To test your website's speed using Speedtest, you can follow these steps:

      Visit the Speedtest Website:
Go to the Speedtest website (Speed Test.how/) using your web browser.

      Select the Test Type:
On the Speedtest homepage, you'll see a "Go" button to start the speed test. This test measures your internet connection speed. Click on the "Go" button to begin the test.

Wait for the Test to Complete:
Speedtest will start measuring your internet connection speed by testing the download and upload speeds. This process usually takes a few seconds to complete.

      View the Results:
Once the test is finished, Speedtest will display the results on the screen. You will see the download speed, upload speed, and ping (latency) values. These values indicate how fast your internet connection is.

      Analyze the Results:
Take note of the download and upload speeds reported by Speedtest. These speeds are measured in megabits per second (Mbps) and can give you an idea of how quickly your website's content can be accessed by visitors.

      Repeat the Test (Optional):
If you want to perform multiple tests to get an average speed or to check for consistency, you can click on the "Test Again" button on the Speedtest results page.

By following these steps, you can use Speedtest to measure the speed of your website's internet connection. Keep in mind that the actual speed experienced by website visitors may vary based on their own internet connections and geographic location.

I want to share my experience here related to images optimization and site speed:

              • First of all I edit and set the dimension of image on canva instead of fixing its dimension after uploading on CMS.

              • Then I use tinypng website to compress that image.

              • After that I convert that image into webp format through cludconvert website.
I have not faced any issue of site speed after these steps.

You can improve your website's speed: with Quick Caching Tips

Improving your website's speed is a breeze with these caching tips:

                1. Caching Basics
Understand what to cache and where. For static pages, go for long-term caching, while dynamic ones benefit from shorter expiries.

                2. Cache Placement
Utilize caching at different levels—Browser, CDN (like Cloudflare), and Server (Litespeed, Nginx, IIS, Apache). Each plays a crucial role in optimizing content delivery.

                3. Monitor and Optimize
Regularly check server resources. Shared hosting vs. dedicated servers? Make informed decisions based on your site's needs.

                4. Strategic Caching
Strategically cache static content, preload essential elements, and manage scripts wisely for a balanced user experience.

                5. Optimize Scripts
Use tools like Chrome's coverage analysis to optimize JavaScript. Exclude unused scripts for efficient resource utilization.

                6. Control Speed
Leverage .htaccess, wp-config files, and robots.txt for headers optimization. Choose between locally hosted or Google fonts and set up pre-connecting and DNS prefetching.

                7. SEO and Security
Implement HSTS for secure connections. Manage redirects efficiently and block malicious bots for improved security.

                8. Core Web Vitals
Address Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) by preloading CSS and fonts. Optimize the Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) by excluding essential images from lazy loading. Minimize Input Delay (INP) by loading necessary JavaScript without unnecessary delays.

Incorporate these simple steps for a faster and smoother website experience. Check out PakLivings for a practical example of these principles in action.

some general tips on how to improve your site speed:

Use a caching plugin: Caching plugins store static copies of your website's files, so that they don't have to be loaded from scratch every time someone visits your site. This can significantly improve your site's loading speed.
Optimize your images: Images are often the largest files on a website, so it's important to optimize them for the web. This means using the correct file format (e.g., JPEG for photos, PNG for logos), compressing the images as much as possible without sacrificing quality, and using descriptive filenames and alt tags.
Minify your code: Minification is the process of removing unnecessary whitespace and characters from your website's code. This can make your code smaller and faster to load.
Use a content delivery network (CDN): A CDN is a network of servers that deliver your website's content to users from around the world. This can help to improve your site's loading speed for users who are located far away from your main server.

To enhance site speed, optimize images, minimize HTTP requests, use a Content Delivery Network (CDN), and compress CSS, JavaScript, and HTML files. Prioritize above-the-fold content, reduce server response time, and consider asynchronous loading for non-essential scripts. Utilize browser caching and monitor performance with tools like Google PageSpeed Insights for ongoing improvements.

