Link Bait - Directory Style Resources Page
-
Hello Mozzers!
Basically I want to add a beefed up "resources" page (directory style) to my site to attract in bound links.
Below is an example of a site that has a similar directory style resources area.
http://www.petfinder.com/shelters.html
I was thinking that it might be good to add a resource box in my site footer with links to these resource pages such as:
1) Dog breeder resources
2) Dog training resource
3) Dog shelters/kennels
4) Pet health resources
5) Pet care resourcesAnd funnel links to my category pages from there ..
I was looking for some feedback or any tips or the best way to go about doing this and if anyone knew of a SE friendly script or something that that I might be able to integrate with my site (x-cart / PHP) platform that would make it easy to populate / update, ect
Below is a paste of how one person I talked to envisions it:
I'd suggest building some pages of value, such as dog resources pages (rescue groups & resources, etc.), adoption resources, etc. I'd guarantee if the resources were very comprehensive and built correctly, you'd get more bang for the buck versus throwing hundreds (or even thousands) away on sub-par links.
Case:
http://www.tnj.com/black-history-makers/major-inventions-african-americans (a simple test content page to show this client we could build lifetime links with a few hours of work for a decent-sized resource page)Although very ugly, this is more of a gold mine for links taking the example above:
http://www.enchantedlearning.com/inventors/black.shtmlThis is just one simple example but I hope you get the concept versus ongoing payments for junk links. The more links you get to internal pages - even the resource guide pages - the more opportunity to link back to core product pages contextually or within the content portion of the page of side columns. The goal is to create funneled links from these resource pages back to your other pages, but doing it in a manner that's not outlandish or spammy in nature.
-
As a testament to the concept of a highly informative resource page a-la the TNJ example, I went there to see what it was like, and just read the entire page's content, it was that interesting. So that would be a good start, though the 2nd "very ugly" example is of course, more likely for long-term success. Throw in an infographic of facts related to the topic you're creating resource pages for, and then promote through social media.
The concept it's got to be highly note-worthy, unique, or uniquely grouped content.

Should I focus on building links to my homepage, or internal pages?
I'm hiring several PA's to contact site's linking to my competition. Should we try to get links to content pages (blog post, article, etc) or build links directly to my homepage? More info: My site is a web application, so most links will naturally fall on the homepage. If links to content are more important we'll need to change our strategy. We are pitching the free version of the application to universities and schools as a resource for their students.

Back link from site with DA of 72 to a website domain. Clicking on the link redirects to our website not the attended one.
Hi,
Link Building | | JIMBO16
I've ran a back link check and discovered a good back link to a site which then gets redirected back to my company's website. I have a feeling that an old SEO agency has purchased a small website which has a decent link back from a relevant organisation with a high Domain authority and then redirects the domain to our website to get the link juice. What are your thought on this? Is this really bad practise and possibly damaging? Thanks, Jim0 -
Non-profit link outreach with limited resources
Our competitive metrics are good but we need to increase our linking root domains to beat our competitors and climb a few critical positions in the SERPs. We have drawn up a link-building strategy based on Moz's very helpful guide, and begun trying outreach. We're a non-profit and the content we are pushing is blog content like this, in-depth articles like this (which, incidentally, do well in search), and we're also going to start creating more infographics and other types of content to try to generate some traction that way. However, based on the success of the campaign so far, it seems unlikely we'll acquire links at the rate we need to in order to keep up with our competitors, particularly given that we only have three people who can spend time on this (at a total of around 1.5 days per week). Clearly this is something we need to persevere with and integrate into our normal content cycle, but I can't see us picking up more than a dozen or so links a year unless something unexpectedly goes viral! It seems like link outreach is so common that it's very hard even to get link targets to engage with you on social media. People just see it as spam. It would be interesting to hear what other people have done successfully to help us figure our what a realistic approach to link building looks like.

All on-page and off-page tips are appreciated
http://www.business-baltics.com what would you change in terms of on page seo? Should all categories have a longer introduction text + an image that reflect that category? Most companies don't have any text in their profile for example: http://www.business-baltics.com/baltmar-trade-ou-503456 All content is paid (if they don't pay they don't get a chance to introduce themselves) ... how would you improve the rankings of companies like that? By the way I cannot change that, it is the company policy. Should we make a chance for people to "vote" for a company that google would have the stars next to all companies. Would that help to get more visits from Google? How should we rank better in Yandex and Baidu? (Baidu sent 1 visitor in last month). And yes we have the chinese language... Yandex is improving but we are not getting the results we want. Thank you for all your tips.

To list in paid directory or not to list in a paid directory?
Can anyone give a yes or no as to whether paid directory listings are any use from an SEO perspective or is money better spent elsewhere? Thanks!

Which is better - A) links from multiple IP addresses, or B) Links with more associated social signals?
If you had to choose: A) 100 links contained in posts on 100 PR2* blogs, all on separate IP addresses, where none of the posts had associated social signals, or B) 100 links contained in posts within a single PR2* blog (single IP address), where each of the posts had 20 associated social signals, Which would you choose to increase your SERP performance? *I chose PR2 so that PageRank would not be a factor in the decision.

Why are major directories missing from link report
Why are back links like dir.yahoo.com not listed in the link report for sites that are listed in dir.yahoo.com? For a site with 18 back links and a DA of 28, how much affect, if any, would a paid listing in a directory like yahoo have on the sites DA?

External links--Does it matter which page they go to?
I'll be doing some linkbuilding in which I will be asking manufacturers of the products we sell to link back to our site. My thought was to have a single page for our "Valued Suppliers" with a badge that I would give them the embed code for. If the URL goes to a "Valued Supplier" page on our site where there are multiple manufacturers, will this help my entire site or only the page that's being linked to? Thanks in advance!
