High or low volume keyword

Does it take longer to rank on high volume versus a low volume keyword ?
if so why
Thank you,

Moz Bar has a Keyword Difficulty tool that generates right on your SERP - if you don't have Moz Bar downloaded, I would highly recommend!

If keyword Difficulty metric is my helper based on your experience do you have an idea of timing...
Based on my experience I have noticed that when the keyword difficulty is around 15 to 20 it takes about a week to 2 weeks to see some changes.
However, when the keyword difficulty is high like in the 45 to 55 range, do you know how long it can take ?
I have heard that for keyword difficulty of a 100 like on the keyword seo, it can take up to 2 years.

My gauge for this is to visit the SERPs and see WHO is ranking on the first page. The number competing and the volume matters a lot less than who is competing and what type of content has earned them these rankings. If I think that I can compete with their content then I attack - it does not matter the number competing or any other metric - if you have a good site and can defeat their content then you can probably attract enough links to become competitive over time.
I think about it like this... Do not fear competition, because where there is competition there is probably also a lot of traffic and a lot of money changing hands. You can often make decent money from long tail keywords on the edges of the fight and if you can break onto the first page of the SERPs there is likely a good payday.

It's a matter of competition, not volume.
High volume keywords have high competition.
Low volume keywords don't necessarily have low competition e.g: keywords like mesothelioma compensation will be hard to rank for despite relatively low search volume. It takes longer to rank for a keyword where competition is higher. Keyword Difficulty metric is your helper here.

Hyphens in Keyword
Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone had any experience of whether Google treats keywords with hyphens differently. One of my websites main keywords is 'buy to let', however all across our website it is referred to as 'buy-to-let'. People always search without the hyphens. I recently heard that Google may only treat us as a highly relevant match and not an exact match for this keyword. I was wondering if anyone had any experience of this, and what is the best course of action to take. Thanks

Low quality links on non www version only?
Spam links showing up on non-www version only. Why is this? And is it still important to remove these links even though the preferred domain is www?

My website is not ranking for primary keywords in Google
I need help regarding some SEO strategy that need to be implemented to my website http://goo.gl/AiOgu1 . My website is a leading live chat product, daily it receives around 2000 unique visitors. Initially the website was impacted by manual link penalty, I cleaned up lot of backlinks, the website revoked from the penalty some where around June'14. Most of the secondary and longtail Keywords started ranking in Google, but unfortunately, it do not rank well for the primary keywords like (live chat, live chat software, helpdesk etc). Since I have done lot of onsite changes and even revamped the content but till now I dont find any improvement. I am unable to understand where I have got structed.

Google drop down - keyword gone, why?
Hi guys, i received traffic off a yearly based term, this year for '2013' i noticed it is nowhere near what the yearly term was for the year before. I believe that Google has stopped the yearly term appearing in a drop-down menu from a big volume related term, my question is how do they determine what goes in the drop down menu for related/relevant searches?

Why google does not show my site on my branding keyword?
Hi, I am the site owner of http://www.lankahq.net. It is a youtube video hosted website. 95% of the video contents are daily telecasting TV shows and categorized to make easy to find the specific video of the day of preferred program of the viewer. About 1 year ago suddenly disappeared my site from the google. Before happened that it was performing very well in search. Google showed my site contents within few minutes after I update in their search results when someone search for that. At the moment it does not show even some one search for "lankahq". It showing only if search for "lankahq.net", "lankahq.com" or "www.lankahq.net" something like a search keyword related to my domain name. Some other websites have added my branding keyword LankaHQ as a user of their site and they showing on top of Google. But not mine. It is much appreciated if someone can have a look on this matter. I can not find where is the problem.

Adding another keyword phrase to home page.
I finally reached the #1 ranking for my websites main keyword phrase. There are two more equally good keyword phrases that have my main two keywords plus one additional page. Can I shoot for both of those or should I limit it to just adding one more keyword phrase for a max of two? For Example. I rank #1 for Horse Buggies (our domain is the main two keywords) (Example) The other two equally good phrases with a little more traffic are Horse Large Buggies (I rank #29)and Horse Giant Buggies. (#46) What is the best way to start ranking for those terms....without saturating or cannabolizing my current terms? We are about to change the URL's on some of our pages...so maybe I could add Large and Giant to the URL. Any suggestions? I sure would like to capture the other two keyword phrases. #1 URL additions? ( I think this would just rank me higher for the new pages) #2 Would getting new links with those two new keyword phrases in the alt text help or is that black hat? #3 Adding more of those keyword phrases to my home page? Thank you, Boo

Rebuilding a site with pre-existing high authority subdomains
I'm rebuilding a real estate website with 4 subdomains that have Page Authorities between 45 and 50. Since it's a real estate website it has 20,000+ pages of unique (listing) content PER sub-domain. The subdomains are structured like: washington.xyzrealty.com and california.xyzrealty.com. The root domain has a ~50 Page Authority. The site is about 7 years old. My preference is to focus all of my efforts on the primary domain going forward, but I don't want to waste the power of the subdomains. I'm considering: 1. Putting blogs or community/city pages on the subdomains 2. 301 redirecting all of the existing pages to matching pages on the new root domain. 3. Any other ideas??
