Left Nav / SEO
-
We are in the middle of a redesign and would love to get rid of our left navigation. It's currently full of SEO rich categories and has been the same for 10+ years. Our programmers think removing the left navigation will have no impact on our SEO.
As SEO's, do you agree with this?
-
I find that many visitors do not use sidebar site navigation that much to reach the content they want. You may want to consider that web visitors searched for something first on Google and then probably start reading the page where the term appeared. If links for more information appear directly in the page content they are reading, they seem to like those links rather than prefer navigating the site’s content via the main menu bar or sidebar navigation. Viewers really are driven by the topic that interested them in the first place.
Use tracking analytics to determine just what your pattern may be.

You need some sort of navigation, and if you already have a top nav and the left bar is repetitive and doesn't have any real good use other than SEO...I'd say remove it.
If anything too many on-page links is not a good thing.

Is page speed important to improve SEO ranking?
I saw on a SEO Agency's site (https://burstdgtl.com/search-engine-optimization/) that page speed apparently affects Google ranking. Is this true? And if it is, how do I improve it, do I need an agency?

Newbie SEO ?: Does my About page URL have to contain the word About?
New to WordPress and SEO. Built and launched my website last week. The URL was originally domain/about. However, I installed Yoast plugin and it told me "about" was a stop word. So, without too much thought (my first problem), I changed the url (before Google crawled me) to clearwingcommunications.com/storytelling. Since then, I've noticed that sites I know are optimized have their URL with the word "about." So, is this considered a bad practice? My site HAS been crawled at this point. If I change it back to About and do a 301 redirect, does that hurt reporting? Thanks for your help! Christy

SEO before products on ecommerce site
Our company plans to quickly launch an e-commerce site to sell religion themed banners (religionbanners.com). We'll have our products up on the site in about a week. Should I block Google from accessing the site during this period? Is there anything wrong with starting simple SEO tasks such as submitting the site map on Google Search Console prior to us having the products on the site?

Is my plan the right plan? - What do you suggest/do?
When trying to rank a page high for a certain keyword, I usually go by the following plan. 1. Focus on on-Page SEO. Title tags, webpage URL, unique quality content. In other words, make the page the best you can for the user using the keyword you want to rank for. 2. Promote the page via social media. 3. Try to link build to the page. Contact high-quality sites and have them try to link to your page. I was wondering if I am missing any steps, or do you use other methods when trying to rank for a certain keyword?

Is On Page SEO Dead?
Hey Guys, Search Engine Roundtable has published a short post about this a few days ago, quoting senior member at WebmasterWorld forums who said: "The way I see it, on-page text today is for the "relevance" part of the total algorithm. The whole algorithm is, in broad strokes, "relevance + connectedness + quality". After you've clearly stated the relevance of the page, then the rest of your ranking power comes from elsewhere. I've added on-page bold tags with no effect. I've added or changed h1 elements with no effect. Not too long ago, those might well have done something, but that's not the game anymore. And moving from a table layout to a CSS-P layout today might get you nowhere, too. It all depends how deeply complicated the table layout was, I think." http://www.webmasterworld.com/google/4408395.htm Is it true? Is on-page SEO really dead? What do you think?

Can embedding videos from other sites help SEO?
I work for an eCommerce site and many of the vendors we get our products from have videos our their site that explain how the products work and the different features of them, ect. We really have done nothing with video marketing, and would like to create some of our own unique videos, but this will be impossible for the vast majority of the products on our site. We know from a content standpoint embedding videos from our vendors to our product pages will be beneficial, but at the same time it shows our competitors and other site visitors where we are getting our products from which we would rather not do. How will this effect us from an SEO standpoint though? Will it help us to have new content, even though it is embedded from another site? Or will it hurt us because it is not unique? Or will it have no effect at all? Thanks for you help!
