Internal Ads on A Site
-
We serve ads on our site using a sub-domain.
All ads use a re-direct from ads.domain before redirecting users to the proper, normal, internal url.
Most the content on our home page is ad block driven.
Is it possible and does it make sense to enter the sub-domain as url parameter in Google Webmaster tools, letting Google know that this is something to be ignored.
Many thanks

Hi,
Google is very aware of ads, so it's entirely possible that Google is aware that that subdomain is for ads only, and isn't indexing it anyway.
To see if Google is indexing it, go to Google and type in "site:ads.domain" to see if it's indexed. If it isn't, Google won't find any results.
If you want to remove that subdomain from Google's index, you won't be able to add it as a URL parameter in Webmaster Tools, since it's an entire URL. Instead, remove it from the index with robots.txt. Google explains how to do that here.
Last, and we have to say this as SEOs, there's a good chance you are or will be penalized for using most of your homepage for ads! We'd strongly recommend that you remove some, or add some more content so that the majority of your homepage is unique content. At the very least, move most ads below the fold.
Hope this helps! Follow up if you have any more questions,
Kristina

301 redirect from sites closing down
Hi We have around 10 supplementary sites that have links to our site which are now closing down but are out of our control. We could have access to their domains so how could we maintain the link juice from these old sites which are going to our new site? However there will be no websites left on these old supplementary just domain names

Open Site Explorer Question
In OSE I have 3 of my top 5 pages as store.com, store.com/Default.asp, and store.com/default.asp -- I have a canonical version of at store.com/default.asp. I have inbound links coming to all three urls -- b/c OSE is listing these as seperate pages does that mean the link juice is not being consolidated? Or is this not something to worry about?

Adding content into an iframe
I want to buy an app/program that will help me create unique content but the content will be inserted to the page via an iframe. I have heard that iframes are problematic. I know that there will not be a lot of indexable content from this but I think that it will make people want to link to me. I would like to hear from someone's experience if I should go ahead or not.

Does Site Structure Affect Google
Hi - I'm pretty new at this. We’re running an e-commerce affiliate site at http://www.mydomain.com. So we don’t take payments but customer gets passed through to third party sites when they select to buy a product. We have a blog at http://www.mydomain.com/news. I think Google is treating these 2 sites as as separate sites for PR. For this reason we're thinking about moving this to http://news.mydomain.com. Anyone have any experience in this?

Why is this site ranking so good?
Site in question: http://bit.ly/aBvVbm Our main competitor in the UK seems to be ranking extremely good for the keyword "jigsaw puzzles" even though their linking profile doesn't seem all that great? They mainly have site-wide links on 2 of their other ecommerce sites which seem to be given them their ranking power as this equals to 100's of links. Does sitewide links on 2 sites really give this much ranking power or am I missing something?

Site Structure Still Old
Ok after my first SEO report from seomoz I re-structured one of my sites. I basically split it into two different sites. I did this way before it was re-crawled on 5/1 and the results still show pages that no longer exist on that domain. What is causing this (user error I am sure but I just need to know what I can do to fix it).
