Moving to new domain - Social and Branding Questions?

Hi,
We are moving to a new domain because our rankings drastically dropped and we want to "start over".
For example - If my company is called Joes Computers and the domain was JoesComputers.com and the new domain which will hold our e-commerce website will be completely different for example - BestComputers.com - which do I brand?
Which do I put as suffix in all titles?
COOL TITLE FOR PRODUCTS | Best Computers
or
COOL TITLE FOR PRODUCTS | Joes ComputersWhich name do I take for social profiles? Company or Domain?
(We currently have for the company since it was the same).Please note that our company name is already a little bit known... and therefore inside the website it will be labeled in Logos etc. We would also state "Best Computers by Joes Computers" (as if it is a sub brand or daughter company).

Ok I understand now, are you probably under attack? I'm sorry for that. But if this is a negative seo activity by an evil competitor, is it probably that he will do the same for your new domain?
By the way I think Chris tip is good, avoiding any redirect for now. You can restart your e-commerce on the new domain and simultaneously try clean your old web site with new content & gwt as you try until now (never give up).

We don't have a manual penalty (we had it revoked).
However, it does not mean that we do not have an algorithmic one.About the disavow tool - New links keep popping up. We have STOPPED working with ANY company for more than a year now. Nevertheless, we run the same tools of link discovery (majestic, OSE, ahrefs and links from the GMWT) and we keep discovering new links. It is an endless cause...
We did not plan to redirect the main pages of which links point too but rather the articles themselves, several hundred good articles. This way, the bad links won't harm us (I assume).

I have question:
The exit from a penalty needs probably at least 6 months (it depends), instead a new domain how much time needs to start ranking well? Is it not more suitable to clean the old domain and try a reconsideration request?Bad inbound links? Disavow tool probably can helps. If you are penalized the redirect 301 could be a suicide strategy, no?

Your branded traffic is typically the easiest and fastest to get restarted to your new domain. In addition to revising the domain name in all of your social profiles be sure to revise all of your local co-citations with your new website address.
It's worth going on more than just a "feeling" that your site was penalized when you're considering moving your entire domain because of it. You ought to be close to 100% sure.
Many people feel 301 redirecting will just forward the penalty to your new site.

Also, will I need to rebuild the social media channels or keep as is and just point them to the new domain?About the old domain's material...
We were thinking of redirecting (301) the deep articles and product pages while neglecting the main landing and category pages.
I fear that the penalty is due to bad links (that un-naturally targeted main landing pages).
This is why redirecting articles shouldn't have bad impact. All of our texts are high quality. -

I'd say "Joe's Computers" all the way! I think way too many companies confuse their domain name with their brand name. Sure it's nice when they are the same, but if they can't be or if you've already built up equity in another name, it's usually far better to emphasize your brand.
I wouldn't just trash the old domain, though. Move your old site over to the new domain and put a new site on the old one and make it a project to work on trying to pull it out of the penalty. If down the road, you're successful, you could move back to it.

Domain Name Change
Hello fellow Mozzers! Quick question:

We have been looking into changing our domain name into something a bit easier to read and recite. I think that we have found one, and it has a very long history. The issue is that the new domain name removes one of our keywords. Example, current domain name:
webdesignandcompany.com
We have built a lot of branding around this name. Example of domain we are considering:
BLANKdesign.com (blank is to protect the domain name we are considering) The new domain is over 20 years old, whereas ours is only around 7 years. I am wondering if we are shooting ourselves in the foot by removing the word "web" since that is a primary focus of our business. The issue is that the current domain and business name are not very catchy, and hard to say in a phone call and remember. Feels keyword heavy and generic, but it ranks well. Really well. We would be doing a 301 redirect if we decide to change it, and we have Yext and Moz to help clean up all the listings. My question is: Is it worth it to switch? Would the removal of the word web make it harder to rank number 1 or two, since people search for web design? Or since we would be leaving all the titles and meta the same, and that the domain is older than ours make that not an issue? THOUGHTS?0 -
International SEO - Domains or Folders?
Hi, We have been approached by a potential client. They are a UK company whose website is hosted on a .com domain (the .co.uk forwards to the .com). They also have a German website hosted on a .de domain. Both the .com and the .de are hosted in the UK. We believe that the .de website should be hosted in Germany. You agree? Anyway, they now need to target the US market. They are planning on duplicating the UK (.com) website and creating a US version of the site on a .us domain. They would rewrite the content for the US site to avoid duplications, and add Href Lang attributes etc. They are also debating whether the new US site should be hosted in the US or the UK. We don't think this is the best strategy. Would it not be better to host both the UK and US website on the .com domain. using reginal folders? i.e. example.com/uk, and example.com/us. Obviously we would setup Href Lang accordingly and change the Google Search Console geo targeting options for each of the sub-sites (/uk and /us). Or we could suggest hosting the UK site on the .co.uk domain, and the US on the .com domain. So, what is the best strategy to target the US audience, whilst maintaining UK rankings? The brand drop down doesn't seem to be appearing for any brands in google.com.hk. Is it something which needs to be set up and registered, or automatically rolled out by Google?

International domain query
my client is a financial services company with some ccTLDs for brand name but does not own the .com eg: brandname.ch, brandname.ro etc we need to launch a brand UK site plus a global site. should we go for another name on the .com: brandname_financial.com_, and: brandname_financial.ch_, brandname_financial.ro_ etc or could we go for instead brandname.uk.com and brandname.eu.com? i'm worried the owner of brandname.com will build a site and out rank us.....however the alternative is a longer url but owning the .com hope that makes sense and any advice would be gladly received! Considering Switch to old Domain - Any Bad Karma?
So here is the issue. I am working with a company that used to have a branded domain. Then they split the domain into two separate keyword rich domains and tried to change branding to match the keyword rich domains. This made for a really long brand name that is difficult to actually rank for as it is mostly hi traffic key terms and also created brand confusion because all of the social accounts still operate under the old brand name. We are considering a new brand initiative and going back to the original brand name as it better meets our business objectives (they still get traffic from branded searches under the old brand) and the old branded web domain. My question is if there is any added risk in going back to an old domain that has been forwarded for the past 2 years to the new domain? I know the risks and problems of a domain name change, but I am not as certain about the added complication of moving back to an old domain and essentially reversing the flow of 301's. Any thoughts? Can we publish two guest posts on one domain with same pen name but different linking website? Actually I have been doing guest posts with pen name “Jane Andrew” for “abc.com”(bit old and well performing website). Now I need to post for a new website “xyz.com” on some old domains (where I have already published my articles) so the situation is that I want domains and pen name to remain same but linking website would be different. I had few questions in my mind regarding that and I would be grateful if you help me getting the required information. Is it right from SEO, branding and marketing point of view? How Google interprets this? Is there any harm for the old well performing website or for the new one? And also both websites are owned and managed by the same owner.