                                Hello Moz Community,

We're dealing with an issue on our client website, a platform for profile pictures. Currently, we can't use webp format images because images will be downloaded by users for their whatsapp and they won't work on platforms like WhatsApp, as they don't support webp for profile pictures.

I understand webp is crucial for speeding up the site, but are there other factors that can help boost the website speed?

                                Looking for some advice. Thanks!

Site speed refers to the amount of time it takes for a website to load its content, including text, images, scripts, and other elements, when a user requests to access it. It is a crucial aspect of a website's performance and user experience. Site speed is typically measured in seconds, and faster loading times are generally associated with a better user experience and improved search engine rankings.

Key components that contribute to site speed include:

Page Load Time: This is the total time it takes for a web page to load all of its content and become fully interactive. A shorter page load time is generally preferred.

Time to First Byte (TTFB): TTFB measures the time it takes for a user's browser to receive the first byte of data from the web server after making a request. It is an important metric for understanding server responsiveness.

Render Time: This refers to the time it takes for a browser to render and display the content of a web page after receiving it from the server.

I'm currently working on a link audit for my website and considering using the disavow tool. What are your best practices for identifying and disavowing harmful links?

Certainly! I took a look at your website, and it seems that you're using images that might be impacting your site's speed. Here are some suggestions to improve your site's speed:

                                      1. Image Optimization:

                                        • Compress your images without compromising too much on quality. Tools like TinyPNG or ImageOptim can help reduce image file sizes.
                                        • Use responsive images and the <picture> element to serve different image sizes based on the user's device.
                                      2. Lazy Loading:

                                        • Implement lazy loading for images. This technique loads images only when they come into the user's viewport, reducing the initial load time.
                                      3. Browser Caching:

                                        • Set up browser caching for static assets like images. This allows returning visitors to load your site faster by storing files in their browser.
                                      4. Content Delivery Network (CDN):

                                        • Consider using a CDN to distribute your content across multiple servers globally. This can significantly improve loading times for users in different geographical locations.
                                      5. Reduce HTTP Requests:

                                        • Minimize the number of requests your site makes to the server by combining CSS and JavaScript files and using CSS sprites for small images.
                                      6. Minify CSS and JavaScript:

                                        • Minify your CSS and JavaScript files to remove unnecessary characters and spaces, reducing file sizes.
                                      7. Optimize Server Performance:

                                        • Ensure that your server is properly configured and optimized for performance. Consider upgrading your hosting plan if necessary.
                                      8. Content Optimization:

                                        • Optimize the content of your website, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Remove any unnecessary code or comments.
                                      9. Monitor Your Site:

                                        • Regularly monitor your site's performance using tools like Google PageSpeed Insights or GTmetrix. These tools provide insights and suggestions for improvement.

Remember to back up your site before making any significant changes, and test the improvements to ensure they don't negatively impact your site's functionality. Implementing these suggestions should help enhance your site's speed and overall user experience.
                                      .
                                      .
                                      .

If your site speed is low, consider optimizing the image size without compromising too much on quality. You can use online tools or plugins to compress images. Additionally, leverage browser caching, minimize CSS and JavaScript files, and enable compression to improve overall site speed. Regularly check your website's performance using tools like Google PageSpeed Insights to identify and address specific speed issues.

Improving website speed is crucial for a better user experience and search engine optimization. After analyzing your website https://bandolini.ir/, here are some suggestions to enhance its speed:

                                          Optimize Images:
While you mentioned using mid-quality pictures, it's essential to ensure they are appropriately compressed. Use image compression tools like TinyPNG or ImageOptim to reduce file sizes without compromising quality.

                                          Leverage Browser Caching:
Implementing browser caching can significantly improve load times for returning visitors. Configure your server to include appropriate cache headers for static resources. This instructs the visitor's browser to store certain files locally, reducing the need for repeated downloads.

