Blog Bounce Rate & Placement in Site Navigation
-
Hello,
I'm attempting to perform an SEO review of the blog on www.aplossoftware.com. Aplos Software sells financial software and the blog is intended to bring in new visitors to the site with the goal of eventually converting some of them to customers. Here's my questions:
1. On aplossoftware.com site navigation, the blog (http://www.aplossoftware.com/blog/) is currently linked to in the footer in the lower-right under 'Resources'. Do you suggest we keep the site navigation link to the blog in its current location or move it some place else in the footer or in the header?
2. The bounce rate for the blog is over 81%. What is a reasonable goal for a bounce rate for a blog on a business website? What are some tactics to improve the bounce rate?
3. Do you suggest including a call to action to sign up for a free trial on the blog home page and/or individual posts?
Thanks!

If they are proud of this blog and want people to read it then it should have a link that is slappin' the visitors' face.
The bounce rate for the blog is over 81%. What is a reasonable goal for a bounce rate for a blog on a business website? What are some tactics to improve the bounce rate?
The best way to reduce the bounce rate is to give the visitor something juicy to click.
If you want people to read a second article then featuring the best posts that your visitors will want to see, in a way that visually stands out and mentally speaks to the visitor.
I would get rid of the wordcloud and change the category names to something more meaningful. For example: "Church"... I would make it "Church Accounting"..... "Payroll" would be "NonProfit Payroll". In the content manager I would change the visible title tag for this to "Church Accounting Software" and "NonProfit Payroll Accounting and Software".... Right now your title tags are simply "church" and "payroll". Add more detail to compete for better traffic.
The blog also need some visual appeal. I would change that tiny gray font to something larger, blue and clickable - put more space between the lines to make them more readable.
Do you suggest including a call to action to sign up for a free trial on the blog home page and/or individual posts?
Yes. And, a sign-up for people who want to receive an email message when a new blog post is published.
Do these guys get lots of questions about the software? If they do then "tips" might be good subject matter for the blog.
My response here is not an answer to your question. It is a starting point for a possible brain storming session with the client.

I suggest, on all of those issues, doing some A/B testing, like with visual website optimizer or similar.
Also, you may want to look at your in-page analytics in G/A to learn more about what folks are engaging with and then experiment from there.
Since there are infinite variations, getting some data through testing would be the way to go.

Should you publish Q&A on individual pages?
If you are answering common questions about your industry, should you create a separate page or place it on a existing page that is related. On one hand it may be seen as thin content on those pages. On the other hand it may be a poor user experience if someone lands on your page and has to scroll down to find the answer.

Duplicate Content Daily Rates
Our finance information site want to publish daily rates each day of the main currency / share etc prices. We've created a template with the main headers e.g. Eurozone. GBP v EUR 1.1762. Australia. GBP v AUD 1.1494.... and list top 20 currencies. We want to roll this out daily Mon - Friday. The only content that will change would be the rates on a daily basis. It's v useful info to users but we're a little cautious about it being seen as duplicate content. What advice would you give re title tags too in this new product rollout.

Site Cleanup Operation
Hi, I hope you can help, I have been asked to look at a friends site that is simply shocking, but somehow ranks for its main target keywords, mainly because they are easy. But going through the site he has like 350 links on his menus that are all follow so I need to change them to nofollow, but should anything else normally be marked such as no index etc on a menu link. Also upon doing a Moz scan there are something like 250 missing meta descriptions from old blog posts. When I looked closer they had been using the blog section for posting relevant news headlines, but thats it, So he has 250 useless, low quality blog posts. My question is, what should I really do with them, ie delete, redirect, canonical etc. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks Paul

Problem with left navigation links on an e-commerce site diluting pagerank
I'm trying to decide how to deal with left navigation links on my e-commerce website diluting the amount of link juice passed to other links on the page. Any suggestions? Only options I can think of are: Nofollow the links use javascript (I'm assuming googlebots are still able to find these) Leave them as they are as followed links

Best way to optimize site for Google Maps?
I am working with a site right now and they are ranked #1
On-Page Optimization | | WhiteHat12
for many keyword phrases based on their location and service. Their service is an
Insurance agency, so they rank #1 for many keywords like “Miami Insurance” or “South
Florida Insurance Agency” (their not actually ranked for Miami
just giving an example). I also include their address on every page of the site
(maybe that better helps Google maps?). Problem I am having is when searched
just the keyword phrase they rank number 1 but when searching say “insurance”
while being logged in to the area they rank for they do not come up. I hear that
there might be specific ways to optimize for this. What I would like to know is
what would I have to do to optimize for Google maps and what’s everything I possibly
can do. I am good with search engine optimization but have never really dabbled
much with Google Maps, I always thought they just ranked you based on your
address.0
