What Can I Do To Improve The SEO of My Site?
-
We have a website that is ranking okay but we can't seem to get past #6 or #7 for a specific national keyword, "self storage software". We are working on a more effective back-linking strategy right now, but we really are having a hard time identifying steps to take besides that.
If anyone can help me out and give me some suggestions I would be very appreciative. Maybe even seeing a competitive analysis from someone else would help catch something that I am not seeing.
Website is www.storageunitsoftware.com
Thanks in advance.

Hi Roman,
Thanks for the great info. For the keywords you want to rank for on a page, should you be using those exact same keywords in the below format? Do you use the same keywords in the anchor text? Or should you be using as many different and good (appropriate keyword difficulty, volume etc ) keywords as possible in this format?
3 keywords max:
<url>www.mysite.com/my-keyword-phrase</url>
<page title="">2 keywords max <title>Primary Keyword - Secondary Keyword - Brand</title></page>
2 keywords max:
keywords in my headers
2 keywords max:
keywords in my headers
![keyword](image file)
<focus keyword="">1 with Yoast</focus>
<anchor text="">Primary Keword-Secondary Keyword phrase (link to another page on your site) </anchor>
For Anchor text, you said this is a previous comment:
"Please try to avoid exact match on your anchor text, so use related keywords_ self storage software, self storage management software, software for self storage, self storage software programs"_
So that is why I thought one might want to have different highly ranking keywords in the above format.
Excited to see what you have to say!
Emma

Ok this is your website
www.storageunitsoftware.com- Domain Authority --> 40
- Linking Domains --> 975
- Inbound Links --> 15.9K
This is your keyword
self storage softwareFirst of all, let's evaluate your optimization level for this specific keyword
Moz Pro > Project > On-Page Grader
The results show me a Page Score of 92Some aspect that you can improve
Add your keyword to the page title and your header _(honestly, I don't think that will work but it will not hurt you)_Now let analyze your keyword self storage software
Moz
- Difficulty: 30
- CTR: 53%
- Volume: 101-200
Ahrefs
- Difficulty: 24
- Volume: 450
- You'll need backlinks from ~27 websites to rank in top 10 for this keyword
Semrush
- Difficulty: 46.98
- Volume: 320
Now let's analyze your anchor text, keep in mind that content and links are the most relevant ranking factor on every SEO campaign, Content because if the content is weak even with great link building you will lose your rank, you can get the top 1 and then lose it and Link Building because Google basically its a script that follow links, if there is no link there is no value.
Analyzing your case your TOP ANCHOR TEXT, it's obvious that they have no relevance to the keyword that you want to rank on this case self storage software, even your internal links has no value or relation to what you are
**let's take the top 5 anchor phrases from external links > Moz Report **
- _[no anchor text] _
- easy storage solutions
- make a payment
- pay online
- rent now
Ahrefs shows me similar results your anchor terms does not match with that keyword, just to make sure I ran an audit with Semrush and showed me similar results.
I mean, you can not expect to rank for the keyword self storage softwareif your internal and external links use anchor text such as view website, rsmedia or even worst no anchor
So how you can fix it?
Work on your site structure
You need to create an internal links structure to improve your visibility for the keywords that you want to rank basically, you will run a link building campaign in your own site using the anchor text as keywords.
Work on link building and outreach
You need to run an outreach campaign, basically, you will create a content campaign related to the topic that you want to rank this case self-storage software, and then outreach other blog and pages related to your audience and users. Another good alternative is to reach out to the owners of the sites who are linking to your site and improve the anchor text, there are a lot of links without anchor text
I made a quick research and found 114 tech blog who accept guest posting. These are some real examples of what Im talking about.
https://venturebeat.com/
Domain Authority --> 91
Submissions Page
https://venturebeat.com/guest-posts/https://www.kevinmd.com/
Domain Authority --> 66
Submissions Page
https://www.kevinmd.com/blog/heard-social-medias-leading-physician-voicehttp://www.sitepronews.com/
Domain Authority --> 68
Submissions Page
http://www.sitepronews.com/call-for-writers/Please try to avoid exact match on your anchor text, so use related keywords_ self storage software, self storage management software, software for self storage, self storage software programs_
This is a real and actionable plan, keep in mind that I do not know your competition and how is their performance, but with this advice, you can start to compete.