                                          Minify CSS and JavaScript:
Minify your CSS and JavaScript files to remove unnecessary characters, such as white spaces and comments. This reduces file sizes and speeds up loading times. You can use online tools or build processes to automate this task.

                                          Enable Compression:
Enable GZIP or Brotli compression on your server to reduce the size of transferred files. This is particularly effective for text-based resources like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

                                          Reduce Server Response Time:
Optimize your server performance to minimize the time it takes to respond to requests. Consider upgrading your hosting plan or optimizing your server configurations for better efficiency.

                                          Limit HTTP Requests:
Decrease the number of elements on each page, as each element requires a separate HTTP request. This includes images, scripts, and stylesheets. Combine multiple files where possible, and use CSS sprites for small images.

Use a Content Delivery Network (CDN):
Utilize a CDN to distribute your website's static assets across servers worldwide. This reduces the physical distance between the user and the server, resulting in faster load times.

                                          Optimize Critical Rendering Path:
Prioritize the loading of critical resources to improve the perceived performance of your website. This includes inlining critical CSS, deferring non-critical JavaScript, and optimizing the order of resource loading.

                                          Implement Lazy Loading:
Apply lazy loading for images and other non-critical elements. This defers the loading of certain resources until they come into the user's viewport, reducing the initial page load time.

                                          Evaluate Third-Party Scripts:
Review and assess the impact of third-party scripts on your website. These scripts, such as analytics tools or social media widgets, can contribute to slower loading times. Consider removing or optimizing them where possible.

Implementing these suggestions should help improve the speed of your website. Regularly monitor your website's performance using tools like Google PageSpeed Insights or GTmetrix to identify additional areas for optimization.

                                              seo

Hi there, I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on this... I'm working with a client whose website is experiencing some odd organic traffic patterns. See screenshot attached. As you can see, there was a sudden cliff fall about a month ago, and then it recovered (almost) entirely. Then, a month to the day later, the same thing happened again. What is the likelihood that this is a data glitch vs an algorithm thing? Any light you can shed on this would be appreciated. Thanks,

Best SEO Structure For E-Commerce With Products Using Multiple Categories

                                              site structure seo

Hi all, I am in the process of re-structuring my e-commerce website for better SEO and user experience. I have done some keyword research and would like some advice on how best to structure my site around those keywords. For example, my site (All Things Nature) sells a brand of wooden sculptures (Woodsculp) and I would like to rank for keywords related to that brand, the brand by animal, the brand by collection and the brand by release date.
Examples of keywords could be: Brand by Animal: Woodsculp Dogs, Woodsculp Cats, Woodsculp Elephants
Brand by Collection: Woodsculp Pets, Woodsculp Safari
Brand by Release Date: Woodsculp Christmas 2023, Woodsculp Summer 2022 I would create each of these keywords as a category so that they can be found by a search engine and by users. I would then structure as follows: All Things Nature -> Woodsculp -> Woodsculp by Animal -> Woodsculp Dogs
All Things Nature -> Woodsculp -> Woodsculp by Animal -> Woodsculp Elephants
All Things Nature -> Woodsculp -> Woodsculp by Collection -> Woodsculp Pets
All Things Nature -> Woodsculp -> Woodsculp by Collection -> Woodsculp Safari
All Things Nature -> Woodsculp -> Woodsculp by Release Date -> Woodsculp Christmas 2023
All Things Nature -> Woodsculp -> Woodsculp by Release Date -> Woodsculp Summer 2022 The only problem with this structure is it would take more than 3 clicks (4) for the user to reach a product. How critical is this for good SEO and user experience? Would I be better off getting rid of the ‘Woodsculp by Animal’, ‘Woodsculp by Collection’ and ‘Woodsculp by Release Date’ categories? Structure would look as follows: All Things Nature -> Woodsculp -> Woodsculp Dogs
All Things Nature -> Woodsculp -> Woodsculp Elephants
All Things Nature -> Woodsculp -> Woodsculp Safari
All Things Nature -> Woodsculp -> Woodsculp Christmas 2023 The only thing with this is there would be a lot of categories under the brand name which might make it more difficult for search engines and users to logically follow. Would I be better off getting rid of the brand category and replace them with the keyword categories? Structure would look as follows: All Things Nature -> Woodsculp by Animal -> Woodsculp Dogs
All Things Nature -> Woodsculp by Animal -> Woodsculp Elephants
All Things Nature -> Woodsculp by Collection -> Woodsculp Safari
All Things Nature -> Woodsculp by Release Date -> Woodsculp Christmas 2023 This would organise things more logically but I would then lose the brand category (and the potential of the brand keyword ranking?) Would I be better off choosing one main keyword to use as a category and then use tags for the other categories? Categories: All Things Nature -> Woodsculp -> Woodsculp Dogs
All Things Nature -> Woodsculp -> Woodsculp Elephants Tags: Woodsculp Safari
Woodsculp Christmas 2023 The next issue I have is that I have products which could fall under several different categories. A product called Elijah Elephant, for example could fall under Woodsculp Elephants, Woodsculp Safari and Woodsculp Summer 2022. In previous e-commerce sites I have never assigned multiple categories to one product (I instead have used tags). Is it good practice to organise products under multiple categories for an e-commerce site? Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

