How to get facebook likes, for a business that no one would like?
-
Ok so a crazy title, but please hear me out.
I have a construction website. It's a small business.
It serves people one time, we get the job done right the first time, and usually never go back.
A lot of our clients are older, some who have a rotary phone still.
So for the sake of social seo, how do you get people to like a company on facebook, when its a local business who basically gets in and gets out.
I read somewhere to place ads with poll type pictures. For an example say, Like us if you like a clean bath tube. It sounds weird, but it seems to help some. It gives you a like, and they all add up.
So for a business who is trying to get likes, without buying them, how do you approach it?
Thank you
Chris

I'd look around at other Facebook pages for the same type of business. Here are a couple to get you started:
https://www.facebook.com/ulrichbarns
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Barn-Builders-Inc/111190548893280
https://www.facebook.com/artisanbarnsYou could use it as a place to showcase your recent projects, and help answer questions people may have. How does someone choose the right sized barn? What are the permits like in various areas of Colorado? What are some money-saving tips for keeping the barn warm in winter? Probably a lot of the same things you talk about on your website, but this also gives you a chance to interact with people. If you want to ask questions, I'd lean more towards things like memories of your favorite barn as a kid, what would your dream barn look like, which would you prefer -- a garage or a barn, etc.

I wouldn't worry to heavily about getting FB likes for that type of business. Do you have a strong presence in the local results for your area? I would focus my efforts on getting those many satisfied clients to leave a review for you on Google, Yelp, etc.
If you really want to grow on FB you could try a contest or special offer for future clients, both of those methods work pretty well.
Keep in mind though, you are getting FB likes to advertise and interact with potential customers. If the likes are just for the sake of numbers, it isn't worth it.
Just for the record, you can rank your website without any social signals.

Using the Onpage Grader for Local Business websites
Hey Guys, Curious how people use the onpage grader for optimizing pages for local businesses specifically, I'm interested if people use keywords with or without a geo modifier since adding a geo modifier will prevent more natural writing to increase the score. If you don't use a geo modifier do you have some general rules of the city that needs to be in the H1 and first paragraph etc. Any tips for using the page grader for local businesses would be great Thanks!

Loss of search visibility-consecutive drops in one month - something I did or competitors?
I am fairly new to Moz. I co-manage a national website with about 400 common pages and separate location areas for cities in Australia. 1 city starting their own separate website a year ago. A drop in search visibility of the whole national site and my location page started in mid July according to Moz stats.- 8%>12%>$38% consecutive drops per week. In google analytics the organic search has dropped 8% overall & 2% on my location page in last month. I did minor optimisation to the my page and articles using Moz in July - upped H2 to H1 title, tweaked main keyword, wrote slightly different SEO title and included keywords in body copy. The rankings of the target keywords went up but other keyword rankings went down. The other thing that started in June was Facebook advertising of our blog articles (click-throughs have a high bounce rate of 95%). The office with its own website (with a similar brand name) also started doing Facebook advertising and SEO for it earlier this year. I can see their own website traffic really shot up in June/July, and they also maintained their traffic on the national site. Wondering if any of these are causing the drop, or if this is more an indicator of competitor activity or alogorthms? Any ideas about causes and solutions appreciated.

Are local business directories worth the effort? Eg. White pages, Yell.com, Local.com?
Hi Guys, Im new to Moz and very keen to do SEO right without upsetting Mr. Google too much. Are local business directories worth the effort? Its a laborious job, but happy to do it, if its effective and won't be considered spammy by Google? Thanks

What more can be done to get Google to change the landing pages it uses for certain search terms?
For one of my SEO campaigns, Google is using the website's home page as the landing page for the majority of search terms being tracked. The website splits its products by region and so we want specific region pages to rank for search terms related to that region, rather than the home page. We have optimised each regional page to a reasonably high standard and we have ensured that there is a good amount of internal linking and sign-posting to those region pages, however, Google is still using the home page. The only complication is that for the first few months there were canonical tags on these pages to the home page. These were removed around 3 months ago and we've checked that the region pages are indexed properly. Is there anything we are missing? Has anyone had any success in getting Google to change its landing pages?

How do I set up 2 businesses that work together but are ran seperately with two separate websites but similar content?
How do I set up these sites so that they will not be negatively affecting their SEO efforts? I have 2 businesses with the same owner. Business A manufactures nurse call systems and Business B installs them. They are run separately with two websites. The content is very similar because the business that installs them describes the different products on their website. These are the two sites: intercallsystems.com and nursecallny.com , My thought was on nursecallny.com when you click on the nav link "Nurse Call Systems" you would be directed to the intercell website. Would this be the best method? Thank you for your help!

Doorway Pages & Service Area Business
I see many national brand franchises that offers restoration services such as water damage (Servpro, Service Master etc.) There are local websites for each franchise. Each franchise has 50+ locations that they service They currently have pages like 'water damage + city' that have about 500-700 words each Some websites have 30- 100 location pages optimized for 'water damage city' These location pages do not have a physical offices None have duplicate content (word for word) above 20% The only different between these pages is perhaps 200 words about the city Example: www.servicecompany/water-damage-los-angeles www.servicecompany/water-damage-reseda www.servicecompany/water-damage-van-nuys Are these doorway pages?

Has anyone had any success buying a local domain website, getting it on first page and then selling it to a local business? I have found some good domains that this might work for but I am wondering if anybody has tried this before.
I would like to buy a local domain like scottsdalepaintingcontractor.com and then seo it to first page before I sell it. Has anybody tried such strategy?
