Dup titles based on capitaization
-
I am getting a lot of duplicate title errors when the only difference reported in SEOMoz's detail download shows that the capitalization in URL's from 2 referrer's is slightly different. But there's really only one page. See the example list of dups below:
Title:
<colgroup><col width="511"></colgroup>
|College Classroom Maps
|
URL:
<colgroup><col width="566"></colgroup>
| http://www.wall-maps.com/Classroom/College-maps.htm |Dup'S URL from another page:
<colgroup><col width="566"></colgroup>
| http://www.wall-maps.com/Classroom/College-Maps.htm |So you see the M in maps is capitalized in the A tag on the second referring page. I would be pretty shocked to learn that Google would consider this a duplicate title, but I am always learning new things. I do have canonical set up on my home page because this site can be accessed by www.wall-maps.com and wall-maps.com. So I don't think it's a lack of a canonical. Could this be a bug in SEOMoz's crawler or is it because IIS is not case sensitive and maybe Apache is??
Thanks in advance to whom ever can shed some light on this.

I agree with Oleg, you should add canonicals to the pages, because URLs can get messed up all the time due to things like capitalization, query parameters, etc.
Also, the fact that OSE is detecting two versions of your page probably means that both versions of the URL are being linked to from somewhere. It would be a good idea to figure out where the variant links are coming from (especially if it's your own site) and be consistent about your capitalization on all your links.

This is most likely the case. Most websites would treat those URLs as separate pages and think crawlers would too. You should set up canonicals so that only 1 version of the URL is indexed (whichever way you link to the page most often)
In addition, you should choose whether you want a www. or non-www url and 301 to your preferred version (I would keep the www as it looks like you have more links to it).

Page with "Missing Title Tag" isn't a page
Hello, I am going through the various errors that the Moz Pro Crawl report and some non-existent pages keep coming up in the report. For example, one error category is "Missing Title Tag" with one page identified. But this page http://www.immigroup.com/news/“http%3A/crs.yorku.ca”?page=2 isn't real. It would have been a 404 were there not a redirect for everything that is /news/gobbledygook to /news. So my question is: when moz (or GA for that matter) identifies these pages as "real" and having errors, do I need to take this seriously? And what do I do about it? Thanks! George

How to set up Rel=canonical in Joomla based sites
I've built a few sites using joomla (please don't tell me I should be using wordpress!!) and wondered how I can add the rel-canonical to these pages. I'm assuming it would come as a plugin or module but can't seem to find anything that works right for me. Anyone any ideas? Thanks in advance, Gordon

Duplicate page titles in SEOMoz
My on page reports are showing a good number of duplicate title tags, but they are all because of a url tracking parameter that tells us which link the visitor clicked on. For example, http://www.example.com/example-product.htm?ref=navside and http://www.example.com/example-product.htm are the same page, but are treated as to different urls in SEOMoz. This is creating "fake" number of duplicate page titles in my reports. This has not been a problem with Google, but SEOMoz is treating it like this and it's confusing my data. Is there a way to specify this as a url parameter in the Moz software? Or does anybody have another suggestion? Should I specify this in GWT and BWT?

False Pro reporting of duplicate titles
I am testing Pro. About 250 pages of content at my website. Pro says ALL of my pages have duplicate titles., but when I click on details, they display as unique titles. Ie: first page of results of Pro is as follows. While the content of my website is on one major topic the title meta tags are NOT identical. Is this an issue with Pro, or is Pro looking at something other than the title meta tags? Please advise ? Multiple Page Title Elements?
Greetings, I am baffled by the recommendation I repeatedly receive from seomoz's on-page optimization tool. The web page I am working on only shows one title between <title>and</title> in it's head. However, seomoz is also reading "Pass to multiple" from somewhere. It recommends that I "Avoid Multiple Page Title Elements" and I would like to but cannot find them. Any suggestions? By the way, I inherited this site and am just trying to deconstruct someone else's work. As a novice, I realize there might be some obvious explanation that I am just missing. Thanks!

Title tag on sitemap.xml
The SEO moz is showing an error on one of the sites within my SE Moz account campaign under Crawl Diagnostics: Title tag missing or empty. No problem here but the file associated with this issue is sitemap.xml and that just dose't look right as as far as I know xml files are title tag free. I've searched around and i've been able only to confirm my initial thought that sitemap.xml dose't use a title tag .. like any other xml. is this an issue ? (the error that is) or i should let it slide. can it be fixed ? if yes, how ? Thanks !
