Finding competitors best keywords?
-
How do I learn my competitor's best keywords? I realize I can add more keywords to my campaign but the problem is - I am not sure I am thinking of the right keywords. I don't want to compare with the keywords I am targeting - I want to know what THEY are targeting.

Great info, thanks!

There are several ways to increase your keywords.
1. keyword spy will show cometitors keywords.
2. AdWords keyword generator can scrape your competitors website.
3. You can also look at your Search Query reports to see what actucal searches triggered your keywords. I recommend doing this every month, so you can grow your campaigns.

VERY helpful! I had no idea about using the Google keyword tool. Thanks!

Thanks Moosa! I am going to try Keyword Spy.

You can use Google adwords keyword tool; just enter a competitor's url in the "website" field and choose the "keyword" tab. This will give you a list of keywords that Google suggests for the site which should give you an idea of what they are targeting.
SEMRush (a paid tool) makes it easy. It will give you the words your competitor is ranking for as well as the words they are using for paid search.
-
It will be difficult to say exactly what keywords are converting for your clients but if you need to know what keywords are ranking well for your clients then take the URL and put it in to keywordspy.com or SEMRush (paid version) and you will get the list of keywords that are working good for your client!

Why would a newly created site, have ranked ahead of our site for keyword that we are optimized for?
This newly created site has a DA of 1 and PA of 1, no backlinks, no optimized urls, the keyword they ranked better than us on was listed a total of 6 times on the homepage. Our PA is 29 and DA is 18 for the page that ranks for this keyword. They really copied a few elements of our site but made sure to change a few things, but also list at the bottom of their site 5 keywords that are crucial to our niche industry but they're all linking to the same page. Any ideas? It's an SEO guy running the site, we've watched them toy with adwords trying to be number 1, but not liking the price, so they are here and there with it. Mainly I don't see why they'd rank better for this keyword, we our site have prolly 500% more content that's both of quality and relevance to our customers, in the form of Pdfs, infographics, help sections, and video. Very baffled here, any advice would rock!

Whats the Best Tool for Bulk SERPS Checking?
To get round the 'not provided' issue I've just generated a list of the 5000+ keywords that people have used to visit my site over the last 7+ years. I want to do a one off SERPS check for all these keywords and export into excel where I'll tie it up with lots of analytics and moz based data I was going to use the queries report on analytics but my data only goes back as far as May this year, so I'll use that if I have to (and probably will anyway for the impressions and CTR) but I'd prefer to cover everything so I can see any opportunities in my very long tail

Competitor research: No data / results displaying on Keyword tools, Aexa
Hi there! I'm trying to research a few competitors using various Keyword tools (SEM Rush, Compete, Keyword Spy -- even Alexa for high level insight). While the bulk of the competitors generate expected results through these tools (a smattering of their top organic and paid search keywords, some traffic estimations through Alexa), ONE of these competitors lists "No results" across all categories and all tools: http://www.bgstar.ca Despite this, we know that they invest heavily in search -- and my SEM Rush toolbar indicates that they have a Google PR of 5 (though I recognize that that should be taken with a grain of salt). So I'm stumped! Has anyone encountered this before? Is there something structural that they might be doing, that's blocking not only Google-based platforms, but Alexa too? Thanks for your help!

Local/Geo-Targeted SEO Keywords
Hey everyone, I work for a local jeweler who only has one store and wants to rank for geo-targeted and local results. We want to rank for "jewelry Minneapolis", "Minnesota engagement rings" and terms like that, since we're not an e-tailer we don't need to rank nationally... just in the MSP metro. I've been trying to find a service that has accurate search volume information for local search. I want to see how many searches are being conducted for various terms so I know where to focus our time and effort to rank for these terms. Does such a service exist? Or something that is more geared toward a strictly local strategy such as ours? Thanks in advance for all of your assistance! Jayme

Better tactics for keyword research
I am paying for monthly Adwords Google. I am planning to build out and optimize my website content with the findings from the Adwords campaign. What is frustrating me is the Google list of keywords recommended. Is there a better tool for determining excellent, "long-tail" keywords specific to my industry, products and services? -Feeling Left Out
