Need suggestions on what might be causing rankings drop from top5 to "not in 50"?
-
Hi All,
Below a list of 4 keywords & respective URLs which raked in top 3 to 5 till around 2 months back, now all these are "not in top 50", and I need help with finding the exact reason. Can you all please help with suggestions on what I should be looking for under the hood.
Oticon Hearing Aids:http://www.leightonshearingcare.co.uk/hearing-aids/oticon-hearing-aids.aspx
Phonak Hearing Aids:http://www.leightonshearingcare.co.uk/hearing-aids/phonak-hearing-aids.aspx
Widex Hearing Aids: http://www.leightonshearingcare.co.uk/hearing-aids/widex-hearing-aids.aspx
Resound Hearing Aids:http://www.leightonshearingcare.co.uk/hearing-aids/siemens-hearing-aids.aspx
Thanks in advance, any help will be very much appreciated, checked all the basic stuff, and appreciate that there is scope for improvement in terms of page content, internal links etc etc, but cant figure out the reason for such a massive drop in such a short while given the fact, that the these URLs ranked in top 3 to 5 for a few years till 2 months back.
Please help!!!

Penguin 2.0 rolled out on May 22 and if that is when you started having problems, and I'd guess it is, you need to look at your anchor text ratio. Penguin 2.0 hates too much keyword rich anchor text as it is clearly unnatural in most cases.
Take a look at this post for some insight. http://moz.com/community/q/penguine-2-0-confusion

The domain name www.standingnudes.com is a bit suspicious. I did a site seach for standingnudes.com I don't see any pages other than the main site.
hehe. yep a site i'm working on had that one.
That is another domain of a group of do-follow that seem to have been very popular as easy link targets 3-4 years ago. The other one I referred to in my reply was lutonengineering - the web directory?!

I'd take a close look at the link profile on OSE.
- Keyword anchor text
- Quality of linking domains - directories and dedicated link pages
There is one domain (elusively named directory) there that seems to pop up with every site i've looked at also with several problem sites reported on here. Full of dubious links.

From what I've heard of the latest update, I'd be looking closely at your link profile.
I looked at your link profile and the only thing I see at a glance is that there's comment links on hearingimpairedforum.com that may be targeted by the most recent update.
The domain name www.standingnudes.com is a bit suspicious. I did a site seach for standingnudes.com I don't see any pages other than the main site.
Maybe try removing the links to see if it helps/works, and go through each linking website to ensure they still are in good standing with Google.

you think its a penguin related slap?
if you can provide us more data about the date that this drop happened. and let us know if these are the only 4 pages that went down or if you saw the whole site getting "downgraded" in a way

Keyword use in city specific "homepages"
My company, RightFit Personal Training, is a marketplace for people to find independent personal trainers based on preference. I am currently in the process of expanding nationally, and each city essentially has it's own homepage. Currently, the url of each city page ends in the name of the city only. For example, the url for the Houston page is www.rightfitpersonaltraining.com/houston/. The issue here is that I actually wanted my contracted developer to add the state abbreviation as well as the words "personal trainers" to the end of each city page url. So what I really wanted to see out of the Houston personal training page was www.rightfitpersonaltraining.com/houston/tx/personal/trainers. Do you think it is worth it for me have my developer go back and change the URL structure of the city homepages to reflect the latter? This should also benefit the structure of the personal trainer profiles, because they could all fall under their specific city homepages. For example, I think it would be to my benefit if each trainer profile url ended in /city/state/personal/trainer/trainername. Thoughts?

Missing "Mobile Friendly" Tag in Google
Hi All, I have noticed that Google are not displaying a mobile friendly tag next to our website (www.wombatwebdesign.com). We made it responsive over a year ago and it is running on Joomla 3.X, as recommended by Google. I have run it through google checking tool and it confirms it is mobile friendly. So why no mobile friendly tag? Any ideas gratefully received. Thanks Fraser

Can name="author" register as a link?
Hi all, We're seeing a very strange result in Google Webmaster tools. In "Links to your site", there is a site which we had nothing to do with (i.e. we didn't design or build it) showing over 1600 links to our site! I've checked the site several times now, and the only reference to us is in the rel="author" tag. Clearly the agency that did their design / SEO have nicked our meta, forgetting to delete or change the author tag!! There are literally no other references to us on this site, there hasn't every been (to our knowledge, at least) and so I'm very puzzled as to why Google thinks there are 1600+ links pointing to us. The only thing I can think of is that Google will recognise name="author" content as a link... seems strange, though. Plus the content="" only contains our company name, not our URL. Can anybody shed any light on this for me? Thanks guys!

My site has a "Reported Web Forgery!" warning
When I check my bing cached page it comes up with a "Reported Web Forgery!" warning. I've looked at google web tools and no malware has been detected. I do have another site that has a very similar web address jaaronwoodcountertops.com and jaaron-wood-countertops.com. Could that be why? How do I go about letting bing and or firefox know this is not a forgery site?

What can be the cause of my inner pages ranking higher than my home page?
If you do a search for my own company name or products we sell the inner pages rank higher than the homepage and if you do a search for exact content from my home page my home page doesn't show in the results. My homepage shows when you do a site: search so not sure what is causing this.

Will training videos available on the "members only" section of a site contribute to the sites ranking?
Hello, I got asked a question recently as to whether training videos on the deeper pages of a website (that you can only access if you are a member and log in) will help with the sites ranking. On the SEOMoz software these deeper pages have been crawled as far as I can tell with errors reported on pages from the "members only" section of the site, leading me to believe the members only pages and their content will contribute to the sites overall ranking profile. I have suggested uploading the informational videos on the main pages of the site for now, making them accessible to all visitors and putting them in a more obvious place to encourage more sharing and views, however I've also said I would check it out with some experts so any information will be greatly appreciated! Many thanks 🙂 Charlotte

Bing rank drop off for multiple sites
Hi Mozzers, Seeing some wacky stuff going on on some sites I manage. In more than a few, the ranking on bing has dropped basically overnight from page one spots to not being found on the first 100 positions. Anyone else seeing similar results? Some of the sites are fairly new, some have been around for ages, some are wordpress, some are not. I've been searching for some news of a big change on bing, but keep reading about bing dropping the thin sites during black friday. In one example, I had the site set up in BWT for a while, and had a look at the data. The reports show that the pages are crawled, the index summary shows pages indexed, and there seems to be no crawl errors, but rankings are absolutely gone. Also, I can't see the sites in bing if I search "site:example.com" in bing. Here's 2 examples, the first would make sense since it's pretty thin as I havent added much content yet: http://homewindowtint.org but this one doesn't make sense to me. Sure there's a few errors, but to be dropped like a rock seems weird http://www.ahmedandsukaram.com
