Google ignores Meta name="Robots"
-
Ciao from 24 degrees C wetherby UK,
On this page http://www.perspex.co.uk/products/palopaque-cladding/ this line was added to block indexing:
But it has not worked, when you google "Palopaque PVC Wall Cladding" the page appears in the SERPS.
I'm going to upload a robots txt file in a second attempt to block indexing but my question is please:
Why is it being indexed?Grazie,
David -
BJS1976 is correct. Take a look at Google's cached page and view the source:
The meta robots tag is not there, so Google hasn't re-crawled your site since this line of code was added.
-
Hi David,
When did you add the tag? Was it added after 9 Jul 2013 19:08:35 GMT ? (this is when Google cached this page last).
I would advise you not to add it to Robots.txt - This only prevents page from getting into the index, but it does not remove pages from the index.
I don't think the formatting matters - e.g, the space or no space - see this link: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.co.uk/2007/03/using-robots-meta-tag.html
I would guess that Google has not re-crawled the page since you added the tag in.
If you want to get rid of it quickly, use Google Webmaster Tools > Remove URL.

Hi David,
I was checking your source and it says:
Is it possible that missing a space in code doesn't stop Google indexing it? (I think that's causing your issue)
Here's a documentation how to implement it correctly directly from Google
Hope it helps,
Istvan
Later edit: btw: it should be something like this:

My brand name has 2 words but Google only indexing as 1 word. Is there a fix?
Hi all...I'm at a loss. I've never had this happen. Google only shows pages of my site when I search the brand name as one word. When I Google the site as one word BrandBrand- it only shows my blog page and about us page plus Twitter and Facebook on page 1. The homepage does not show up at all. When I Google the site as two words Brand Brand - My Facebook page is on page 1 but nothing else. The homepage isn't showing up at all. When I search both words on Bing and Yahoo both are indexing it as two words and shows on page 1. Any ideas?

How to explain "No Return Tags" Error from non-existing page?
In the Search Console of our Google Webmaster account we see 3 "no return tags" errors. The attached screenshot shows the detail of one of these errors. I know that annotations must be confirmed from the pages they are pointing to. If page A links to page B, page B must link back to page A, otherwise the annotations may not be interpreted correctly. However, the originating URL (/#!/public/tutorial/website/joomla) doesn't exist anymore. How could these errors still show up? Screenshot%202016-07-11%2017.36.27.png?dl=0

Rel="next"
Hi I was just wondering if there is any difference in using rel='next' rather than rel="next". Would it still work the same way? I mean using the apostrophes differently, would it matter? Thanks!

Robots.txt
I have a client who after designer added a robots.txt file has experience continual growth of urls blocked by robots,tx but now urls blocked (1700 aprox urls) has surpassed those indexed (1000). Surely that would mean all current urls are blocked (plus some extra mysterious ones). However pages still listing in Google and traffic being generated from organic search so doesnt look like this is the case apart from the rather alarming webmaster tools report any ideas whats going on here ? cheers dan

Wordpress "incoming search terms" plugin
Hello everyone! newbie to SEO and have been trying to keep everything nice and ethical but I've seen on a couple of blogs today "incoming search terms" at the bottom of the blogs, then a bullet pointed list of search terms beneath it. So I had a quick search about the use of it and noticed wordpress has a plugin that automatic ally generates these "incoming search terms". I ask is this a legitimate plugin or will this harm my blog? I assume it generally will as I can't see this being much use for the audience, rather it would be 100% for trying to lure in search engines.

Does 301 redirect pass "freshness?"
Greetings! I work for an online retailer, and we recently launched a voting tool that allows customers to voice their opinion whether or not we should carry a new item. It's been a huge success and we've been generating thousands of comments. As a result, it's helped our SEO, and our products are showing up on the first page for some keywords without having any external links pointing to these pages. Our plan is to sell a product if it does well during the voting period. Unfortunately, we're not able to process the sale on the voting page, and need to redirect users to another page on our site. I understand that a 301 redirect transfers "linkjuice" to the new destination URL. But does it also transfer "freshness?" I ask because our new landing pages will not be updated as frequently as the voting pages. Example of our Voting Page:
