harm than good? If we’re seeing declining organic traffic in the past year on printglobe.com pretty much for the first time in the site’s history, can we attribute that to the links? Anything else you’d advise a guy who’s never disavowed a link before on this situation? Thanks for any insights! Rob

Ecommerce - Product Titles
Hi I want to find out how ecommerce sites optimise their product names: 1. When they have thousands of products 2. When some of their products are identical I notice on some sites, like this for example, they have no key phrases in their product titles http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6249346.htm How can this help for SEO? At the moment we optimise the titles as best we can for key phrases relevant to the products and differentiating attributes. Where we get stuck is, if their are 2 identical products - how can the content team quickly add a title which is useful for customers and search engines? Some products have no differences for us, but longer tail phrases are where we could get some good returns if the research is put in - it's just very labour intensive. Thank you

OSE link report showing links to 404 pages on my site
I did a link analysis on this site mormonwiki.com. And many of the pages shown to be linked to were pages like these http://www.mormonwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Planning_a_trip_to_Rome_By_using_Movie_theatre_-_Your_five_Fun_Shows2052752 There happens to be thousands of them and these pages actually no longer exist but the links to them obviously still do. I am planning to proceed by disavowing these links to the pages that don't exist. Does anyone see any reason to not do this, or that doing this would be unnecessary? Another issue is that Google is not really crawling this site, in WMT they are reporting to have not crawled a single URL on the site. Does anyone think the above issue would have something to do with this? And/or would you have any insight on how to remedy it?

Links with Parameters
The links from the home page to some internal pages on my site have been coded in the following format by my tech guys: www.abc.com/tools/page.html?hpint_id=xyz If I specify within my Google Webmaster tools that the parameter ?hpint_id should be ignored and content for the user does not change, Will Google credit me for a link from the home page or am I losing something here. Many thanks in advance

First link importance in the content
Hi, have you guys an opinion on this point, mentioned by Matt Cutts in 2010 : Matt made a point to mention that users are more likely to click on the first link in an article as opposed to a link at the bottom of the article. He said put your most important links at the top of the article. I believe it was Matt hinting to SEOs about this. http://searchengineland.com/key-takeaways-from-googles-matt-cutts-talk-at-pubcon-55457 I've asked this in private and Michael Cottam told me he read a study a year ago that indicated that the link juice passed to other pages diminished the further down the page you go. But he can't find it anymore ! Do you remember this study and have the link ? What is your opinion on Matt's point ?

Link equity of ifram
If I link an iframe to pull its content - does that count as inbound link for the iframed content? Am I passing linklove to that page? I am on x.com and have an iframe pull content from z.com. Does this give linklove from x to z.com? (I am NOT asking if the z context is indexed in x, although I am weary to follow the most frequent statement that they do not. Google states that they will try to pull the content from the iframe, but don't guarantee it.)

Link Request Email on Site`s Link Pages
Hello I have assembled a list of web-sites that have "Links" section that has a list of persons` favorite tools. Those pages have a link to my competitor. I know my tool is just as good if not better and want to request a link. I`m thinking of sending an email asking for a link and offering a small amount of money for it. Questions: A) How much should I offer? Should I offer anything at all B) Is there an email style that someone can suggest that has been tested and proven to work for this type of situtation?
