Link Exchange

Is link exchange always bad? What if I want to add a link for other related products on my site which I do not offer, and the other site does the same for me?
Will it be better to rather an article for each other product and link to somebody, than have one page with a list of other products to other sites.
For example. We do training. Lets say we offer computer training. We search companies that does health and safety training offer to put their course on our site with a link to them, if they do the same.

Hi,
A few reciprocal links shouldn't be a problem but I'd only do them if it makes sense from a human point of view and if it adds something for the users of your site. Put them in the place on your site that makes the most sense. A fishing gear shop may well link to fishing books and that would make sense.
It's nice to be able to send traffic to another site that also send relevant traffic to you.
Lots of reciprocal links and links that are done for perceived SEO purposes (and not for the users of your site) should be avoided.
A link to another site could come across as endorsing it so make sure you are hooking up with reputable companies that you know and trust, not just ones that rank well.

Link exchange is not always bad. It is normal that all sites do have some reciprocal links. Just don't over do it. Remember to maintain the natural link diversity.
And about the placement of the links, my recommendation would be to plan it for the user. So whatever feels most natural and useful for the user. Maybe it would be a good idea to make an article about other companies that do health and safety training and tell there shortly about each training. Plain link lists are usually boring/useless for the user and search engines don't value them either.

Inbound Spam Links
We've held Local listings at "A" for over a year. 2 weeks ago we dropped down to below the fold. I ran several reports and our backlink report shows roughly over 10,000 and it's growing every day along with new domain referrals with inbound spam links all using the same core anchor text term. One domain is responsible for over 2,000. These sites have Nothing to do with our industry and several in foreign languages. All these links are "NoFollow". My question is. Although "nofollow" is known to protect you, I'm wondering with over 10,000 of them coming from 345 sites, ALL using our one core term as an anchor text has red flagged us? If so,I'm planning on using Google disavow at the "domain" level. We are a local resort and until this happened we only had around 15 referral sites that are industry related. Hotels.com type sites and local tourist related sites. These new inbound spam links are so blatant and yes they're "nofollow", but I'm starting to wonder IF this off the wall inbound spam link pattern IS indeed affecting us? Any thoughts?

Penguin Recover: Remove links vs Burry Links
The best is to do both. However with those with limited resources, would building more links with branded and naked URL anchor links be a better solution than painstakingly asking every webmaster to remove links.

What are the pros and cons of using a link builder? Can link building be outsourced?
Hi, I have great content on my website which I would like to build external links to from other websites. I am told this will increase my domain authority and ultimately help search engine ranking positions. I have very limited time in my hands and now thinking of outsourcing the link building component to a specialist. Is this a good way of doing it? Could you recommend professional link builders?

What is the danger in offering giveaways in exchange for links?
In this Whiteboard Friday video, Rand says there is a danger in offering products for blogs to give away, simply requesting a link to your product or website in exchange for the giveaway. Could someone elaborate on what the danger is? Is this also the case with offering products for review?

Link exchanges no longer a big mistake?
Good Morning from Zero Degrees C very icy Wetherby UK... For eons i was under the understanding that if you had a choice over just inbound links verses a link exchange just inbound links wins hands down. Ive always just chased inbound links and never advocated link exhanges ie I link to you, you link to me. But stop the bus! I just read this here on the A - Z of link building strategies which advocates recipricol link exchanges: "Creating link pages that carry hundreds of links to slightly relevant 'partners' don't work anymore (ever wondered why most links.php pages have a grey PageRank?), but establishing link partnerships with a small amount of highly relevant websites can definitely be useful." So is it best practice now to have link exchanges? I always thought this was a mistake as it would lead to SEO juice leakage (Hate this term, but couldnt muster another one)unless you "Covertly" added a do no follow snippet in your outbound links. Any insights welcome 🙂