English pages given preference over local language

                                              seo seo rankings rankings google

We recently launched a new design of our website and for SEO purposes we decided to have our website both in English and in Dutch. However, when I look at the rankings in MOZ for many of our keywords, it seems the English pages are being preferred over the Dutch ones. That never used to be the case when we had our website in the old design. It mainly is for pages that have an English keyword attached to them, but even then the Dutch page would just rank. I'm trying to figure out why English pages are being preferred now and whether that could actually damage our rankings, as search engines would prefer copy in the local language. An example is this page: https://www.bluebillywig.com/nl/html5-video-player/ for the keywords "HTML5 player" and "HTML5 video player".

On site issues after Magento 2 launch

We did a new site launch on Feb 7th this year - www.vesternet.com It changed from Magento 1 to Magento 2.  We had some launch issues around SEO but now we've solved most every crawler issue in Moz reporting - according to Moz we're in better shape on-site than ever. But our organic search is just dropping daily - we expected a drop after launch then back to normal, but over 2 months on something just isn't right. A good example, on Google UK for keyword 'home automation' we've always been about position 10, but now we're out the top 50... Forget about off site for now - what's wrong with our site itself to have caused this? Can anyone help with insights please as this is killing our sales

SEO audit on a beta site

HI there, Is there much point conducting an SEO site audit on a site that has not yet launched and is protected behind a login? Presumably none of the usual SEO tools (Moz, Screaming Frog etc) can crawl this site becuase it is all locked behind a login. Would it be better to launch it and then do a site audit? Thanks

                                              301 Redirect to external site

Hi guys, We have a client who is getting their website redesigned through us. They are discontinuing couple of their services which will not get featured in the new site. They are fairly well ranked for these services and my client wishes to 301 redirect these pages to an external site owned by his friend so that they benefit out of the ranking. The question is: Will my client's website's general ranking get affected due to 301 redirecting to an external site? The external site is not spammy or red-flagged by Google (at the moment, at least). Thanks in advance!

Why does Google pick a low priority page on my site?

Hi Guys. One of my pages ranks quite well for "mid year diaries 14-15" on Google.  The problem is it's a really specific product page (A4, Hardback, day-to-a-page diary I think). It would be much better for the user to land on our mid-year diaries category, not really deep into the site.  Why is Google prioritizing this product page over our general 'mid year diaries' category? Especially when the category would relate to the search more accurately? I work for TOAD diaries and I think our page rank is 10 for this search. Eagerly awaiting some insight 🙂 Thanks in advance everyone! Isaac.
