Google isn't recognizing links to my site. help
-
I recently changed my domain name and i see on moz that NOTHING is linking to my current domain (even though I have changed all of my links to go to my current domain name). My domain authority remains higher with my old domain name. I do have my old domain linking to my current site. Should I worry about this? How can i get google to recognize the link changes?

Thank you for taking the time to look into this.

Hello there,
You should be setting up a 301 redirect from your old domain to your new domain, and as Nigel said, make sure to 301 the corresponding page from the previous site to the new site.
site1.com/content-A --> site2.com/content-A
Here's a detailed guide on how you can set up the redirect record in your DNS:
https://woorkup.com/301-redirect-domain-registrar/
Once you did that you can check with https://tools.keycdn.com/curl
You should be able to see if your 301 redirects work properly. (From what I just tested with your domain www.gofortmyersbeach.com it says 302 but not 301)
** Also, make sure you inform Google by using the Google Search Console > Change of Address**
(https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/83106?hl=en)
Hope this helps.

Hi Miles,
In addition to what Nigel has already explained, I checked your website redirects for your website www.gofortmyersbeach.com using the tool at http://www.redirect-checker.org . The homepage seems to be properly redirected to the new website and I hope you have redirected each URL to the mapping page on the new website.
You have to keep your old Domain properly redirected till google understands that the existing authority needs to be passed to the new domain. I hope this answers your question, please feel free to ask further queries.
Best Regards,
Vijay

Hi Miles,
Yes - you need to completely remove it as you will kill the new site and the old site stone dead. they will both share the same content! Just write in the htaccess of the old site all of the 301 redirects and take the site down. Then if anyone visits it they will automatically go to the corresponding pages on the new website.
It's way easier than this page suggests: https://moz.com/learn/seo/redirection More: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/93633?hl=en
If anyone is linking to the old domain they will come to the new one via the 301 redirect.
Just don't redirect every old page to the home page of your new site. Do it page by page. You will then start to see the backlinks appearing and the DA going up.
I hope that helps
Nigel

My site is www.sellingyouparadise.com and it was www.gofortmyersbeach.com . I did keep the old domain so that if anyone was using it, they could still link to it. Should i get rid of it?
-
Hi Miles
Did you 301 each page across to the corresponding page on your new site or just all to teh homepage? It's hard to tell you much without seeing the URL but if you set up the new site correctly and set the 301s up correctly the new site should inherit most of the old site link juice.
I'm assuming you don't have the old site still live by the way?
Regards Nigel

Why does my site only have 4 internal followed links/internal links?
When using Open Site Explorer my site is winning in many categories but lacking in others as compared to competitors. I intend to improve on this but am a little confused by the extremely low number of "internal followed links" and "internal links" at just 4. My competitors have much more than that. Does this mean links to the root domain? Total internal links? I have many internal links so I'm having a hard time figuring this one out. What four internal links are getting noticed? I just went through and changed all the links that went to index.html to link to the root domain at www.njlimocarservice.com as I just found a Q&A that indicates this was better. So as of Wed at 5:45 PM all my links to the homepage went to index.html and not the root which is no longer the case. Not sure if this matters. At the same time I also just put a 301 from index.html to redirect to www.njlimocarservice.com. Any help appreciated! h9QuF.png

Link building / baiting in the Google zoo
I work for a consultancy, and in the past most of our links have been acquired by giving away privacy statements etc for websites, including a link back in the body of the document, and making it a licensing requirement that the link be kept. We're launchinga new site. We want this one to be whiter-than-white, and would appreciate some advice on the following options. Option 1: no links Remove the links from the documents, and don't require links for the use of the documents. Leave a non-linking credit in the documents. Perhaps ask nicely for links from other pages. Option 2: links on other pages Remove the links from the documents, but make it a licensing requirement that users will link to our site from another page on their site. I appreciate that most won't, but some will. Option 3: retain the links Keep the links in the document, using domain name (with and without http and www) and business name anchor text. Option 4: script the links Use scripts to generate randomized links in the documents, so that no two are the same, but with relevant linking text for the most part. We're risk-adverse with the new site, and it will pick up some links "naturally". We're therefore tending toward option 1, on the basis that it may well generate as many links as option 2. Which of these options would you choose? Are there any other options we should be considering?

Mobile sites link strategies
Hi, I am working for a large mobil-site (+200.000 pages), to improve their SEO, and am trying to figure out the best way to set up a linkbuilding strategy for the site. The urls are very dynamic and often rather long so deep linking is difficult. Any input/ideas would be welcome 🙂 Jens Peter

When rebuilding a site, when should you start building links?
We are in the process of completely rebuilding our web presence. We went ahead and started a blog using Hubspot while we are redesigning everything and writing all new content. The new site will be live in early August. The question is when do we start making a big push with Linkbuilding? I am currently trying to promote the Blog but I'm wondering about linkbuilding for the rest of the site? Do we wait until the new site is live or do we start doing it now? The new site will be completely different from the old site?
