Google Reconsideration Requests no problem... So what do I do next?
-
Hi all,
So I recently filed a Google reconsideration request - but it came back saying "No manual spam actions found" - ok, so that's that. But from what I've read, if we have been hit by Panda for duplicate or thin content, we wouldn't know - in other words, Google does not report it as it is an algorhythm penalty as opposed to a manual one.
So what are my options - do I wait until the next Panda update? when can that be? Or do I start over on a fresh domain?
Input and views appreciated.
thanks,
-
How badly 'damaged' do you believe your domain to be?
I mean, changing a domain name can be an issue depending on how much branding and money you've put into it.
But, on the same breath, you could say it's easier to cut your losses and if you have a strategic plan of action, then it could be a better option to start again a new.
What's your domain name, out of interest? Feel free to PM Me.

Thanks Tom - very helpful indeed.
We have adopted most of those strategies but obviously we are correcting past mistakes so playing catch up.
I am just wondering if it's worth moving to a new domain to try and start from scratch as our traffic does seem really low still and I have a sneaky feeling we are still in a penalty with Google.
mmm....

As you know, I run an ecommerce store too. I think the difference here is that we have a full time team here who write copy for all of our products. We take as much information as we can from the manufacturer and then we give it our own personal touch.
We sell a lot of DJ, Audio and Lighting equipment and we are all connected with music somehow, so our writers are passionate about what we sell. We know what bad speakers are, we know high quality when we see it (or hear it), so I think the key with our store is definitely the amount of effort we put into our listings.
Just by copying content from a manufacturer to your website is not going to do well with Google.
Here's just a few key things that we do:
- Never copy content from a manufacturer... ever! - The description is where you need to sell the item to a customer as well as use it to make the product page more exciting and attractive to search engined.
- Never keyword stuff! - This is something we have always tried our best to avoid. Our main keyword for Google UK is "disco speakers" and we have sat at number one for nearly 5 years. And it's simple: You write your content and then you keyword your page to the KEY words in the content. A lot of people think it's okay to say "Right, I want to rank number one for 'refurbished iphone 4' so I will make a website and in the title I will have 'Buy Refurbished iPhone 4' and then I will add a huge chunk of text on every page about refurbished iphone 4." - This isn't going to work. It's not a natural way of writing. Of course it's important to fit in the MAIN keywords the best you can, but if one of the writers here can't fit in "high quality audo cable" into a listing, then they don't put it in.
- **Be forever uploading **- This may sound confusing, but we upload new products (or previously out of stock products) every day. We are forever writing content for new products. Our website is never static. It's changing every day. By changing I mean growing bigger. We currently sell over 4,000 lines and attract around 20,000 hits a month or more (depending on season) and that's down to our team of content writers and inventory managers.
- Be unique - I hate this word... a lot! Because nothing is unique. But we rank quite high for images as well as keywords for our pages because all of our products are photographed and they get the whole photoshop treatment to look really appealing to our customers. As well as this, we keyword the alt tags very well to describe the image as well as match the content of the page.
That is the basics.
A few other little tips would be: **BLOG ABOUT YOUR PRODUCTS! **You need to have a blog that tells a story about your products, gives people an insight of what they can do with your products. Get excited about the things you sell and with a blog, your content will be dynamic and fresh and you WILL See an increase in traffic if you blog well about your store and products.
If you haven't got a blog and don't mind giving away a few products, find a blogger who does product reviews for products in your market, in return just ask for an honest review (so send a good product, hehe) and a backlink to your website.
You need to be vigilant with online stores, it's not a part time job by any means and you need to have your finger on that button 24/7.
Hope some of these points are of some help to you and good luck!

Hi Tom,
I think since the start of the site being online there has always been dupe content and thin content - it's an ecommerce store -
So, manufacturer descriptions have been copied etc...
So I think we never have really experience good traffic - site has 2000 products and we only get 70 hits a day or so.
So I think we have been stuck in a penalty since the start - so checking the graph will not necessarily gleam any positive results because there has been no major traffic surges or decreases - just a plodding along
any suggestions?

Hey,
Have you checked out the Penguin Tool: http://www.barracuda-digital.co.uk/panguin-tool/
You can see which algo your website was penalised for, thus giving you an idea of what you need to work on.
Hope this shines a little light on your problem!

Free tool, and it ranks well for adult sites and checking if they are down, will that hurt us with ranking for normal sites with google?
Hi all, We rank for searches around "is youporn down" and similar because we provide a free tool to check if a website is up or down: https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/youporn I am worried that ranking for these adult searches is hurting us with ranking for things like "is reddit down", thoughts? I'd appreciate some input!

