Key Word Difficulty Tool - Meaning of Rankings
-
Hi All
Would anybody be able to shed light on how to interpret the key word difficulty tool ratings / rankings:
E.g. What is considered easy v hard? How long does it take to rank for a word that has a score of 60% v 40% etc?
Kind Thanks....

It is easy for us to understand that getting into the top three positions for a 45% keyword is going to be more difficult than getting there for a 28% keyword. So, at first glance this is really easy to comprehend.
That is the basic value in the keyword difficulty tool.
===========================
To understand this tool fully, you need to build a few websites that each have some content out on the web. Then you will see a piece of your content ranking for a keyword and know what it took to produce that. Now you have "experience" that you can use as a gauge. Now you have a number and it will be like holding a rock in your hand, hefting it a bit and having some idea of APPROXIMATELY what it weighs.
However, keep in mind that this scale is from 1% to 100% and it is probably not linear. A rock that gets a keyword difficulty of 58% probably weighs about ten times as much as one with a 48%.
The scale is logarithmic (or something close to that - but definitely not linear).
Now.. you asked about easy vs hard and how long it takes to rank. That depends upon the amount of resources that you have to put into the battle. If I have a powerful site, I can toss up a page and it might immediately be competitive and on the first page of the SERPs for a 45% keyword. EASY.
But you put the same content on your site, which is new and has not developed a strong track record, and it might not be visible in the first five pages of the SERPs. HARD.
The difference is that I have the resource of a strong website behind me and that makes the KW easy for me. You don't have the luxury so the same KW is hard for you.
Other differences in resources can be budget for site promotion, relationships with other webmasters, and an enthusiastic tribe of website visitors who will tweet... "Chapman nails it again! Woohoo!" That can be like throwing gasoline on a fire.
Another difference is the quality of the content. My strong site might get that first page of the SERPs for a 45% keyword with junk content. But you write something really impressive that attracts links, likes, tweets, and attention. Although you rank initially on page five of the SERPs. People who see your content share and link to it at a much faster rate than the junk article on my site... so over time your rankings will climb. My page will eventually be defeated as superior content is published on other sites.
The bottom line... SEO is a "battle of resources". Knowledge, talent, wit, verve and dedication to quality are amazing resources in the long term. But the resources of a powerful site, a huge budget, established relationships and an enthusiastic tribe give Goliath a huge and immediate advantage - even if undeserved.
So, easy vs hard is relative... but the number scale ranks keywords in their approximate order of "resources required" - which we could substitute for the word "difficulty".

The Page Optimization tool keeps asking for several changes that are already in place! How can I get it to recognize them?
Hi there...the Page Optimization tool shows a 71 score for one of my pages, but the most critical needs it noted have already been in there for some time. What's the deal with this? Thanks...

Why there is a big gap between MOZ and Google Analytics Keyword Ranking for my website?
Hello everyone, I've just started a SEO project and I'm very new in the field. Well, I tried to select the most interesting Keywords for my website. When I checked out what the current ranking for each one was, I noticed that between Google and MOZ, figures are totally different. For example, for the word "channel manager": on Google Analytics: #2 on MOZ: not in the top 50 I know that for Google Analytics, these numbers are average (12 months). But it cannot explain such a huge gap. Do you have an explanation for that? And also does that mean that I can't trust Google (really?). Because I also did some analysis with Google figures: Monthly searches, Competition... Thanks for you help! Happy Christmas, Floriane.

I'm checking keyword difficulty for two different sites. Would love to view the results by site instead of just one large list. Is that possible? Or would it just be easier to keep the lists separate in Excel and just import when I want an updated report?
I have keyword lists for two sites. Is there a way to label them in the keyword difficulty tool (List A, List B) so I can just view results for a particular site? Or do I need to run the report with List A, export results, delete those keywords, then run the report for List B?

Have there been recent changes to the On-Page Grader tool?
I use this page all the time to grade my primary and secondary keywords and for four years now have consistently managed to achieve A-C grades for all. Today however, I noticed I am flagging F grades for 50% of the keywords. I do make a note of the initial grades for all pages (as the majority of the keywords I grade using the tool are NOT added/tracked in MOZ 'campaigns'). To make sure I wasn't going mad I went back and graded some keywords I had achieved A-C grades for just 6 days ago. The changes are as follows: keyword 1 initially graded an A - 6 days later is still an A keyword 2 initially graded C and is now graded as an F keyword 3 initially graded C and now an F keyword 4 initially a C grade and now an F keyword 5 initially a B grade and has remained a B. Out of interest I then went and added one of the keywords that is now graded an F (but last week was a C) into the 'Add and manage Page Grades' section and graded once again - it's now grading this as a C. I then removed this keyword from my tracked keywords and graded again using the 'On-Page Grader' tool and ... it's back down to an 'F'. Please could you shed some light on what's going on? I don't want to track each keyword I grade over time but I do want the parameters for grading to remain the same if I use the 'On-Page Grader' tool - what's changed? I haven't received any alerts about any changes to the tool so if anyone could shed some light on any changes I would appreciate it.

Duplicate Page Title query in the PRO Campaign tool
Can someone help me on this. I am seeing duplicate page titles on the PRO Campaign Crawl tool on an ecommerce site for example MOZ is saying that these two pages have a duplicate page title: http://www.cheapsnapframes.co.uk/colour-25mm-snap-frames/25mm-green-snap-frame/a0-traffic-green-snap-frame-25mm/prod_1730.html http://www.cheapsnapframes.co.uk/snap-picture-poster-frames/colour-25mm-snap-frames/green-25mm-snap-frame/a0-traffic-green-snap-frame-25mm/prod_1730.html They are the the same product in two categories. When I view the source of both pages the this link is the same in the meta: <link rel="<a class="attribute-value">canonical</a>" href="[http://www.cheapsnapframes.co.uk/colour-25mm-snap-frames/25mm-green-snap-frame/a0-traffic-green-snap-frame-25mm/prod_1730.html](view-source:http://www.cheapsnapframes.co.uk/colour-25mm-snap-frames/25mm-green-snap-frame/a0-traffic-green-snap-frame-25mm/prod_1730.html)" /> So is there something else I need to have done to erradicate this or is it not an issue? Thanks in advance Tracy

Is there a good local competitive analysis tool for the UK
Hello Mozers I have learnt from the forum about the competitive analysis tool http://www.51blocks.com/online-marketing-tools/free-local-analysis/ and followed the link - only to find that it is for the US. I'm in the UK and need to access this for google.uk - does anyone know of a UK equivalent? Could I also check with the forum to ask the question that got me into this in the first place. It's probably a daft question. For the Ranking report in Moz, do I just need to put the local city name in front of the keyword to get the local rank. I have been doing this and assuming it's ok, and my local ranking does show up. Thanks Catherine
