Google Analytics & Webmaster Tools Filtering
-
I've just set up a client who uses internationalization on Google Webmaster tools and Google Analytics. For easier management they opted to use subfolders rather than subdomains or cctlds.
So I set up a Google Analytic Property, with one Unfiltered profile, and another 3 profiles filtered per language. With the main language English being exclude anything starting
/fr/
/de/
as it resides on root. The filters seem to work fine; however after linking this to the Google Webmaster Account to be able to access
Search Engine Optimization
I do not seem to get any language filtered data. I was wondering if someone had any idea or possible solution to this problem. As I would expect to at least have theLanding Pages
if not exactly the keywords filtered by the same criteria that the rest of the data is being filtered.I know there's also an option to create a separate webmaster tools account, however this way I still cannot filter just the English; and I cannot link it to all the separate profiles.

I'd appreciate if someone with multilingual experience can jump in and give some ideas.

70 characters roughly where Google cuts off the title how many bytes for non-latin characters?
Hi So I was asked a good question by our localisation team regarding titles/descriptions and their cut off points on the google listing. I am unable to find any reference anywhere in terms of non-latin characters and the number of characters/bytes they would be before they are cut off in Google's Listing. So for latin characters it is generally around 70 for the title and 170 for the description. Now the same does not apply for Japanese, Chinese and other non-latin character languages. These generally work in the number of bytes. Does anyone have a standard rule for ensuring the title/description are not too long/short when the listing displays in the search results? Thanks

Why would a site lose rankings in U.S while maintaining rankings in other English locations (Canada & Australia)
What would cause a site to lose ranking in the U.S while maintaining top (1st page) positions in other English results countries such as Canada or Australia? Is this purely penguin related because of location of backlinks or are there other significant factors that could be in play? Would this rule out Panda as a cause because it's simply an "English language" targeted algo and not location dependent like backlinks (penguin)? Appreciate any insights

How well does Google's crawlers understand foreign websites?
I speak 5 languages and therefore have the opportunity to do on-page SEO and content writing for 5 different cultures. This question to me has much to do with the way Google translator works. It doesn't, trust me! Which then makes me wonder how the web crawlers, which are designed with English in mind, can fairly and equally attribute the same ranking points to a foreign website. Since Google seems to use sematic search technology I'm wondering if foreign sites have it easier or not. Any ideas?

What countries does Google crawl from? Is it only US or do they crawl from Europe and Asia, etc.?
Where does Google crawl the web from? Is it in the US only, or do they do it from a European base too? The reason for asking is for GeoIP redirection. For example, if a website is using GeoIP redirection to redirect all US traffic to a .com site and all EU traffic to a .co.uk site, will Google ever see the .co.uk site?

Google results inverted in a different country
Hi My site and a rival site are bothl UK based. If I search google.co.uk for a keyword I'm above him, yet if I search the australian results, he's on top. How come? I'd really like to put this right and grind his face into the dirt -- if only as revenge for repeatedly stealing my web content. Thanks