Strange strategy from a competitor. Is this "Google Friendly"?
Hi all,We have a client from a very competitive industry (car insurance) that ranks first for almost every important and relevant keyword related to car insurance.
White Hat / Black Hat SEO | | sixam
But they could always be doing a good job. A few days ago i found this: http://logo.force.com/ The competitor website is: http://www.logo.pt/ The competitor name is: Logo What I found strange is the fact that both websites are the same, except the fact that the first is in a sub-domain and have important links pointing to the original website (www.logo.pt) So my question is, is this a "google friendly" (and fair) technique? why this competitor has such good results? Thanks in advance!! I look forward to hearing from you guys0 -
Google admits it can take up to a year to refresh/recover your site after it is revoked from Penguin!
I found myself in an impossible situation where I was getting information from various people that seem to be "know it all's" but everything in my heart was telling me they were wrong when it came to the issues my site was having. I have been on a few Google Webmaster Hangouts and found many answers to questions I thought had caused my Penguin Penalty. After taking much of the advice, I submitted my Reconsideration Request for the 9th time (might have been more) and finally got the "revoke" I was waiting for on the 28th of MAY. What was frustrating was on May 22nd there was a Penguin refresh. This as far as I knew was what was needed to get your site back up in the organic SERPS. My Disavow had been submitted in February and only had a handful of links missing between this time and the time we received the revoke. We patiently waited for the next penguin refresh with the surety that we were heading in the right direction by John Mueller from Google (btw.. John is a great guy and really tries to help where he can). The next update came on October 4th and our rankings actually got worse! I spoke with John and he was a little surprised but did not go into any detail. At this point you have to start to wonder WHAT exactly is wrong with the website. Is this where I should rank? Is there a much deeper Panda issue. We were on the verge of removing almost all content from the site or even changing domains despite the fact that it was our brand name. I then created a tool that checked the dates of every last cached date of each link we had in our disavow file. The thought process was that Google had not re-crawled all the links and so they were not factored into the last refresh. This proved to be incorrect, all the links had been re-cached August and September. Nothing earlier than that, which would indicate a problem that they had not been cached in time. i spoke to many so called experts who all said the issue was that we had very few good links left, content issues etc.. Blah Blah Blah, heard it all before and been in this game since the late 90's, the site could not rank this badly unless there was an actual penalty as spam site ranked above us for most of our keywords. So just as we were about to demolish the site I asked John Mueller one more time if he could take a look at the site, this time he actually took the time to investigate, which was very kind of him. he came back to me in a Google Hangout in late December, what he said to me was both disturbing and a relief at the same time. the site STILL had a penguin penalty despite the disavow file being submitted in February over 10 months ago! And the revoke in May. I wrote this to give everyone here that has an authoritative site or just an old one, hope that not all is lots just yet if you are still waiting to recover in Google. My site is 10 years old and is one of the leaders in its industry. Sites that are only a few years old and have had unnatural link building penalties have recovered much faster in this industry which I find ridiculous as most of the time the older authoritative sites are the big trustworthy brands. This explains why Google SERPS have been so poor for the last year. The big sites take much longer to recover from penalties letting the smaller lest trustworthy sites prevail. I hope to see my site recover in the next Penguin refresh with the comfort of knowing that my site currently is still being held back by the Google Penguin Penalty refresh situation. Does Google Consider a Follow Affiliate Link into my site a paid link?
Let's say I have a link coming into my domain like this http://www.mydomain.com/l/freerol.aspx?AID=674&subid=Week+2+Freeroll&pid=120 Do you think Google recognizes this as paid link? These links are follow links. I am working on a site that has tons of these, but ranks fairly well. They did lose some ranking over the past month or so, and I am wondering if it might be related to a recent iteration of Penguin. These are very high PR inbound links and from a number of good domains, so I would not want to make a mistake and have client get affiliates to no follow if that is going to cause his rankings to drop more. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Is there a problem with google?
I have one or two competitors (in the UK) in my field who buy expired 1 - 8 year old domains on random subjects (SEO, travel, health you name it) and they are in the printing business and they stick 1 - 2 articles (unrelated to what was on there before) on these and that's it. I think they stick with PA and DA above 30 and most have 10 – 100 links so well used expired domains, hosted in the USA and most have different Ip’s although they now have that many (over 70% of their backlink profile) that some have the same ip. On further investigation none of the blogs have any contact details but it does look like they have been a little smart here and added content to the about us (similar to I use to run xxx but now do xxx) also they have one or two tabs with content on (article length) that is on the same subject they use to do and the titles are all the same content. So basically they are finding expired 1 – 10 year old domains that have only been expired (from what I can see) 6 months max and putting 1 – 2 articles on the home page in relation with print (maybe adding a third on the subject the blog use to cover), add 1 – 3 articles via tabs at the top on subjects the sites use to cover, registering the details via xbybssgcf@whoisprivacyprotect.com and that’s it. They have been ranking via this method for the last couple of years (through all the Google updates). Does Google not have any way to combat link networks other than the stupid stuff such as public link networks, it just seems that if you know what you are doing you get away, if your big enough you get away with it but the middle of the ground (mum and pop sites) get F*** over with spam pointing to there site that no spammer would dream of doing anyway?

Hi, I found that one of my competitors have zero backlings in google, zero in yahoo but about 50.000 in Bing. How is that possible?
Hi, I found that one of my competitors have zero backlings in google, zero in yahoo but about 50.000 in Bing. How is that possible? I assumed that all search engines would finde the backlinks. Besides that he ranks fair well and better than I do with only a single site and with only one article of content while I have a lot of content and sites. I do not undersdtand why he is ranking better in google, while google assumingly does not see any backlinks of the 50.000 bing is finding. Thx, Dan

Hello, I realize (with GAnaltytics and command "link:") this morning that my domain host (share one) : "mlconseil.com" under which several websites are hosted has been banned from google. Here below the websites : www.amvo.fr :

www.maliflo.asso.fr I don't kow why, i use since end of january 2011 IBP, only for some submissions to directories and for managing some lists of urls. I submitted about 30/40 directories never at the same time , but raher day after day, smoothly. On www.territoires-et-ntic.fr and www.amvo.fr which are blogs, i have installed some external rss feeds to display as articles, i decided to stop that but i don't know if it's related to such "blacklistage" from google. I don't use any nasty "blackhat" programs or else.. I'am really upset about that, i claim this morning with the same words as now, a new indexation but i don't know how long it will take ?Any idea ? Which are the tools which could help me to scan for maybe any malicious maleware on my hosting provider ? Many tks0
