How to not track mobile redirects in Google Analytics
-
If a user is on a mobile device and comes to our home page, http://www.darden.virginia.edu/web/Home/ they are redirected to http://m.darden.virginia.edu/web/Home/. We want a way to remove all the redirects from our Google analytics reports. More specifically we do not want to include the the page view of http://www.darden.virginia.edu/web/Home/ in our page view count when the user is on a mobile device. How do we do that?

Hi There,
Well there are two ways to approach this problem:
- The rightest way to fix the problem is to implement a server side redirect system, rather than a JavaScript redirect (client-side). This is best practice for mobile redirects, and the way that a majority of the sites on the web do it.
The reason why you're getting those first pageviews is because the GA snippet has time to fire before the user is redirected to mobile. With a server-side redirect, no HTML is loaded, so the GA snippet never fires.
2a) The sort-of hacky way to fix this would be to apply filters that exclude mobile visits from your reports. It'd be wise to create a new profile, though, so you still have the mobile device traffic for analysis in your regular profiles.
2b) Another hacky fix: Suppress the GA snippet when a mobile device is detected. You could adapt the logic you have in place that redirects mobile users to the mobile site to the GA snippet. For example:
var deviceMatch = navigator.userAgent.match(/Blackberry/i) || navigator.userAgent.match(/Symbian/i) || navigator.userAgent.match(/iPhone/i) || navigator.userAgent.match(/iPod/i) ||navigator.userAgent.match(/Android/i);
if (!deviceMatch && $.cookie('full_site')) {{Fire GA}
}
All that said, the 2nd options are NOT the right way to go about things. Option 1 is definitely what should be done.

Increase in Direct traffic, drop in Google traffic, after updating Google Analytics settings.
I made some changes to our Google Analytics property settings (see notes in screenshot). As a result, there was an equal drop in Google traffic and increase in Direct traffic. Has anyone else seen something like this before? I'm wondering if I should revert. jE7buO6

Why is this tag not firing in Google Analytics?
I setup Google Tag Manager on this site- http://germanhausbarn.com I am trying to setup event tracking for the donate, newsletter, and Contact Us button at the bottom of the page. The most recent version is published, and I ran debug and it shows that they fire, but nothing is coming up in analytics. Any thoughts?

Google Analytics Events that lead to Goals (conversions)
Hello! I'm in the process of setting up Events in Google Analytics to track the performance of banner ads on our site. While that will take care of the action performed by the visitor (i.e. the click on the banner), it doesn't tell me if the visitor ultimately completed the form where the banner ad directs them (which is set up as one of out site's Goals). Once the Event is in place, will I be able to track the Goal conversions that it leads to? It's nice that Events will tell me which banner drove someone to the form, but if I'm not able to see if that Event led to a Goal conversion it seems like something will be missing. So, is this something that's already available within Goals or Events reporting, or is there an additional step I need to take? Thanks in advance for your feedback! Erik

Exporting Keywords in Google Analytics
In the old Google Analytics, I would simply add &limit=30000 in the URL. Does anyone know how to export all keywords from the new Google Analytics?

Google Analytics Best Practice Set up for Clients
Hi When setting up new Google Analytics accounts for clinets what is the preferred/best practice. At present we have our own company google account and add new clinets this way (to our account) - the disadvantage with this, we can only grant them limited account access otherwise they would be able to view all the accounts we cretaed. Plus we can't link their adwords to the GA account we cretaed them. Is it best practice to set the client up with their own Google Account and then we just link to their account. Advise would be appreciated, thank you.

Mobile and Google Analytics
As my mobile numbers are going up in Google Analytics I'm trying to figure out what phone runs what browser. I see that 93% of mobile users have Safari which I believe is iPhone, iPad and iPods. There is a 6% usage of "Mozilla Compatible Agent". What cell phone would this be?

Track Google/Bing Shopping as Referrer
Is there a way to track Google & Bing Shopping referrals independent of standard Google/Bing tracking? It would be nice if we could see the difference between Google PPC, Google Organic & Google Shopping. I notice in analytics that we get some traffic from google/ppc, some from google/organic, some from google.com/referral (not sure what this is), and some from googlebase/cse (I know this is Google shopping, but I don't think it's tracking all shopping referral visits as this).
