How many links and mentioned shall I collect for a new website per month?
-
My wife made a new web site and now we are trying to promote it. But I wonder if there is any risk by having too many links and mentions in the beginning (for a brand new site).
How many links and mentions should I collect per month at the moment? Or shall I concentrate on something else?

Thanks everybody. Great help!!! I have a web site with jokes I like to promote and I guess I will just start with the opensiteexporer. I will go easy on links and focus more on the qualtity and quantity of content. I guess I will build like 2-3 new links a month.

Hi There,
I see you already got a good reply from Patrick and EGOL. JUst to make it easier for you to understand, link building is more like body building. You can use some pills to get it easily and in short time or you can go for a healthy natural way which is obviously time consuming. You know which is best.

You got a comprehensive answer from Patrick.
Adding to his comments on "writing content".... new websites are often promoted before the content is full and impressive. Your goal should be to welcome visitors with enough content and high enough quality content that they say WOW!.
Promotion is a lot of work. You want to get full value out of that, otherwise visitors land, see a small amount of content, and even if it is great stuff, their motivation to share or return is diminished.
If they are not saying WOW! then keep on the content task until you will get your full mileage.

Hi there
There really is no set number of links you should acquire or how many mentions you should have.
A good rule of thumb is to not try and spam or build links unnaturally. So, if you have listings or citations for your business, that's a good link because it's natural.
If your website suddenly shoots up in backlinks from irrelevant or off topic sites, search engines will take notice and act accordingly. Usually with a manual action.
The best piece of advice I can give - concentrate on writing content that is relevant and informative to your users, don't buy links, make sure your on-site SEO is on point, make sure you are listed on topically relevant industry citations, that your site is structured appropriately, and build relationships through hard work and providing real value.
Backlinks will find you if you engage your audience and you are providing a great experience on your website.
Hope this all helps! Good luck!

Internal Link Building and Link Juice Quality
Hi There! I manage the website for a law office that covers many geographical locations. For very specific niche content, we would prefer to create one piece of content and link to the various geographic locations where we would handle that topic instead of posting multiple variations of the same content for each specific geographical area. If we put a button on these pages that has links to each location, will that have the same "link juice" effect to the pages we're linking that linking directly in the text would? (example: the Where can we help you? button on this page : http://www.zdfirm.com/volkswagen-recall/) Thank you!

Is listing our media mentions in our News section canceling inbound link benefit?
Long-time Moz user, first question ever! When our company is mentioned in the news, we add a blurb to our In the News section on our site. If we link to the article, is that 2-way link canceling out the benefit of the inbound link from the publication? It's a two-way link, but we aren't trading links with SEO intent or doing anything malicious. Thanks, Sean

Starting a new site's link campaign... how to approach it?
Over the last few years I have been building content in my niche that I believe rivals some of the best content out there and deserves some attention. Although I have a plan to produce alot more content which I believe will take the quality and quantity of my content into a position among the top 5 or top 10 sites in my niche in the next 1-2 years, I decided that making that massive investment in content production irrespective of a consistent marketing plan is a recipe for failure because I need the positive feedback loop from site visitors to begin now, not in 2 years. Right now I'm in a position where I'm producing content that I think is better than alot of what's out there, and it's just not ranking the way I believe it should. I think I need to do a legitimate link building campaign to establish the website a little more firmly and put it on more level ground with some of its competitors. In Majestic SEO's "fresh index", most of my site's immediate competition have no more than 500 new domains in their links, though the biggest one has some 2,000. How can any link building effort I might take on possibly compare to links of this scale? Is there some "rule of thumb" for how many quality links I should aim for to get on square ground with some of the competitors on the lowest rungs? And if I try to build that many links at once, do I risk sending signals of untrustworthiness? (Assume I'm not going to be looking for any shoddy links, and in general will aim to follow Google guidelines.)

Do links to my website improve all pages?
I'm currently building links to my home page (through directories) and blog pages. However, none of these pages are actually targeted pages for main keywords. In SEO, do links to any webpage of a site contribute to the improved rank of other pages?

Newspapers are mentioning our service without links
Hi All Hope you are well. I am getting mentioned in a few newspapers online and they will put a link to our website without the anchor tag. Now I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and if so, how/did you approach the author about getting a link back? Any other suggestions on getting links from such places would be extremely valuable as well. Thanks in advance Jeff