Hi there!
I remember seeing this Whiteboard Friday by Rand which may provide some food for thought: https://moz.com/blog/why-pages-rank-poorly
While your pages aren't ranking overly 'poorly' it may spark some ideas.
As you mentioned looking into building up the backlinks to these pages both internally and externally is a good strategy. Hopefully the above may give you some new avenues to look at.
Cheers,
Casey

How to transition a traditional site to app format with least amount of impact on SEO
My company is an e-commerce platform and within the last year have started working on app based websites. These are not apps that have to be downloaded but rather the site runs in the browser and is essentially one page of content. We have created an SEO layer that allows us to provide Google information as if there are individual pages. I'm looking for SEO advice on transitioning from what we call our vstores to an app store because the code specified by Google to use has shown to have negative impact on SEO rankings. While we have worked out many bugs and it has gotten better, just want to be doing everything I can to help any of our merchants that will be transitioning. Here are some of the specific issues I'm running into Duplicate Content merchants can have up to 3 stores running simultaneously with the same content just displayed slightly different

ex. sportsworldchicago.com, app.sportsworldchicagocom, m.sportsworldchicago.com a) What is the best way to control having the content be associated with the main domain
b) Should they be submitting all the sites to google for indexing, I only wanted sitemap submitted for the main domain
c) our end goal will be for the app. to just be the main site Loading issues, our apps essentially have a loading message. I think sometimes this is picked up as an ISE or timeout error for Google and other SERPS. I think it is also contributing to a higher site abandonment. We have changed an used different loading page messages, but have yet to find one I feel is a KEEPER. ex. site TheGrillLife.com - this one does not show the site in the background while loading. On other sites we have the site shown in the background while it loads. This is what is showing as indexed for the homepage, currently working with my tech team on it: The Grill Life <cite style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px;">www.thegrilllife.com/</cite> issue: API request failure (likely an ISE). uri: http://www.thegrilllife.com/. _cmd: appReviewsList. domain: www.thegrilllife.com. release: 201314|20130619133400. For e-commerce sites do you think the product content on category and sub-category pages is enough for Google or other search engines to determine relevancy for indexing. In some of the transitions content is being removed due to an effort to transition to a cleaner and faster design and layout. Thanks for any advice or suggestions in advance. Christy0 -
Linking out to authoritive sites from my ecommerce site
Good afternoon SEOmoz community. I was looking for a specific answer or advice or opinion about linking out to other sites. My Site www.tacticalbootstore.com has been undergoing a complete content rewrite. In the process we have been told and read where it can be good to link out to other authoritive sites. One of the pages we have rewritten is here. http://www.tacticalbootstore.com/belleville-boots-sizing-chart-a-97.html We have not added the graphics yet as they are being built now. This is just an informational page about sizing of a particular manufacturers boots. Once you get to the bottom of the text we have added a link to the actual manufacturers page. Is this helpful for us in the SERPS or not? Thank you for your time. Chris

Can hotlinking images from multiple sites be bad for SEO?
Hi, There's a very similar question already being discussed here, but it deals with hotlinking from a single site that is owned by the same person. I'm interested whether hotlinking images from multiple sites can be bad for SEO. The issue is that one of our bloggers has been hotlinking all the images he uses, sometimes there are 3 or 4 images per blog from different domains. We know that hotlinking is frowned upon, but can it affect us in the SERPs? Thanks, James

Can I turn off Google site links?
I thought at one time I had turned off the option to have Google sitelinks. I did this so that each of our pages that had a strong presence would occupy a unique slot on the first and second page of Google. This was important to us as we were battling some reputation management issues and trying to push out negative listings from the front page. Recently I noticed sitelinks were back up and when going into Google Webmaster Tools, I could figure out how to opt out of them. Any suggestions?

hi, i am trying to get the true speed of my site. i want to know how fast www.in2town.co.uk is but the tools that i am using are giving me different readings. http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/DkHoNWmZh/www.in2town.co.uk says the speed is 1.03s http://gtmetrix.com/reports/www.in2town.co.uk/i4EMDk34 says my speed is 2.25s and http://www.vertain.com/m.q?req=cstr&reqid=dAv79lt8 says it is 4.36s so as you can see i am confused. Best SEO strategy for a site that has been down
Because of hosting problems we're trying to work out, our domain was down all weekend, and we have lost all of our rankings. Doe anyone have any experience with this kind of thing in terms of how long it takes to figure out where you stand once you have the site back up? what the best SEO strategy is for immediately addressing this problem? Besides just plugging away at getting links like normal, is there anything specific we should do right away when the site goes back up? Resubmit a site map, etc? Thanks!
