Differences in keyword rankings in Google and Bing and Yahoo
-
Hi there,
We have some keywords that are ranked so far apart on the search engines its puzzling.
For example we have keywords ranked at say 10, 9, 7 etc on Google, not in top 50 on Bing or Yahoo. Stuff like that.
Surely the algorithms can’t be that far apart? Is this indeed normal? Does anyone have the same issues?
Thanks

Based upon watching a limited number of sites I believe that Bing is more influenced by onpage factors than Google... and Google is more influenced by links and domain authority than Bing.

Email traffic tracking in Google Analytics
Hello! I have a question about how to assure email traffic is properly tracked in GA > Acquisition > All Traffic > Channels. **First, some background... ** Our company (Wisconsin's largest group dental practice) is about to revamp the way we try to re-capture patients who don't have a future appointment set with us. Part of that process will include emails. Those emails will point back to our website to request an appointment. Now to the question... Is there anything special we should do to assure that links coming to the website and the resulting appointment request goal conversions track appropriately and appear under "Email" in the Default Channel Group of Analytics > Acquisition > All Traffic > Channels area of GA? For example, should we use Campaign URL Builder to establish UTM links? Thanks in advance for any feedback. Erik

How is Google Analytics defining page depth?
We run two websites and as part of our KPIs we are treating those who visit 3 or more pages of our website as a client served. As a digital team we are not convinced that this is the best metric to use as the improvements we are making to the sites mean that people are able to find the information quicker. Additionally other organisations including forums etc link to us so those users will get the info they need in one click. What I would like to know is how Google calculates page depth in GA. Are they treating the landing page as ground zero and then when users clicks a link they go one page deep? Or is the landing page, page depth 1 . Is page depth a measure of how many clicks a user needs to find their information?

Why do WMT's Search Analytics & GA's Real Time Keywords Differ?
I took a screen shot of the keywords from Google Analytics Real Time Keywords for Google / Organic. Then I waited a week and filtered Google Webmaster Tools' Search Analytics for queries with those keywords. None of them showed up. Why not? What I missing? Why do some keywords show up in Google Analytics RT for Google / Organic while most others are in Not Provided? I see WMT's Search Analytics says that it doesn't always show queries that "are made a very small number of times or those that contain personal or sensitive information." But most of my queries are like that. Anybody know any patterns / criteria that leads WMT to show some but not others? Thanks

Is Google doing anything about the spam referrer plague in Google Analytics?
My client manages 15+ websites and we have observed the spam referrer issue has gotten steadily worse and worse in the last few months. I took the time to weed out the worst offenders via traffic filters but our referral traffic source garden was quickly full of weeds again a few weeks later. Does anybody know what the Google Analytics development team is doing to combat the spam referrer issue? I find it quite amazing that Google goes through the asinine effort to block out organic keyword data ("not found" & "not provided) but they don't seem to care about blacklisting/filtering spam referrers. Results for wrong keyword
I've started to look at ranking and visitor behaviour within a specific product category and I've come across this strange data in GA that i'm struggling to get my head around. keyword - wishbone necklace gold landing - ...necklace-dive-in.html bounce - 99.31% new visits - 0.00% The landing page is not anywhere in the results for the given keyword (nor does the keyword appear anywhere within the page). The data is spread out to date since Dec 2011 and the landing page accounts for about 97% of the traffic for that keyword. I then looked at browser which is 95% Safari (different versions) and breaking that down into City about 30% is (not set), 30% a single city and then there is a spread of locations. It might be fair to assume that therefore 60% could be the same location but there is still 40% to take into consideration. What I can't get my head around is how the landing page is being accessed so regularly for the wrong keyword. The correctly ranking URL only accounts for 5% of the traffic which is more in line with the estimated search volumes for that keyword. I've checked versions of the page going back and none contain the keyword. Am I missing something, or any ideas how to fix?

Yahoo Site explorer: Different results for www & non-www domain. Can we merge these?
When checking our domain on yahoo site explorer, different results are shown for www.theprintspace.de and theprintspace.de. We have done a 301 redirect, as we want to optimise our www.theprintspace.de domain. However, we have a lot more backlinks for theprintspace.de. Is there any way of merging the two, so we don't loose all the linkjuice we get for theprintspace.de and use those links to optimise www.theprintspace.de? Thanks for your help!
