      I have a YouTube video I want to show my B2B and B2C customers. But I have a different websites for each. If I embed the video will I get duplicate content strike against me?

        Thank you for the responses! Greatly appreciated. I'm just wondering if someday Google will see this as dup content...as it does written content.

        Why is it that News sources can syndicate content, but if I put that content on my blog, it's duplicate content?

          Matt's suggestion of adding unique, valuable and interesting contextual info around the video is a very good approach.

            The best thing to do would be to add contextual information around the video. On the B2B site, your introduction or summary of the video should target that demographic. And the same for the B2C.

              Think of it as an "viral campaign". It's not your "fault" that your video is embedded on more then one websites.

              On the other hand, at this time, the search engine can not read "information" in a video. So in any case there can be no duplicate content.

                No you won't get penalized for duplicate content because what you are doing is, in effect, syndicating content. YouTube owns the original content and will get credit for the original content. This is a similar scenario to say, a new story from Associated Press that gets picked up and published in newspapers across the country. They are syndicating, not duplicating the content. However, the credit for that content creation is retained by the original source.

                  Duplicate content in sidebar

                  Hi guys. So I have a few sentences (about 50 words) of duplicate content across all pages of my website (this is a repeatable text in sidebar). Each page of my website contains about 1300 words (unique content) in total, and 50 words of duplicate content in sidebar.                   Canonical: Same content but different countries

                  I'm building a website that has content made for specific countries.  The url format is: MyWebsite.com/<country name="">/</country> Some of the pages for <specific url="">are the same for different countries, the <specific url="">would be the same as well.  The only difference would be the <country name="">.</country></specific></specific> How do I deal with canonical issues to avoid Google thinking I'm presenting the same content?

                  Updating Old Content at Scale - Any Danger from a Google Penalty/Spam Perspective?

                  We've read a lot about the power of updating old content (making it more relevant for today, finding other ways to add value to it) and republishing (Here I mean changing the publish date from the original publish date to today's date - not publishing on other sites). I'm wondering if there is any danger of doing this at scale (designating a few months out of the year where we don't publish brand-new content but instead focus on taking our old blog posts, updating them, and changing the publish date - ~15 posts/month). We have a huge archive of old posts we believe we can add value to and publish anew to benefit our community/organic traffic visitors. It seems like we could add a lot of value to readers by doing this, but I'm a little worried this might somehow be seen by Google as manipulative/spammy/something that could otherwise get us in trouble. Does anyone have experience doing this or have thoughts on whether this might somehow be dangerous to do? Thanks Moz community!

                  Duplicate content penalty

                  when moz crawls my site they say I have 2x the pages that I really have & they say I am being penalized for duplicate content.  I know years ago I had my old domain resolve over to my new domain. Its the only thing that makes sense as to the duplicate content but would search engines really penalize me for that? It is technically only on 1 site.  My business took a significant sales hit starting early July 2013, I know google did and algorithm update that did have SEO aspects.  I need to resolve the problem so I can stay in business

                  Duplicate Content for Men's and Women's Version of Site

                  So, we're a service where you can book different hairdressing services from a number of different salons (site being worked on). We're doing both a male and female version of the site on the same domain which users are can select between on the homepage. The differences are largely cosmetic (allowing the designers to be more creative and have a bit of fun and to also have dedicated male grooming landing pages), but I was wondering about duplicate pages. While most of the pages on each version of the site will be unique (i.e. [male service] in [location] vs [female service] in [location] with the female taking precedent when there are duplicates), what should we do about the likes of the "About" page? Pages like this would both be unique in wording but essentially offer the same information and does it make sense to to index two different "About" pages, even if the titles vary? My question is whether, for these duplicate pages, you would set the more popular one as the preferred version canonically, leave them both to be indexed or noindex the lesser version entirely?                   Solve duplicate content issues by using robots.txt

                  Hi, I have a primary website and beside that I also have some secondary websites with have same contents with primary website. This lead to duplicate content errors. Because of having many URL duplicate contents, so I want to use the robots.txt file to prevent google index the secondary websites to fix the duplicate content issue. Is it ok? Thank for any help!

                  What's the best practice for handling duplicate content of product descriptions with a drop-shipper?

                  We write our own product descriptions for merchandise we sell on our website.  However, we also work with drop-shippers, and some of them simply take our content and post it on their site (same photos, exact ad copy, etc...).  I'm concerned that we'll loose the value of our content because Google will consider it duplicated. We don't want the value of our content undermined... What's the best practice for avoiding any problems with Google? Thanks, Adam

                  Getting access to clients websites for onsite seo

                  I understand on site seo fine, as I have tweeked up my own website a fair bit. But I am thinking about doing Onsite and Offsite SEO for clients, as I have had a few request now. So my question is what is the best way to get access to clients websites. So I can make the required adjustments.
