Question about keywords on multiple pages
-
Hello all great to be apart of this community,
My question is:
I am trying to rank for two separate "two keyword" searches which are
"BBB boost" and "ZZZ boost"
I am planning to put "ZZZ boost" on my homepage/landing, and "BBB boost" on my second page where the end user actually purchases said product.
"ZZZ boost" - receives around 22,000 monthly searches and
"BBB boost" - around 5000 monthly searches
Because each of these share the one keyword "boost" in them, will it affect my ability to rank for even one page on the "two keyword" phrase?
Or will it cause both pages to come up in the google search results on either "two keyword" phrase because they share the same word "boost" in them? If so does that affect the ability to rank 1 page since they share the same domain name, will it divide page ranking/serp ranking?

Thanks for the question. The best answer is that it's impossible to make a specific recommendation without knowing the exact keywords in question and how they relate to your overall digital strategy. But that being said, here are some high-level things to consider.
1. Place in the sales funnel. Take an example of "SEO software." Keywords would vary based on the place of the searcher in the funnel and thereby his or her likely location on your website:
"seo software" -- informational query likely from someone at the top of the funnel who wants to learn about SEO software. This would usually be targeted on the home page
"compare seo software" -- informational middle-tail query that would be likely targeted on an interior sales page whose "content" would obviously compare all the different types of software. This would target someone in the middle of the sales funnel
"buy seo software" -- transactional query from someone at the bottom of the sales funnel. This would be targeted at a check-out or sales page2. Semantic understanding. Google is getting really, really smart. Years ago, people would have one page targeting "buy tennis shoes" and another for "buy sneakers" in an attempt to rank highly for both phrases. Today, Google (I'm sure) "knows" that both keywords refer to the same "entity." So, a single page should be created that would aim to rank for both.
If your two "boost" terms mean pretty much the same thing, then you should have one page for both. If you create more than one page in this context, you risk duplicating your content in Google's eyes.
There's a lot more I could say, but I just wanted to throw out these two considerations for now. I hope it helps!

Having the phrases on two separate pages is the way to go, one page for one phrase. With them both having the word boost it will not affect your ability to rank.

Overdynamic Pages - How to Solve it?
Hi everyone, I'm running a classified real estate ads site, where people can publish their apartment or house they want to sell, so we use multiple filters to help people find what they want. Lately we added multiple filters to the URL to make the search more precise, things like: Prices (priceAmount=###) Bedrooms (BedroomsNumber=2) Bathrooms (BathroomsNumber=3) TotalArea (totalArea=1_50) Services (Elevator, CommonAreas, security) Among other Filters so you see the picture, all this filters are on the URL so that people can share their search on multiple social media, that makes two problems for moz crawl: Overdynamic URLs Too long URLs Now what would be a good solution for this 2 problems, would a canonical to the original page before the "?" would be ok? Example:

http://urbania.pe/buscar/venta-de-propiedades?bathroomsNumber=2&services=gas&commonAreas=solarium The problem I have with this solution is that I also have a pagination parameter (page=2), and I'm using prev and next tags, if I use a such canonical will break the prev and next tag? http://urbania.pe/buscar/venta-de-propiedades?bathroomsNumber=2&services=gas&commonAreas=solarium&page=2 Also thinking if adding a noindex on pages with paramters could also be an option. Thanks a lot, I'm trying to address this issues.0 -
Mobile website question
Hi Mozzers, A website I manage has a mobile friendly version of their main website and a /m version as well. I was wondering if anyone had any experience in the best way of handling this? Should we just get rid of the /m version and tag the mobile friendly version? Thanks!

Why are only a few of our pages being indexed
Recently rebuilt a site for an auctioneers, however it has a problem in that none of the lots and auctions are being indexed by Google on the new site, only the pages like About, FAQ, home, contact. Checking WMT shows that Google has crawled all the pages, and I've done a "Fetch as Google" on them and it loads up fine, so there's no crawling issues that is standing out. I've set the "URL Parameters" to no effect too. Also built a sitemap with all the lots in, pushed to Google which then crawled them all (massive spike in Crawl rate for a couple days), and still just indexing a handful of pages. Any clues to look into would be greatly appreciated. https://www.wilkinsons-auctioneers.co.uk/auctions/

Should I deindex my pages?
I recently changed the URLs on a website to make them tidier and easier to follow. I put 301s in place to direct all the previous page names to the new ones. However, I didn't read moz's guide which says I should leave the old sitemap online for a few weeks afterwards. As I result, webmaster tools is showing duplicate page titles (which means duplicate pages) for the old versions of the pages I have renamed. Since the old versions are no longer on the sitemap, google can no longer access them to find the 301s I have put in place. Is this a problem that will fix itself over time or is there a way to quicken up the process? I could use webmaster tools to remove these old urls, but I'm not sure if this is recommended. Alternatively, I could try and recreate the old sitemap, but this would take a lot of time.

WP image pages
I used Dreamweaver for years but have recently been switching to Wordpress. On the whole the results have been very positive. However, I don't like the way that WP generates a page for images when the image is inserted into a blog post. I was just reading this http://www.eyeflow.com/content-strength-audit/ excellent article on Content Strength Audit and it referred to this problem as well. Often, when I insert an image into a blog, I delete the reference to the image page and link directly to the image. Is this an effective way to deal with the is problem? Is there a better approach? Best,

Can you 301 redirect a page to an already existing/old page ?
If you delete a page (say a sub department/category page on an ecommerce store) should you 301 redirect its url to the nearest equivalent page still on the site or just delete and forget about it ? Generally should you try and 301 redirect any old pages your deleting if you can find suitable page with similar content to redirect to. Wont G consider it weird if you say a page has moved permenantly to such and such an address if that page/address existed before ? I presume its fine since say in the scenario of consolidating departments on your store you want to redirect the department page your going to delete to the existing pages/department you are consolidating old departments products into ?

Video question
If another company hosts our videos, but they are only found embedded on our site, do we get all of the SEO benefits from the video, or would we have to host it for that to happen?
