Subdomain tracking codes on subdomain and not root

Afternoon all.
I’m pretty sure this is going to be fine but I thought I would seek some confirmation before I action anything.
We have a blog subdomain on our site, I have just noticed that the entire blog (built in Wordpress) has no analytics tracking code on it. As this is built in Wordpress I have just logged in on an admin account I think people forgot I had and added the code to the header section as it is a two second job.
My question is this – On the main account, subdomain tracking has not been turned on, so the root domain has not got the additional _gaq.push(['_setDomainName', 'rootdomain.co.uk']); line of code in it. I have included this on the blog.rootdomain.co.uk code as is necessary to enable tracking. Will this work or cause tracking issues? I think it should be ok.
I don’t want to have to update the root domain code if I can avoid it as that will need to go through the development team and may take weeks as they are swamped and under resourced.

I can also confirm that we are now seeing this Data in our reports, no apparant issues although i need to look further at visitors from the blog to the main site being recorded correctly just to be safe.

Search traffic hit after switching magazine to subdomain
Hi there, I'm fairly new at all of this and would appreciate any help with understanding why our website has taken a hit in traffic. We curate an online magazine, which was previously accessible through: forensicoutreach.com. It was receiving about 2,000+ unique visitors per day up until a week ago, when we changed a few things. However, the magazine doesn't reflect what our business does, so we created a product-focused web presence on forensicoutreach.com, and moved the magazine (which everyone loved) to library.forensicoutreach.com (DA 37, PA 1). We thought separating the properties was a good idea, but now I'm not so sure. Our traffic on library.forensicoutreach.com is 1,500 (so 500 less than usual!) and our main property has about 56 unique visits a day. It's pretty substantial. A few questions: 1. If we move the library to forensicoutreach.com/library, will that make any difference? 2. Where did we go wrong here and how can we fix it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

if I 301 redirect www.mywebsite.com to go to www.yourwebsite.com, how can I track the traffic in Google Analytics that is coming from mywebsite.com?? I don't think that's a referral traffic, is it?

Track PDF's in Google Analytics
Hi Mozzers, Is it possible to track PDF's via Google Analytics/Google tag manager? I'm not only looking for PDF downloads but for the actual activity when someone opens an interactive PDF document. So would it be possible to have onclick events on buttons in the PDF etc... Many thanks!

Campaign Tracking URLs and the Impact on SEO
Hi Guys, I am setting up tracking for a couple of offline campaigns in Analytics and would just like to know if this will cause issues. The situation is below: Two URLs Ranking Well Organically: www.domain.co.uk/area-covered/area-a www.domain.co.uk/area-covered/area-b URLs Setup for the Purpose of Offline Campaigns www.domain.co.uk/campaign1 www.domain.co.uk/campaign2 Plan to Track this in Analytics www.domain.co.uk/campaign1 redirecting to www.domain.co.uk/area-covered/area-a_&utm_medium=qr&utm_source=test1&utm_campaign=test1_ www.domain.co.uk/campaign2 redirecting to www.domain.co.uk/area-covered/area-a&utm_medium=qr&utm_source=test2&utm_campaign=test1__ So the idea is that the user gets a nice simple URL to input from the off-line media (www.domain.co.uk/campaign1). This then redirects to one of the pages thats performing well organically (www.domain.co.uk/area-covered/area-a) but with the relevant tracking (www.domain.co.uk/campaign1 redirecting to www.domain.co.uk/area-covered/area-a&utm_medium=qr&utm_source=test1&utm_campaign=test1). The only way that the tracking URL can be accessed by the user is if the off-line media URL is entered. My main concern here is how Google will treat this. Obviously I don't want to cause issues with the two URLs that are ranking well organically. Would having a version of exactly the same URL, just with tracking do so? Any help is appreciated! Cross Domain Tracking in GA (without cross domain links)
Hi everyone, Been doing some research about cross-domain tracking in Google Analytics (preferably Universal Analytics where documentation is a bit spare). All of the tutorials focus on the auto-linking and ensuring links to the other site are taken care of. I'm considering a site that may not cross-link like that at all (or it may, but won't be the main avenue). A good example is: www.gap.com

www.oldnavy.com Now, they do link to the other brands in their navigation but let's pretend that they don't necessarily do that. Gap Corporate may want to roll up all these domains into a single reporting profile because customers can clearly visit any of those sites on their own and buy. It would be nice to know that Visitor X bought 2 items from gap.com and 3 from oldnavy.com... and of course, here were their campaigns, etc. From what I am reading, I am not sure this is really possible. It seems that the cross-domain code is really only best for when my main site links to another domain for checkout or something. But in my example, we are definitely not in control of that kind of behavior. Thoughts? Perhaps I need to recommend they go with subdomains only which Universal GA seems to handle quite fine out of the box. Thank you!0 -
How to track forwarding URLs sent via DNS settings
Buongiorno from hot a humid wetherby UK. A client has gone ahead and set up DNS forwarding from www.ramsdens.tv to http://www.ramsdensforcash.co.uk now they wonder why theyve got no data showing in Google analytics. So knowing theyve gone ahead with this method of forwarding how is it possible to measure referrals originating from www.ramsdens.tv My only thought is to add a tracking parameter on the baclk of the forwarding url.Thanks in advance
