Directories and Search Engine Site Submissions and Technorati Tags Important?
-
I use a wordpress for out website 50campfires.com and we have a site map set up along with google analytics and web master tools. I believe wordpress automatically sends information to the search engines with changes in the site map. Do I need to submit to search engines manually once a month?
Is directories like DMOZ still relevant with SEO today?
And what are your opinions on Technorati Tags? I never heard of them before reading this article.
I m new to SEO and any insights are helpful.

Hi.
I dont have such a list. But last time I checked it was about 3 or 4 directories while additionaly adding directories that are relevant to your country, city and niche. Try , JoeAnt, Yahoo and BUsiness.com (do check PA and DA)
As for article and forum sumissions, I think it is a waste of time adn quite dangerous. As for social bookmarking, it can be helpful if done manually but dont count too much on it.
All the best.

A few years back Moz had such a list of directories. They took it down, planning to make a new version that was up-to-date and useful but as far as I know they never did (the old link still redirects to a mostly empty page). This makes me think that Moz does not see a lot of value in directories. (Though personally, I am a fan of DMOZ, for old time's sake...)

Thanks Ricardo.
Is there a list of directories that are important that I can go through?
side note: does deep link, social bookmarking, forum and article submissions hold value still? It seems like a cheap tactic.

HI,
DMOZ and similar directories do have some benefits but not as much as it did a few years back. Just make sure to review the DA with the mozbar, check Alexa ranking and other useful domain informaiton before sending your site to a web directory. Also, be sure to check out other Q&As realted to DMOZ by doing a quick search.
Also, I might add that your DMOZ applciation might sit "for review" for ages if the category you apply to is nor moderated so dont get your hopes up either if gets indexed or if it doesnt.
As for Technorati tags, there is a good blog post and subsequent discussion from Rand here: http://moz.com/blog/lord-of-yahoos-short-tail
Hope it helps
Ricardo

Is it okay to leave off H1 tags?
I know that SEO uses H1 and H2 mainly and there should only be one H1 and there can be multiple H2 tags. But the site I’m reviewing generally has no H1 on a page and multiple H2 tags. The Page Title reflects the title of the page, so maybe this is okay as is? They have the styling down just so, so I don’t want to make them change it if it’s okay.

Site appears to rank very low
Hi, A site we manage is ranking very low for it's main key phrases. The site is www.moremouse.com. For example for the phrase "orlando vacation rentals" it ranks around page 12 which seems very low considering the DA, PA, links, etc. compared to many sites ranking much much higher. Can anyone see anything obvious that is causing it to rank so low? Thanks Pete

The importance of the home page and subdirectories
I am getting myself quite confused. My home page and target for one of my main sets of keywords is actually located at: www.domain.net.au/keywords/default.aspx BUT I have loads of external links resolving to: www.domain.net.au/ I had assumed that the best practice for getting the best ranking for the keyword would be to Canoniclise the page to:www.domain.net.au/keywords/ Is that a good assumption ? Or will it only work if I can change all the inbound, external links as well ? Thanks -Mark

Checking for content duplication against content on your own site.
We are currently trying to rewrite our product descriptions and I'm afraid some of the salespeople that are writing the descriptions are plagiarizing one-another's writing. Is there a content duplication checker that will allow you to check a piece of writing against a specific site rather than all of the web?

Is it better to include the secondary keyword or site name in a title tag?
When I add a site name to my title tag with long-tailed primary and secondary keywords the title tag is longer than 70 characters. I need to include all three parts, so what should I do? At 70 characters the site name is usually partially cut off. I do not want to get penalized by Google, but I need to include the site name to have consistency. I am using the format Primary Keyword-Secondary Keyword | Site name

Importance of Micro Formats
Hi All (this is my first Q, so I hope it is a reasonable one!). Ive just started looking into Micro Formats and, so far my understanding of them is a little bit limited. So.... 1. Is there SEO benefit in using these?
On-Page Optimization | | blitzna10
2. What is an appropriate use for them? Our website has a reasonable business directory on it (which is there for SEO purposes ultimately) - so am I correct in thinking that it would be prudent to use Micro Formats for all their contact details etc? I guess Im just not 100% sure on how and when to use them.. and what the real benefit is. But, I would love to know.. 🙂 Thanks heaps!0
