What are the ranking factors for "Google News"? How can we compete?
-
We have a few sport news websites that are picked up by Google News.
Once in a blue moon, one of our articles ranks for a great keyword and shows in one of the 3 listings that Google News has in SERPS.
Any tips on how we can we optimise more of our articles to compete in these 3 positions?
-
Did Andy get the answer you needed? It sounds like everything has been taken care of but I wanted to be sure.

I had heard it was 733, and that final one is the secret!
Do you want to share an example article here, or PM me a link over? Without seeing one, I don't know what you do an don't have in there. For example something as simple as a correct / acceptable news layout, cited sources to back the article up, etc.

Hi Claudio, thanks again for your response!
Sorry, this was my first Moz question and its my bad thinking this isnt a newbie Q&A type forum. I should have been more detailed in my questioning.
Thanks for your advice, I will keep that in mind if I ask another question in the future!

Hi Andy, thanks again for your response!
To get listed in Google News, you need to be a publisher. We are publishers, I am just looking for tips on the best optimisation tactics.
You are right it is based on a number of factors, I think its 732
Do you know any of the secret ones that are not common knowledge or ones not listed on the support.google.com site?

Well, if you don't fancy trying to become a Google news publisher (it is pretty easy to do), then there is no guaranteed way to ensure that you are going to get a spot in one of the first 3 listings, or included at all.
This is going to be based on a number of factors, such as relevance to the search query, freshness of the article, how many others have written about this before you (if any) and if you are actually seen as a reputable news source.
I have only set others up to become news sources in the past, so can't offer any additional insights to this, but happy to take a peek at one of your articles to see if I can offer further help?

Hi Betnl, its really diffiicult to help you if you do not tell us how much you know about this issue. Your question was generic, without to much specification, and the answer was in this same line.
Sorry to dissapoint you with the answer
I guess that Andy and myself where just trying to give you a hint.
If your question is more precise, maybe we, or somebody that knows more than me at least, can give you some further assistance.
Invest more time in your question and probably you will find some more deep answers that go directly to the point you are looking for.
Hope you can find the answer you are looking for!
Cheers!

Thanks for your answers so far! But I was hoping to get a better answer than a support.google.com link

Hi Betnl
By any chance have you read anything about standout meta?
Read this relatively old link, now google news is getting hot, so have a look on this and then you can get deeper on the subject.
By the way, never EVER over use this feature!

Hope it works

Can Google Crawl & Index my Schema in CSR JavaScript
We currently only have one option for implementing our Schema. It is populated in the JSON which is rendered by JavaScript on the CLIENT side. I've heard tons of mixed reviews about if this will work or not. So, does anyone know for sure if this will or will not work. Also, how can I build a test to see if it does or does not work?

My website is not ranking for primary keywords in Google
I need help regarding some SEO strategy that need to be implemented to my website http://goo.gl/AiOgu1 . My website is a leading live chat product, daily it receives around 2000 unique visitors. Initially the website was impacted by manual link penalty, I cleaned up lot of backlinks, the website revoked from the penalty some where around June'14. Most of the secondary and longtail Keywords started ranking in Google, but unfortunately, it do not rank well for the primary keywords like (live chat, live chat software, helpdesk etc). Since I have done lot of onsite changes and even revamped the content but till now I dont find any improvement. I am unable to understand where I have got structed.

What time to expect until onpage change is reflected in google ranking?
Most pages on our site are crawled by google about once per week. We plan to implement a new navigation structure with much more interlinks among our pages. I would like to test it first just for a few pages to measure impact. How long may it take approximately until an onpage change related to link structure is reflected in google rankings? Any experience?

Google penalized site--307/302 redirect to new site-- Via intermediate link—New Site Ranking Gone..?
Hi, I have a site that google had placed a manual link penalty on, let’s call this our
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Robdob2013
company site. We tried and tried to get the penalty removed, and finally gave up and purchased another name. It was our understanding that we could safely use either a 302 or 307 temporary redirect in order to redirect people from our old domain to our new one.. We put this into place several months and everything seemed to be going along well. Several days ago I noticed that our root domain name had dropped for our selected keyword from position 9 to position 65. Upon looking into our GWT under “Links to Your site” , I have found many, many, many links which were pointed to our old google penalized domain name to our new root domain name each of this links had a sub heading “Via this intermediate link -> Our Old Domain Google Penalized Domain Name” In light of all of this going on, I have removed the 307/302 redirect, have brought the
old penalized site back which now consists of a basic “we’ve moved page” which is linked to our new site using a rel=’nofollow’ I am hoping that -1- Our new domain has probably not received a manual penalty and is most likely now
received some sort of algorithmic penalty, and that as these “intermediate links” will soon disappear because I’m no longer doing the 302/307 from the old sight to the new. Do you think this is the case now or that I now have a new manual penalty place on the new
domain name.. I would very much appreciate any comments and/or suggestions as to what I should or can do to get this fixed. I need to still keep the old domain name as this address has already been printed on business cards many, many years ago.. Also on a side note some of the sub pages of the new root domain are still ranking very
well, it’s only the root domain that is now racking awfully.. Thanks,0 -
"Iffy" Question
Hi Guys and Girls, I have been studying SEO for a few years now. I have learned quite a bit along the way. One thing that I have had BEAT in my head is "Create Quality Content". When I used to ask "What Should I do to get more visits?" I was told, "Create QUALITY CONTENT". That was great advice, and I have done that. I have created over 600 pages since then. I went from 200 visits per month to now just over 5,000. Even more importantly, I have increased my lead conversions. I say all of this because, about two years ago I told a competitor basically how you rise up in the search engines. He turned around and bought a domain that was 3 years older than mine and had a main keyword in the domain. He then just started building links with a bunch of blog comments and forum posts (The blog comments have like 2,000 comments on them). In other words, he did what I would NOT do yet he is #5 for this keyword and I am #9. (Although, I turned around and built another site and now I am at #13 for that and it has been up for a year now. I say all this, not to bore you but to tell ask you, DOES IT WORK IF YOU DO BLOG COMMENTING, FORUM POSTING, LINK WHEELS, ETC. Do you obtain higher rankings? Should I be doing a bit of video marketing? I know a lot of people will say, "Why would you spend your time on things that may slightly impact your rankings, but obviously it did something for this guy. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
